  • hey LUVS!🐹
    For this Wednesday’s video, I re-did horchata’s hamster tank! I took all of ur guys’ advice on her food and sand bath!
    I know the tank is not 40 gallons but I am waiting for the dollar gallon sale tanks at Petco. She seems very happy in the tank so let her be!!!🐹
    Much love,

    Leaving a little of her old bedding when you clean is a good thing. It will have her scent and make her a happy hammy! Your doing a great job! Awesome hammy mommy!

    U need to add at least 6 inches of bedding for her to properly burrow, my dwarf only started burrowing when I gave her 9 inches. Now my lucky little girl gets around 10 inches of bedding. U can get care fresh or any other bedding that could be cheaper, also I recommend adding more tunnels and toys like grape vine wood or drift wood so she can explore.
    Hope this helps xxx

      Agree with this ^^ Lots more bedding! And for hamsters it’s good to have ALMOST crowded living space. Not to crowded where she can’t walk but enough for her to hide under or behind whenever she feels the need to. Being a hamster owner is great! Glad you take suggestions and I know she’ll be happy with you and her home (:

    i rlly, rlly love how well you're handling the criticism you're receiving (that sadly isn't always constructive in some cases -.-). it's so refreshing to see someone take the advice they're given and improve instead of denying it and saying that they're right. im sure horchata appreciates it too, and she's probably already a happier hamster with how you've improved.
    before anyone comes at me: im not saying everything is perfect, just that it's a nice change of pace to see someone *finally* accepting criticism and improving themselves because of it

      Not upgrading to a 40 gallon tank isn't going to make the quality of her hamster care less quality. Not everyone can have 40 gallon tanks and it doesnt mean the hamster will not live a wonderful life without it. Maybe people need go focus on more quality advices rather than being obsessed with 40 gallon tanks just because they think they are 'perfect'.

    Shes so cute!!! I'm glad you were able to upgrade her cage so early in her life before she got too old!
    Careful with bendy bridges. Her little toes could get stick between the logs. A easy fix is to get some moss from the reptile section and just use Elmer's glue on it. Obviously wait until it dries before you give it back to her. Sorry if someone already mentioned this. I didn't see anyone saying it or what you could do is use the bendy bridge as a wall (maybe 2 of them) for a huge sand area since she's a robot but bedding will most likely end up in the sand but that's nothing a quick spot clean can't fix.
    Ps. Thank you for actually listening to the ham community. A lot of people do either ignore us (like my dad who has repeatedly said that my hamsters cages are too big) or find us too "mean"

    Hello! I love how you've been able to accommodate to Horchata's needs/requirements! One thing I would suggest that I haven't seen many people comment is to get a second hide! A hamster is fine with one hide. She can also use the bendy bridge, but I'm think more along the lines of light. The castle let's in a lot of light in the day and will disturb her sleeping patterns. She maybe be sleeping under the bedding though so that's okay! It would just provide her with more options!

    Awe I loved that you listened and upgraded! So many people get offended by criticism and your followers really seemed to be genuine and care and gave some awesome advice.
    I'm not sure if anyone suggested a platform type of hide. I found on amazon and they work great! My hamster and gerbils always bury their wheel and make it unable to spin with all the bedding. So I got these to put the wheel on top of. And the bendy bridges work AWESOME to split the enclosure...I make 1 half really deep bedding, and the other half where the toys, wheel, food and sand bath. So use like 2 for the wall and use 1 for the bridge to get over the wall cuz robos have such squat little legs haha.
    Neither of these are required but in my experience, has made life so much easier and the squeekhearts totally love it

      I love how happy she looks!!! Mine use the sand bath for a bathroom lol. It's nice for clean up but it was cute watching her use it as an actual bath.
      Other suggestions: try a small fish bowl for the sand, she wont kick the sand all over 😂
      Nothing you're doing is technically wrong, she will have such a good life as is. Just little tricks I've learned along the way.

    First of all, I Love that you upgrade your cage!!!! Your robo is so adorable 🥰
    I recommend to sprinkle the food all over in the cage, so the Hamster can search for it, it’s them natural behavior. You could also look for some wood pieces or moss on the outside, that gives your Hamster different textures and it’s for free.
    I really like the channel from „ Victoria reachel“, she speaks English and got many pets, maybe you can look at her videos.

    Dont stress over the '40 gallon' advices, you are doing a great job and your new cage is very spacious and decent. With more bedding and more enrichment in it your hammy will be very happy! And if you ever want to have a larger cage you can even if it isn't 40 gallons! There are healthy advices out there and there are also the extremes! Lots of people who suddenly get overloads of hamster care info befome easily stuck and obsessed with cage sizes and end up seeing the tree without the forest! While spacious cages are preferred, your hamster will never be sad if the cage is less than 40 gallons!

    I'm so happy to see your cute horchate getting upgraded! You have a nice wheel and you definitely feed horchata well, i noticed your scatter feed as well 👍👍
    Friendly suggestion
    Since her space isn't as big as you want it for now i recommend even more bedding. Trust me the more the better. I give my hamster about 10 inches of bedding. If you're worry for the wheel you can cut a cardboard into a rectangular shape and make it like i tiny stand. Place it on top pf yhe bedding and then the wheel on top it will keep it steady. Or you can place a large amount only one one section of the cage.
    You can also place more of you home made tunnels on top of the bedding so that there isnt so much open space for your hammy.

    The cage looks great! And I am so glad that you got her a bigger cage and took advice! You do need to add some more bedding though, around 6" like all the other comments, my dwarf wouldn't burrow until I gave her around 8" of bedding. You can also get cheaper bedding, such as Kaytee clean and cosy or care fresh. Also add some more toys, tunnels, and logs for her to explore. Like Little Ham ham said, hamsters need all kinds of toys, and logs, and wood to explore.
    But it looks great so far!

    @potassium1018 3 года назад +1

    I’m glad to see improvements in hamster care! I still would like to make a couple of suggestions though! I would add more bedding (6 inches is the minimum for hamsters) that way she can make even more complex burrows. I don’t know how big the cage you have right now is, but when you get your new one make sure it is 450 square inches (that is the bare minimum in the US). Also mixing in Mazuri rat blocks into your Higgen’s sunburst would be great. Personally, for Robo’s I would recommend a 8-9 inch wheel (Wodent wheel or Silent runner would be great for that). If you want to know more, I would extremely recommend watching Victoria Racheal. She is an amazing RUclipsr and would probably help you a lot!

    AAAA THIS CAGE SETUP IS ADORABLE!! I bet she is very happy with all the new big space to play in. you mentioned how you were curious if you should be mixing anything in with her current hamster food and you could mix in some dried mealworms! It sounds very nasty, but all my robo hamsters were big fans of them and it provides good protein. just giving her a few each week with her current food is perfect!

  • @spacecheetah-xg9cl
    @spacecheetah-xg9cl 3 года назад +1

    That’s amazing how you took the criticism and improved! I would recommend putting a bigger sand bath as well, because a roborovski hamster is naturally from a very sandy climate. Also, maybe get another food to give her as well as the sunburst, because the protein is quite low in the sunburst foods. Maybe mealworms, dried are fine. She is very cute, and she looks fine, but maybe take her to a checkup at the exotic vet, since she was using that dust. It’s great how she’s burrowing! I think 6 inches is the best though, so she can have big, deep tunnels.
    Edit: maybe a hideout into the sand bath would be better as well, so she can bathe in privacy :>

    I saw that your tank is 20 gallons which is way too small! If you want a tank 40 gallons and higher is the way to go. If your on a budget bin cages are super cheap they can range from $15-$30 depending on where you get them. don't forget to add at least 6 inches of bedding and of course, add lots more hideouts and tunnels in the future! Make sure her wheel is at least 6.5 inches since she's very small. Overall great job! Your hamster is so cuteeee!

    it looks so cute!! love the gel clings on the back! I've seen some people turn the little wooden bridges sideways to make like a barrier to have one side of the tank have deeper bedding for a burrow area :) The pink theme is the cutest I love doing pink themes in my guinea pig cage!

  • @ileanamarie7177
    @ileanamarie7177 3 года назад

    Yes yes yes!!! I’m so glad you made improvements!!!
    I also use the same sand and food. You can add some more protein to her diet it’s called the Mazuri rat and mouse diet and you can add like 2 or 3 pellets. A bigger sand bath would also be good, maybe double the size of what you have.
    Since you noticed that she loved burrowing, it’s good if you put about 6-8 inches of bedding on one side of the cage and put everything else flat on the other side with a good amount of bedding as well. I wouldn’t recommend only giving her carrots,it’s good to give her a variety such as cucumbers, spinach and even trying apples (no seeds), but I wouldn’t give her iceberg lettuce, it has way too much water and can make her have loose stools.
    But overall, good job! I would still recommend doing more research, And if you want to give her more space but at a cheaper rate, Target has a storage container that’s 116 qts and it’s above the 450 sq in floor space and is only $16-18 bucks. And if you can’t make the lid for whatever reason, I recommend getting the aquarium tank lids and make sure it is big enough for the cage. I personally have the 116 qt bin and i bought a lid for $26 on Amazon and while I could’ve made the lid, I don’t have the tools so I went with an alternative choice which is still safe for my hammy ❤️

    I think horchata is absolutely adorable! I have a Chinese dwarf hamster myself and have been wanting to get a robo as well (will keep them separate of course). But just wanted to give a friendly reminder that robos are from very sandy areas so they do require a large sandy area in their enclosure. From what I’ve read and learned about robos I believe at least 1/4 of their enclosure needs to be sand❤️

    I love ur channel and Hotacha (u r taking care of her really well considering u don't have too much space and stuff. Ur set up is decent I mean it's a tad small but at least its not a crittertrail or a tinytails cage if ur gonna upgrade it in the future maybe to a 30 or 40 gallon then this is fine) I like that youu changed her sand bath and got rid of the oxbro stuff and the ball but maybe you should give her like 1/4 of her cage sand because robos need a lot of sand, u can also add a hideout in the sand so that she can bathe with privacy. I really love how you deal with hate, it shows that you obviously love Hotacha so much, I also noticed that she is kinda having trouble keeping up with her wheel and she may be falling off so I would recommend a Wodent Wheel.Hamsters like lots of hides so maybe you can add some toilet rolls or diy cardboard hides. If you want then you can use a water dish instead of a bottle bc she is fairly small and her bottle nozzle looks quite big for her, even tho she can burrow she may still need another inch or 2 bc she needs 5-6 inches other than all that ur cage is amazing I know that's kinda a lot but since they only live 2 yrs then you definitely want to give her the best life possible 🐹😊😊 she's adorable

    One small tip: Your hamster needs at least 6 inches of bedding, and her sand bath needs to be bigger so you can easily do that by laying the sand down on the ground and removing the bedding from that area. Great wheel choice btw!

    I would also recommend oxbow rat and mouse lab blocks (the big chunky block food) and give her 1 or two blocks a day with her seed mix to make sure selective feeding doesn’t make her starve to death. It is marketed towards rats and mice but it has everything hamsters need. Also, get her a protein. She can have mealworms, boiled egg, and boiled chicken just to name a few. Also add a fruit/veggie. Bell pepper is a great veggie for them. Just google the fruit/veggie before giving it to her to make sure she can have it. And make sure to give her a portion the size of her ear each day (you can keep the left overs in an airtight Tupperware bowl so it doesn’t go to waste. I also recommend making her cage more “cluttered” because it makes them feel safer. Such as more hides, tunnels, etc. Also just monitor the plastic house and water bottle to make sure she’s not chewing on it and ingesting plastic.

    You did a great upgrade with you enclosure! Love you hamster btw she is so cute! Your enclosure is still to small tho, but im glad you know that. To keep your hamster occupied for now definitely look into providing more bedding. You can also see if you can get a bigger sand bath because robos are originated where there is more sand. Besides that your enclosure is looking great!

    Hi! I am glad that you updated your hamster cage. Some things that I would just like to add is that hamsters need at least 6 inches of bedding so that they can burrow easier. Also, maybe it you could add some tunnels and some more things. There is this pet RUclipsr named Victoria Rachel and she has a lot of videos on this type of stuff.

    you should try feeding her mealworms! they can be find in the reptile section of a store and they add a little more variety to her diet
    i also suggest scatter feeding, you do this by sprinkling her food around the tank and she goes to gather it! this mimics the outdoors and foraging for food you can always keep food in the bowl but my hammie always prefers to gather his own so i ended up taking out the bowl
    i hope this helps!

    For more protein you can add mazuri rat and mouse food there like little block things and that what is widely recommended btw I’m soo happy about her cage it’s so cute and has enough space for her!! It’s also recommended to put at least 6 inch of bedding so they can burrow properly but you can do whatever you think is best for your hamster.

    I think it is great how you reacted to all the people who criticized your hamster care, i like the setup of the cage and all the toys and chews you added. i would recommend mixing in mealworms or chicken cat treats to the food for added protein, other than that i think it looks great and just so you know bin cages are great on a budget and also you can get pretty much the exact size you want so i highly reccomend!!

    @conaway1684 3 года назад

    i know i’m late, but you should get mazuri rat and mouse blocks to mix with the higgins sunburst! it gives more protein, because the higgins sunburst doesn’t have enough protein itself.

  • @haleymalcom9022
    @haleymalcom9022 3 года назад

    so they need at least a 40 gallon but if you have room for more, more is always better! :) but i know you already said you were planning on upgrading so that’s great! i would recommend a bigger sand bath! robos require more sand than other hamsters because they are actually are from the desert. also they do need mazuri rat blocks mixed with their seed mix for their protein because the seed mix alone doesn’t have enough. i always just make sure there’s always some in her bowl with her mix (maybe 2 small blocks? that’s what i do with my robo). i would fill one side of the cage with bedding high with her hide so she has a lot of room for burrowing and the other side low with her wheel and stuff! 😊 i also feed all my hamsters veggies every night but it’s not required, they just really enjoy it! i give my robo a little piece of romaine and broccoli (just look online to double check if it’s safe for other veggies you want to feed!) also great low sugar treats are gerber puffs! (make sure the flavor doesn’t have cinnamon/spices like the cinnamon apple one isn’t safe) my hams love them and it’s great for taming and just to have.

    The oxbow food is perfectly fine if you mix it with another kind of food- the sunburst stuff has ingredients that can harm the hamsters.. also Ik this was 3 years ago and you probably don't have a hamster but it needs at least 6 inches of bedding to be able to burrow

  • @shadokat

    What is standing out the most is how much you love your sweet little hamster. You did make a lot of mistakes in your first hamster video and it's nice to see you owning them and becoming a better hamster owner. Robos are such cute and delicate little things. My last Robo had been housed with another hamster by an irresponsible owner who had allowed them to fight. My little girl had a huge scar on her face and an eye missing. I named her Braveheart. You're doing a great job with Horchata. I'm sure you've already found out how fast she can move and how quickly she can jump out of your hands. I saw you moving her with a small cup when changing cages. Excellent job! The only thing I can add is that she does need a bit more bedding for burrowing. You can get a bigger bendy bridge and divide the tank with it, putting deep bedding on one side and lower bedding on the other. That gives her room to burrow on one side and the wheel and accessories fit on the other. If anyone is still giving you mean comments, please don't take them to heart. We all make mistakes at first and we learn from them. You love Horchata and you are a good hamster mom. I hope you'll continue to show us your journey with her.

    Hi! I love how you listened to comments! When PetSmart does have their dollar per gallon sale, make sure you get at least a 40 gallon tank! In the video you said to let you know about the bedding height. The bedding is still too low to burrow in, I would use at least 6 inches. I have 3 hamsters (In separate cages) and I know how pricy bedding is. To avoid that you could pile the bedding on one side and maybe divide the less-deep part with cardboard (just a suggestion!) You could also make your own bedding if you have enough time. Your hamster is absolutely adorable, and she looks very happy!
