The pool scene from zoom academy for superheroes got me addicted to that scene when I saw this trailer on monster house DVD cause at 1:50 is my favorite scene I played it back and forth even pause it for 70 minutes also just imagine tucker wearing tiny speedos while jumping into the pool

I honestly never realized that the kids they picked were all white, while they rejected the ones of race until you said something. Also I think it would've been cool, if they actually made the backstories of the kids. Like how did they get their powers? Were they born with it or did they somehow get them from an alien or did someone in their family have the powers and it got passed down to the kids. Do they like having their powers? Do they want to be normal? Or stay the way they are? and what did everyone's parents say about their kids going to go live in a secret place? Or did they just burst into the kids house and kidnap them?
I actually raised an eyebrow because the way it's portrayed doesn't make it look accidental and doesn't seem subtle at all. Like I wouldn't of cared so much if the way it was shown with the rejected kids being of color while also being paired with utterly useless and gross powers didn't feel deliberate.
I'd almost call it subliminal racism to a point but I don't want to rewatch this movie to find out if other rejected kids were white or not.

this feels like they got the order of the scenes REALLY wrong, one moment he is warmed up to the kids, next scene he hates them then all of a sudden he gets reason to warm up to them
The reason for that most likely is in editing they put it together in the wrong order and no one bothered to check it before release...or lazy story telling...or both

Because we all know Barry Allen is too good for this movie. But we did get Kate Mara, who played Ms. Fantastic from Fant4stic, in 2015. Man, she really likes being in terrible superhero movies, doesn't she? She doesn't seem talentless. Just not too good at choosing to be in good superhero movies.

But I did grow up on superhero cartoons like the Batman cartoons, the original one, and the one with Batman's successor, Terry McGuinness, and stuff like the Spider-Man cartoon, and the Justice League cartoon too. And the X-Men cartoon and its sequel, X-Men: Evolution. So I just enjoyed any superhero movie or cartoon at the time. Including Zoom. Years later, I realized while it was harmless fun at the time, it's not a very good superhero movie to look back on or one that ages well. But just because it has a star studded cast, doesn't mean it's automatically good. If you enjoyed it back then, cool. So did I. I was obsessed with it. I was obsessed with anime/manga, video games, and superhero cartoons/movies. Still am to some point, but I forgot this movie existed for the longest time. Like it was there one minute, and then, like a flash, gone the next. Like someone neuralized it out of my head. But as soon as I saw this thumbnail, for this review, I almost immediately recognized it, and sort of wished I hadn't. Because it just doesn't hold up as a teenager or adult. Maybe as a little boy it's alright, but as a teenager or adult, there's not really much too it. It's ok as a movie if you haven't seen any superhero movies or shows before, but if you have, then this movie just doesn't really have anything memorable or meaningful in it. It's just forgettable. Even the 2 Fantastic Four movies that came out around the time of this movie hold up slightly better. And they were boring too. But if you enjoyed this when you were 10, that's cool. Good to know. Sorry if this went on too long though.

I have a theory about the making of this film and why it feels so choppy and lacking in backstory or any kind of understanding of why we should care about the story/characters. I believe that this story was initially going to be a tv show of some kind, with a full season of episodes spreading out the events and plot to help develop each person and give better pacing and direction for the characters and overall story. However, either because they literally couldn't think of enough material for a full-fledged tv show, or because they couldn't get a licensing deal with Smash Mouth for long enough to have them for the full show, they shrunk it down to a feature film length story.
*Zoom: The movie where we try to make Tim Allen into Robert Downey Jr. but we fail miserably*
Tim Allen and RDJ where actually in a movie together. They were in the remake of The Shaggy Dog. It was the low point of RDJ’s career before Iron Man. EDIT: Spencer Breslin aka fat kid, was also in The Shaggy Dog.
RDJ wasn't even RDJ in in 2006 when Zoom came out. Iron Man was still a couple years away and he was still rebuilding his credibility and trying to convince folks it was safe to cast him in stuff again.
Also I feel like the low point of his career was when his drug problems got him fired from Ally McBeel

Movies are typically filmed out of sequence and then pieced together in editing to make it more cohesive, but this movie feels like they put everything together in the order that they shot it.

What would have been cool is if each kid correlated to one of the original group members forcing him to face his past while also giving him a starter point to connect with each kid.
Conspiracy theory: they shot two different movies and accidentally added them together having every other scene from the opposite script.
To me it seemed the scenes were out of order, especially with the UFO and robot
I have a theory of my own: the film was supposed to be longer and actually explain everything, but half the footage (which happened to be all the scenes explaining everything) got corrupted/lost, and they basically said "Screw it" and put all the useable footage out of order.
It was originally more of an adult superhero movie that was changed to be more of a Disney channel style film, hence the sudden shifts in tone.

I'll try to tell the whole story from memory: there is this guy who is very fast and his brother kinda died so he retired from being a super hero.
The military found a super strong little girl, choji from naruto and a teenage guy and a girl whose powers I cant remember, and took them to an area 51 kind of place.
Zoom trains them and then runs and falls to the ground, then his brother shows up and is evil and very strong so they fight and then zoom says I love you or some shit like that and then he is good again.

I mean, I wouldn't mind a dark and gritty prequel to this movie. The concept of a bunch of teenagers being taken by the military, being trained as an special ops team and then radiated so much that one of them went full psycho and killed the rest of the team but his brother is actually quite cool. Besides, as we saw, Zoom had a mental blockage on his powers, not a physical one, just imagine this dude running so fricking fast that he tears every single muscle in his body to attempt and open a portal to banish his brother and his body being so broken after the ordeal that he genuinely thinks he is unable to run again.

This movie was my SHIT as a kid. Back when me and my dad would rent a movie, maybe even a game, and buy a bucket of microwaveable popcorn. Finally after it was done we'd decide if we wanted to burn the movie onto a CD (yes we burned zoom). Good times, but I'm sure id shit on the movie if I watched it now
You know what, I first saw this movie during a pizza party at my preschool back in like 2008! THEY had a burned copy of Zoom, and the moment I heard the title of the movie, I was excited to see it... until the movie showed off all these disgusting moments (the part where Summer telekinetically made rancid bolognese erupt all over the cheerleaders after they bully her, and the part in the auditions where on kid blows a huge snot bubble, which explodes all over Dr. Grant).
About 80% of my childhood movies were burned DVD copies xD And yes, this was one of them

I couldn't think of the name but I remember one of the worst hero movies I saw as a kid was about a dude whose whole hero thing was about super farting lmao 😂 I didn't like the way they talked funny. Now I know why lol. At least with zoom it had a cute girl so that immediately made me like it some. But then again the only reason I watched thunder pants was because it was about farts and I grew up thinking farts were funny. Now at 20 years old I no longer think farts are funny but I like dick jokes and sex jokes in general. (Shout-out to hodgetwins)

Like, Tim Allen’s character could actually be good. His whole story could be like “I hate superheroes cuz I wasn’t the one who was able to save my brother from the dark side and now I just say I was never a superhero” this would also tie in the reason why they don’t tell him what the anomaly is because he would be distraught to know his brother is coming back
I think the green dress lady was supposed to be put in a dangerous situation so Jack could get his powers back in a heated moment to save the girl (Zooming over to save her from the car)
At least, that's the only thing that makes sense. Mind you, the execution is awful and you wouldn't know it by watching the movie, but it's my best guess
I assumed he lied about losing his powers and thats what they were trying to prove

Trying to make this movie a little better; prologue:
So, for this, we have to imagine a few things.
1- Zoom is inexperienced and can't properly use his power to the max.
2- concussion is an unstable and somewhat violent guy, and only stays as a hero 'cause of zoom's friendship.
So, let us start.
They've been a super hero team for a while now, everything is looking good and they're helping people, but one day, in one mission, an accident happens and one member of the team dies. After that, they promise each other that they won't let it happen again, seeing the treatment with the "gamma 13" as a way to keep the promise. All the team accepts the treatment, but one, Connor. He was still grieving his friend and didn't want the strange substance in his body. But that Didn't matter. They made him take it anyway, and as a combined result of his previous instability, his mourning, and the effect of the "gamma 13" he turns crazy and attacks his team, finishing them. Seeing the massacre, zoom is forced to act, pushing his power to his limit and beyond, being able to transport Connor to a kind of "ghost zone". After that, zoom's body can't take the exhaustion along with the trauma of "killing" his brother, and shuts down the ability of using his power, as a protective measure to prevent him from getting hurt like that again.
First team zenith ends, and the project is shut down as well.
Years later, and now, zoom, a man haunted by his past is now a car mechanic, hoping to do with the cars what he couldn't do with himself, fix them.
