Good helpful video, just completed the job this morning and found it a lot easier removing the 2 studs top and bottom right hand side (on the EGR valve)with the 5mm hex’s on the end rather than cutting the end off. For refitting ,the bottom left side stud is a pain because of the steel water pipe directly in front of it. What I did to make it very easy is cut a 8mm slot on the bottom of the bracket of the cooler and this allows the whole unit to slot into place very easily . You can also put the nut on beforehand a couple of threads. Hope this helps 😊
Hi fella. I have just done this very job on my farthers VW T5.1 2010 Transporter for the second time it was much fun. The EGR cooler you first showed is the one I used and it fits on the back of the engine up high. Your job looks like even more fun. My advice to anyone with a T5 Transporter is to just by the EGR cooler every third service as they are very clogged up by then.
Nice video. The T5's were a bit of a pain to do but this looks much more fun. I've heard those flexible metal pipes can crack and leak so probably best changing them at the same time as well. I came here via Sandy's channel 👍😁.
Good advice 🙏 I’m delighted to have you along for some entertainment 😬 Sandy is one of the good guys. Nice & humble but by god he gets through some stuff, fair play to him 💪, hopefully I won’t let you down on my content 🙏👍
Correct Kevin, quite a fiddly job. With lots of little bits that can break very easily. My second one might be a bit easier to diagnose & fit 🤞 Thanks Kevin 😉
I replaced a faulty EGR valve on one recently, I didn't replace the cooler though, if I had known the coolers are prone to leaking, I'd have changed that too. Bleeding it after was a bit of a pain too. Cheers mate
They are awful yokes to get rid of all the air, I find a 15 minute drive generally sorts them. Whether that is enough time for the intercooler pump to work or what 🤷🏼♂️ Cheers Matt 😉
Brilliant Olly, I’m delighted it helped & isn’t it fantastic to get to see these jobs being done before you have to tackle it yourself. I do this all the time just to stream line the job when at it myself. Thank you 🙏 🙏👏👏
Think I'd have a go at that. Like you say tell customer it's a slow burn and just tick over working slowly through it. Lots of top tips with things like that connecting pipe. Nightmare if that leaked after fitting it all back up
Vw transporter vw golf vw passat vw polo. I think who ever designed these car where trying to hide the egr value fecking disgraceful. One thing about you Peter that was a really hard job and you never complane once you just get on with it fair play to you
Oh Wackey I did complain just the camera wasn’t recording when it was happening 😂😂😂 Only joking it’s all part of the job, like Nike would say ‘ just do it ‘ 😬 Cheers Wackey 👍
Good video, but my god what a poor design for an item that will fail at some point. Did one last wk on a Renault, 10 min job right on top of the engine.
My T6 is also losing coolant, checked by mechanic, no signs of leakage, he is saying that it's engine head cracked or something along those lines, of course he is not 100% sure but wouldn't the engine overheat or something similiar, I have been driving the van for months like this, just topping it up with water whenever it gets too low. Thoughts?
I really did think I’d have it done in around 3 hrs. But yes it was a bit of a pain in the a3s to do. And suppose it could have done damage if it ingested much of that water 🤔
Hi Christian, it takes around 4 hours to replace the egr & cooler unit. It can be a little fiddly but overall not too bad. Good luck with the job if you are doing it 🤞👍👍

Wow Stephen that sounds like a great idea. Well done mate & that you for sharing that information 👏👏👏

Hi Karl, that is very good advice. No a nice job to do but well worth doing as preventative maintenance 🙏🙏👍
Good bit in it, how many hrs did it take you? As I’ll have to double that 🤣
Thanks for the video, some handy tips, I've got to do this on mine shortly, so it's good to know what I've got ahead of me 👍
It can be a little bit tight but not too bad, good luck with it 🤞🤞

Great information and plenty of tips. You can’t rush a job like that if you tried to rush it you’d be doing it twice.

Great content thanks Peter.Tuning in from Australia🇦🇺👍🏻
You must be missing the old Irish accent 😬
Plenty of that with me Rob, stay safe over there my friend 😉👍

wow! peter supper video, thanks mate. got one to do on a DSG so this helped a load.

It isn’t too bad Chris, just slow with the stupid amount of water pipes & fuel pipes etc.
you’d muscle through it no bother 😉👍

Excellent. Thanks

very help full
I’m glad it helped 🙏🙏🙏👍

I have never done one on a modern Renault but it does sound a lot easier 😬😬👍

It is just the Egr cooler that is most likely leaking, it is a really common problem on these. The dealer keep them in stock which is a bad sign 😉👍👍👍
looks a right pain. i haven't had one that looks like that
I really did think I’d have it done in around 3 hrs. But yes it was a bit of a pain in the a3s to do. And suppose it could have done damage if it ingested much of that water 🤔
Nic video sir 👍👍
You from sir
I had a coolant leak on my T6 as well, the dealership said it was the egr valve, maybe they meant the cooler, same as yours?
I would say you are correct and they meant to say egr cooler, unless it comes as 1 complete unit 🤔🤔🤔
Great job!! How long did the total work take? Best regards 👍
Hi Christian, it takes around 4 hours to replace the egr & cooler unit. It can be a little fiddly but overall not too bad. Good luck with the job if you are doing it 🤞👍👍
Hello! What do you think, if you remove the egr and cooler, do you need to loop the antifreeze tube, or can you just drown it out?
If you are just changing out the egr/cooler? Draining the system is probably best.
Cheers Porsche wod😉👍
How many hours is this job booked at?
I can’t actually remember but my gut says around 5 hours in total 😉👍👍👍
