  • Deane talks about the design and building the hempcrete house. Their journey has led them to France to source good quality hempcrete and yes it is actually sustainable as it is still hard to source in Australia. They have used everything else local and recycled so hear about the build and see the lovely lines of this hempcrete build near Muckleford.

We have an agreement with our European counterpart and import hemp and binder when there is interest.

It's a combination of Selectronics, Fronius and Jinko Panels, and PowerfPlus batteries. It runs very well and more than meets our needs.

Did I hear you mention the wall only has an r value of 7.5 ?

Hi Steve it is purported to have high r values but it’s a bit hard to believe isn’t it !

@@lizmartin5557 The more lime the more mass. The more mass the lower the r value.

Sorry for the v late reply. Just saw it now!!! We believe that it is much higher and the performance suggests this is true, however the R rating system is limited and not designed for these wonderful materials. It is an imperfect rating system as you get discounted for area of glass, no curtains etc. We simply do not need them. We use almost no electricity in the house other than fridge. We also have a 'roman type' earth tube for moderating temperature extremes by using the earth's thermal mass at 1.5 to 2m. Loving the house.
