What on Earth were they thinking even having this in Elvis’ concerts past 72’? Clearly he was bored of singing the same old basic 50s medleys he’d been signing for 2 decades straight. Elvis didn’t want to disappoint his fans by not giving these songs, though I can’t say I blame him for singing it like this

It was similar with "Hound Dog"

He very rarely took out his classic medleys. I’ve only listened to a handful that haven’t got the main ones in.

Jailhouse Rock was rarely performed until 1976 and was only a mainstay in the setlist from October ‘76 onwards

i was at this concert. he was definitely under the influence. guess what, not a single person in that sold out concert hall cared other than the critics. he was having fun. we were having fun. he enjoyed it. we enjoyed it. so it wasn't prime for recording and releasing, didn't/doesn't matter. he gave us what we came for, himself having a good time. find fault in that, i dare ya.

@rockzhard2009 don't get me wrong, I'd kill to be able to go back in time to see ANY Elvis show. Before my time unfortunately, was just saying this one wasn't on par with what he was capable of earlier.

So frustrating to hear the greatest singer be so bored with his songs. After Aloha, he could have benched them oldies . Fast just to get it over with. He had lost interest in himself.

@waynedoyle5584 I wish he didn't feel he had to do the same songs over and over again. He had so many great songs that would have been even better as his voice got richer and more powerful. He was a man that needed challenges. Still unequaled talent to this day.

you are sooo right .....but ....fame talked over challenge....quick story ...ronnie tutt his drummer agreed with us and when asked when things became bad from a music point of view he stated that i think the 3 or 2nd to last vegas season we opened with new songs and it was GREAT and the crowd loved it too ... but after the show ....when he went to vist elvis to celebrate this new way of doing things ....elvis head was down and and said " yeah it was good but they didn,t respond like when we did the hits so let,s stick to that tomorrow night " ....ronnie heart was broken because he knew it was not going to get better but worse ...and you know what sadly happened soon afterwards....thank you for reply , i just wish elvis took yours and ronnie advice @@BjManberries

My understanding is that Dr Nick did not come along for this tour like he normally would. Possibly money reasons but I can't remember. Dr Nick would control (well, some control at least) and balance out the cocktail of pills Elvis was on throughout a tour. This perfomance here is the result of his absence. After this gig they went straight to Dr Nick and begged him to come back on board. It is easily the worst concert he ever did (that I've heard anyway) and it's so depressing it may actually be even more depressing than seeing Elvis singing Old Macdonald or that song to a bull called Dominic. Fast forward to December 1976 and he puts on some of the best gigs he's put on in years.

@@canalcksofficial1745 I’ve heard people wonder why he didn’t just load up on uppers for these shows. Unfortunately, people severely addicted to Barbituates, tranquilizers and painkillers need the drugs in their system to function at all. So Elvis had no choice but to take those drugs. I’m sure he was on uppers as well, but when you take uppers and downers together you’re basically a wide awake drunk. You’re walking and talking, just not very well, as evidenced here.
