I totally agree with you on just going and buying an all-in-one battery off the shelf. I've been happy and less anxious about keeping the cell voltage balanced or coming out of balance. Im done

Much simpler and even cheaper now. But it is still fun to do a DIY battery as a hobby.

@@OurBlackCatCottage Yes the Hobby factor although I have no money left for the Hobby after all the mistakes I've made.

I built a 48 nominal (51.2) volt battery with Grade A EVE LF280K cells and JK BMS with Bluetooth, 2A active balancer and 200 amp for $1,339. That is a 300 Amp Hour battery. There isn't any pre-made battery with 300 AH @15,360 watt hours that can comes close to this price and performance. You would need three $1,200 rack mount batteries @ $3,600 to match this one battery.

You make a great point. Large custom builds like what you did still make sense. Btw, sounds like a nice build.

Thanks, I built four of these batteries for a total of 61.4 kilowatt hours. This is good for about 6 days of anatomy. We are 100% off-grid with an EG4 18KPV inverter/charger and 15 kilowatts of Bi-Facial Solar. We also charge the battery bank with an EG4 Chargeverter @ 5,100 watts at 100 amps.

@@stevenfrazier8939 hello, I am trying to build 2 of 48v 280AH, I wonder that type of wire did you use to put yours in parallel? I am using a JKBMS as well. with 2 growatt inverter.

@@usafshorts Thank you for the question, I used 1/0 American Wire Gauge Fine strand Black & Red Pure Copper Flexible Wire. At the start I had two batteries and connected both to a bus bar with equal length wires, that is very important. 1/0 AWG can handle 285 amps. Now that I have four batteries they are grouped in pairs with equal length wire back to the bus bar. I did put my battery cells into a DIY kit box by Apexium which came with JK-Inverter-BMS. They are pricey at $640 each so I get it if that is not on your radar at this time. The point is, I used the same size wire for the build as well. At 12,000 watts and 51.2 volts I can pull 234 amps divided by 4 batteries is only 58.5 amps from each battery.

Decent video but you forgot a very important step! Compression! Those look like EVE cells and they highly recommend compression to get the best performance and life out of the cells.

I will add that to the next video. Thanks for the input.

Better to buy a set of battery . If you build it you have to purchase a tools measuring tools housing and other components . But if you are an technician and you have a tools already then building a battery is much cheaper than to buy a set of it.

what? you can order 4x 280ah lifepo4 cells shipped from china for 160 bucks right now. get rid of the bms and just use an inductive active balancer board for 5$. 8kwh 24v system for 325$. 8 of them fit perfectly inside of a 20mm ammo can for 30 bucks as long as you get the older threaded style cells. fireproof enclosure and all, 360 bucks. that same battery in server rack form costs 3 times that. the only issue is bus bars if youre pulling close to 1c, and wires as you said, and the 3 months shipping (thats actually how you know youre getting them direct from the mfg)

You should post a link to those cells you bought. I bet the are cheap LiitoKala or some other B grade cell. Beware of cheap cells. I have several videos on that.
Also, people, do not use an active balancer in lieu of a BMS.

Nope. Building batteries is still cheaper. About $250.00 compared to the example you gave. Apexium has US stocked EVE LF280K-V3 3.2V 280Ah for $76 per cell shipped and taxed. That being said there are advantages to buying a prebuilt battery but not quality or cost value.

Good tip but it is really more like, it is still cheaper to build larger batteries. Small builds are dead. And I love making batteries. I might get some larger cells and make another one.
