In real time DIY 12v 200ah LiFePO4 Power station build. Homemade EcoFlow Delta in less than an hour.
Last week I posted a very simple DIY power station build where I compared it to an EcoFlow Delta.
Today I am going to show you every single step to build a DIY 12v 100ah LiFePO4 Power station live. No edits. In one hour I will completely build this Portable Power Station using a 12v 200ah homemade battery(you can use a off the shelf battery too), Giandel 1200 Watt Pure Sine Wave inverter and an MPPT charge controller.
This would be similar to an Anker Solix F2000, EF ECOFLOW Portable Power Station DELTA 2 Max, Jackery or even a BLUETTI AC70 Portable Power Station.
All of the steps, issues, problems in real time. The good, the bad and the ugly. If you are interested in building a DIY portable...

Batteries dead! What can you do when your off grid solar setup dies!
YOU said that they can be placed in series..........how can this be?
Too bad you used a cheap high frequency, output transformerless inverter in your design. A low frequency, transformer based inverter would have made a much better choice.
That would increase the weight and cost x2. Plus he's comparing it to a ecoflow delta which has a high frequency inverter.
Laser saber put inverter with super capacitor and solar panel ran a power chop saw.
That is pretty awesome!
Certainly an option, but you will need some of the not so optional items like a battery charger. I decided to go with the Pecron E1500LFP which during the black Friday sale on Amazon thru Christmas was $615. I decided I couldn't get all the functionality with a DIY not to mention the all in one compact design. The Pecron has a 30 amp 12 vdc output which for our off grid camping adventurers will power our Hiker Camper better than any Ecoflow model and at a lower price.
Pecron is a solid power station. And at that price it beats a DIY for sure.
Thank you for sharing this. Great job 👍
Thank you !
No smoke is away good
LOL. So true
You want the batteries hooked up first so power has some where to go when you put the panels on
Solar panels were attached last.
Could you please tell us where you got your Batteries from and where you got your buss bars at please and thank you much appreciated
This battery was an old one I DIY years ago. I would recommend OKMO batteries - amzn.to/4euRDWn And the busbars are Blue Sea Systems - amzn.to/4ixTWv4
I would have put 2x4 in the corners to make it more durable
I did think about that but it is not needed. I have built several of these and the 3/4 plywood is enough. Once I made one from 7/16 and it was way too weak and could have used corner supports.
200 AH? Or 100AH battery? Also, did I miss the BMS on your diy battery? I'm no expert. Seems like just one fan, for exhaust, would work with a static vent on the opposite side of the box.
It is a 200ah battery. 100a JBD BMS. Can't really see it from where the camera is. In my first builds I tried just one fan with vents on the opposite side but it wasn't enough air flow and the inverter kept getting too hot. Two fans just works better for me.
Please watch the video before commenting about fuses, charging, etc, it will save time for everyone.
Thanks I'll try it
Excellent. Let me know how it goes and what battery and inverter you end up using.
Since 2012 we use this kind ,and the only down side you need to replace the battery between 8-12 months after use, the battery life depends on how much do you use it
A good LiFePO4 battery should last 10 years even if you cycle it every day. I guess if you are hitting with a 2c load everyday it could hurt it.
@OurBlackCatCottage yes, but it depends on how much do you use the battery, and here what he used is acid battery which is different
Thanks for sharing. I wish I went this route before I bought a Bluetti. I’ve have nothing but problems since I went that route. Now I have to spend double to get a decent setup. At least no one got really too sick when the Bluetti failed while I was using it to power a fridge.
That is surprising. I thought Bluetti had a good reputation. Sorry to hear that you are having so much trouble.
Did you beat $375?
Not even close to that. But an equivalent EcoFlow with be closer to $1000. Equivalent isn't even the right word. An EcoFlow would be much better.
Thanks for the video I’ve got a 300 amp lithium just got a cheap hundred dollar inverter so it doesn’t use that much power…. From the battery I think i’ll hook up some heating pads on the battery with a switch to preheat it in cold weather…. put it all in the toolbox along with a 60 amp ion lithium battery charger … the inverter has battery charge display….. so Bob’s your uncle…lol total build 900.00 can
Sounds like a great setup. Thanks for watching!
Excellent video. I did this years ago in a trolling motor box using an AGM 12v battery, 400w inverter and the 100w panels with solar controller from harbor freight. Worked perfectly camping for years and just gifted it to a friend. Well done, sir.
Thank you. Your build sounds great too!
It might be close to the same if you have some way to charge it.
Cheap MPPT charger will solve that. But an EcoFlow is still nicer.
Can it be changed over for use on LP
I am not an expert on propane so I am not sure. I know it worked fine with a standard 100# propane tank.
Ty for the video, but wow talk about bare bones. Yes I know it will work.
Bare bones is a good way to describe it. LOL!
Not even close to “equivalent”. There’s a difference between being half-assed and equivalent. DIY has its place but don’t be dishonest.
Thank you so much for watching and I am glad you enjoyed it!
I went the DIY route until fast charging technology became common, along with the steep price drop in higher capacity power stations. I can plug a compact 96AH LiFePo4 power station into a coffee shop outlet and be outta there in an hour.
Power station are so much more powerful and cheaper now. I actually have a full power station review coming up in a few weeks so subscribe and check back for that.
Yeah nice video, but you can save even more money on temu yeah temu , oh yeah I know everyone hates it, but I got a 600 watt solar panel and 2000 watt power inverter for way way less money and the same for my battery , and they work great, I even had a power outage and was very comfy, I was able to cook and keep warm all for around $300. I'm going to be buying 2 more power inverters and batterys because they are so low cost, don't believe me just try it it works great.
Good to know.
The resistor doesn't charge up on its own.. It's there to charge the capacitors in the inverter. Leave the negative on longer. The larger the inverter the longer you have to leave it on. Always have a fuse.
What size fuse friend?
For half the price it’s not even remotely comparable. No solar input No AC charging No DC outlets No fuses or switches No case No battery monitor Cumbersome and not conveniently portable But seriously, at a minimum you should have added one charging source. Imagine you buy a rechargeable battery powered fan. And they don’t put a usb port on it. You’d be like, wtf
Thanks for watching!
2:00 That battery price reads $320 and when I follow the link two days after the video posted, the Amazon price is now $370.

Thanks for watching!
What kind of battery is it
OKMO 12v 200Ah LiFePO4. Excellent battery and a great price. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DGF4TSXG?th=1
As a benefit and safety for any newbie wanting to mimic this setup, it is imperative that you fuse your cables, no excuses. Adding a DC on/off switch, or what we the industry call a "service disconnect" will allow you to isolate the battery in the event of an issue. Do not rely on the BMS for over-current shutdown. You can install a MRBF (Marine Rated Battery Fuse) with terminal on to the positive post of the battery. Simple and Safe. Happy Holidays.
I talk about all of that at the end of the video. I personally like Blue Sea Systems terminal fuse. I use it on all of my batteries and then on my big systems I also have a Class T fuse.
Excellent concept, but please stress that some sort of overcurrent protection MUST be installed between the positive battery terminal and inverter positive power input. They're not optional!!!
You have very reasonable prices there for lifepo4 batteries, the cheapest lithium batteries here cost over 300 euros, and it's not a good brands, but the lead acid is very cheap yet.
It's a very nice battery too.
Wow i should have searched amazon more i could have saved myself 20.00 I just bought 2 Wattcycle. They have been getting great reviews so
Costs more to build those now, than just buying premade ones
I love the premade ones for sure, but I just showed how you can make one for half the price yourself.
Good video showing exactly how easy it is to build a small "power station." I own 3 portable power stations. Like you said, they are the way to go. I like them because of their portability. I can easily carry a 1kwh portable power station with one hand as it weighs about 27 pounds. I paid around $400 for this one, Anker, and it can run virtually anything I need to run. They 2k inverter makes it very usable. The inverter you use here also has some USB outlets. A 2k inverter is overkill for running lights and charging phones, but it's much more versatile and can run hot plates and such very easily where a 1k inverter is more limited. I've bought several of the lifepo4 12v batteries from Amazon this year and paid around $150 each. That's about what a Walmart battery costs. Take a 2k portable power station, kook a couple of 12v batteries to it, and you create a very capable system that will run your fridge, TV, router, lights, and a fan for quite a while. I have 2 of the DIY systems as they are easily scalable. Their limitation is portability.
Thanks. And I agree with everything you said.
Chup gringovideo
Not sure what that means but thanks for watching the video.
thabnk you for the video. however, i did not see any REAL mention of charging. the eco- that you mentioned has a bult in AC charger, ac cord included. it also has a MPPT solar charger built in w/ DC cables. i think that might skew your numbers slightly. would love to see you update this vbideo to include those points- as i am sitting insiode right now, waiting for the snow to srtart. thnaks~!
You can't go wrong with a EcoFlow. Everything built in. I do talk about how to charge it at the end. You can add an MPPT controller for just a few dollars more.
and how do you charge this battery!
Did you watch the entire video?
The killer feature for me is the UPS 10ms switch.
That is an excellent feature for sure.
Ecoflow has a MPPT charge controller and built in AC charger. Your system has neither. Also, considering the size of your put-together system, you really need bigger battery cables based on possible draw size. Also, a fuse would probably be a good idea while you're at it.
Those cable are perfectly fine for 100 amps at the distants. And I do talk about fusing. But regardless, an EcoFlow is for sure the way to go for most people. I will doing a review of one in a few weeks.
@@OurBlackCatCottage The inverter and battery can deliver far more than those battery cables can deliver. We are talking over 150 amps continuous or double that on a surge which will cause voltage ripples. Use bigger cables big guy.
@@OurBlackCatCottage Have you ever heard of voltage ripple? Doesn't sound like it. Also, distance doesn't matter on DC cable under 50 ft. The distance with respect to resistance is a myth on DC cable. I invite you to look into ripple and distances for an improved attempt. Sorry to sound negative. I like the idea of DIY power stations so I do appreciate your video. I also like the fact you engage with your viewers. Have you ever heard of Licitti diy kits? I'm thinking of buying something like that and your viewers may want to see you fully analysis one. If you do, I'd be very interested in a critical review which I suspect you can handle well. Merry Xmas and the best for you and yours in the NY.
The ECOFLOW Portable Power Station DELTA Max 2000 accepts both solar and 110 v grid as power input. How does the DIY power station in the grid get charged?
Watch the video till the end. EcoFlow has so many advantages over this homemade one or any that it is not even funny. LOL. I will be doing a review of a great Power Station next week.
Sorry, thumbs down from me. I'm all for DIY setups as I do them myself, but this one is terribly incomplete, unsafe, and most definitely not "equivalent" to an Ecoflow. There are plenty of good videos on RUclips showing decent DIY power stations - some portable, some not. Unfortunately this is not one of them. Some advice for you on using your setup: Get yourself a decent lithium-capable AC charger (assuming you're not interested in solar charging, that is). Unlike your typical Duracell AAs, lithium batteries are rechargable. Also, add fuses, avoid fires.
So glad you loved my video!! Thanks for watching.
That particular ecoflow has a 48v battery (14S16P) so it's quite a bit more efficient than a 12v system. But also I think you may have under quoted the price of it. The link you supplied quotes $1699-, making your system around a third of the price :)
Even better. LOL.
The 200 dollar battery you showed is actually 370 on Amazon.
He said that;s what the inverter cost, not the battery.
Battery link is here. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0DGF4TSXG?th=1 Click on the coupon for another $50 off. And free shipping. But act fast because this deal will be gone soon.
As of now I'm watching this video on a 60" tv plugged into a gaming pc powered by my first solar power system I made. Feels good lol
Congratulations! It is a very exciting feeling for sure. What did you build?
@OurBlackCatCottage when it's all said and done, it'll be a 400ah battery bank ran on a 3,000 constant inverter, which can automatically switch from grid to solar as needed. Which powers my recording studio that pays the bills. Instantly cutting power bull in hath as this studio is constantly using power day n night. I'll be doing a video on my setup soon. I bargain shopped and ordered everything online, so I got everything for a fraction of the cost.
Okmo batteries are over priced
Really? What is cheaper?
Can you use the foam bottle that comes with the pressure washer with the quick connect spray wand?
I don't think so. Or at least I never have.
Having the money to buy a power station is good. Having the knowledge and skills necessary to build your own power station is invaluable. I've built several different DIY power stations and enjoy the process quite a bit. I wouldn't exactly call this build a portable power station, though, because it doesn't include an AC or solar input and the output method is very limited.
I have several videos that show the complete DIY build including all of the internal parts like, fans, fuses, monitors, etc. This video very basic and not really for advanced people like you. What type of battery do you use for your builds?
Good idea and easy. How do you recharge it up when the battery runs low? You did not mention that on your video.
I do at the end of the video.
@@OurBlackCatCottage I am getting those items to make my own large solar power station. I did get 1 thing different, a solar controller along with what you got. That I maybe able to connect a single or dual solar panels or a large folding solar panel. Thanks, I will rewatch that video of yours.
For a different perspective, by the time you add the AC to DC charger, MPPT solar charge controller, fuses, shunt, battery disconnect, 12v fuse block for accessories and USB output, you'll be getting close to the same price. Adding these features would make the setup significantly less portable. Plus a 48v architecture is more efficient than 12v and an all-in-one power station will come with a decent warranty, support, and the option to control and monitor the entire system with an app.
Thanks for adding your perspective!
Great Video- I am thinking of this for a remote Ham Radio station
Be perfect for that.
