How hard is it to install a foil strain gage sensor? With practice, installing strain gage sensors becomes a routine operation. It does require meticulous attention to detail and strictly following the procedures. A typical procedure includes surface degreasing, abrasion, cleaning, etching, and neutralizing, then adhesive application and curing, and finally, applying environmental protection. If a pre-attached lead wire option is not used, then there would also be steps for soldering and flux removal. Choice of adhesive and protective coating procedures and materials varies, depending on test requirements.
Like my father used to tell me, if you are going to do a job, do it right, make sure you have the proper tools and materials.

    Great Video.
One question. If we need to bond two gages one next to the other, is the tape for bounding is going to "uncleen" the bounding surface that has been cleened ?
    I got a GAK 2 200 kit and some 187UW gages.
    Thanks

We try to select tapes that do not leave a residue. Always good to check the surface for any residue if the tape has been removed. Basically reclean the area if any is present. Often times we will orient the gages on a cleaned piece of glass before installing on the surface and that includes gages that will be side-by-side. The two strain gages get transferred at the same time from the glass to the test article.

I want to stick a strain gage on a rectangular UD composite specimen exaclty in the fibers direction, how i can do that, knowing that the edge of my specimen are jagged ?

If the surface is rough, you will need to either abrade the surface to smooth it out before bonding or try using a thicker epoxy adhesive such as the M-Bond GA-2 to smooth it out.
