Ray Jackson of Lindisfarne played the mandolin, but as Stewart didn’t want to pay him any royalties,on the back of the album where musicians are listed,Rays name was replaced by just putting mandolin player.not a nice thing to do.

Maggie is a grown woman and he is a school kid (in the story) who falls for the older woman, as any kid usually will, but she just wanted to have fun with a young boy. So he's broken hearted. (This actually happened to a friend of mine back then, in '71). Rod was the singer of the band "Faces", whose lead guitarist was Ronnie Wood, who now plays with Keith Richards and is one of the Stones. He is playing the mandolin at the end (the tinkly instrument; he also plays another instrument associated with country music, like the mandolin, and that is the pedal steel guitar, which he plays on The Girl With the Far Away Eyes).

  • @jamesrowe3606

I saw Rod and The Faces in 1974 at The Apollo in Glasgow (Scotland). Rod was born in London to Scottish parents and he has always considered himself to be Scottish, which we love. It was an epic gig. The crowd sang every word of Maggie May with him and we brought the house down at the end of it. His band at the time, The Faces, was really tight and great to listen to - Ronnie Wood, now of the Rolling Stones, played lead guitar. If you want to hear more of the same, You Wear It Well and Stay With Me are classics. His post-Faces split stuff was commercially successful but never reached the same heights as The Faces period for me.

And he got talking to Rod in the bar about football. Rod Drank him under the table...carried him back to his cabin. Then went back to the bar and carried on drinking 🤣. That man can drink !

I remember listening to Rod Stewarts Maggie May in the early 70s cruising in my custom van, vans were popular back then. And even after all this time, when I hear this song, for a reason that I don’t remember, it takes me back to an intersection near my home where I grew up.

Hard to believe you didn't know about this monster hit of Rod's. Not only is he a rocker from the 60s, but he is still going and his live concerts are fantastic. So many hits, so many women, he is late 70s now and still performing live and on records.

For the catalog. At the end of the 70s, Rod released a live double album (Absolutly Live). It hit like a bomb back then. Listen to it first and then do some more research. And never forget "Live". He's even better live than in the studio. Have fun.🎵🎼💖☮

Rod Stewart ~ unique, fun, humor
I'd like you to hear "(I know) I'm Losing You" by Rod ...raspy voice rocking out. It's a cover of a Temptations song.

First smash by Rod in America. One of my clearest memories of that time was being in the mall and hearing this over the sound system. 13 years old, rocking out to the song, totally mesmerized and thinking that somehow this song was changing me. Half the lyrics went right over my head!

That was the sound of a mandolin. You can also hear Austin Brown playing mandolin at the beginning of Skull and Bones. A mandolin is frequently used in portraying medieval times.

A free concert headlined by Rod Stewart at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on New Year's Eve 1994 reportedly attracted an audience of at least 3.5 million people-seven times the number who showed up for Woodstock. He must be doing something right. You need to check out "Mandolin Wind"

I saw him in 1975 in Dayton. BOC opened, which seemed an odd pick. Stewart’s entire stage was dressed in white. He wore a white tux. Orchestrate also in white. Played every classic. A top performer.

For Decades the mandolin was credited to Mystery Man. Within the last 5-10 years, Faces guitarist Ron Wood revealed he'd brought his friend to the studio that day. None other than Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page.
