Like Elvis said, “I’d be a fool if I didn’t change with the times.” An Artist’s “true sound” as you say, is the sound at that time.

I've loved Rod Stewart since I first heard him in 1971 when I was 11. I think his sound changed as he matured. I really love this song. A few more of my favorites are "Rhythm of My Heart", "Have I Told You Lately", and "All for Love" where he sings with Sting and Bryan Adams. You've listened to Sting, but I don't think you heard Bryan Adams yet. Bryan Adams is another deep rabbit hole to explore. He has great raspy vocals like Rod. Some songs to react to are "Summer of 69", "Please Forgive Me", and "Everything I Do, I Do It for You".

Rod is now doing 'Big Band' stuff like 'The way you look tonight' & 'I've got you under my skin' for example. Sinatra stuff. LOL He has evolved as all entertainers have to do, if they want longevity... or they become caricatures of themselves, touring doing their 'oldies' forever. This is my favorite Rod Stewart song.

I don't really think of it as doing it for money but just giving it more life. There are tons of songs that are slower but they will do a club remix, and it's great because now you can dance to the song. Obviously, disco would be the club version back there. This is one of my all time favorite songs. Always gives me some chills.

Amazing performer. Concert was fun and very special. In a crowd at an open amphitheater, he has a gift of making an intimate experience by drawing the crowd closer with music, vocals and conversation. He truly has made his career last multiple decades by adapting to different styles, sounds and actually maturing as a man and father before our eyes. I’ve always loved his look, hair and style. Not many artists have it all. Rod’s pretty close!

There is a Bob Dylan song, also called "Forever Young". When this was written, there were enough similarities that Stewart willingly gave Dylan royalties. Yes, the similarities were pointed out in a lawsuit but it never went past filing because the offer was made right away.

    • @jaydawg0321

@@jaydawg0321 Not true, Bob Dylan gave Mark Knopler permission to change the lyrics to "Knocking on Heaven's Door". Mark wanted to honor the children of a mass shooting at a school in Scotland. I've heard that the surviving children sang the chorus to that song.....if so, it's a heart breaker

There's a song by Alphaville called Forever Young that is also great😎
Rod Stewart also had a hit around this time called downtown train You should give that a listen... It's a cover
And by the way there's nothing wrong with commercial success, or with an artist adjusting their sound temporarily to get commercial success. Oftentimes it's that commercial success that allows them the freedom to explore other types of music. Just saying...

Did she just say artists were manipulated to do different genres of music? No sis, back then artists understood the power of popular culture. It was an opportunity to add their artistry to what’s popular and introduce their music to a different groups of people. It might surprise you to learn that there was also cross genre collaborations back then. GASP! Back then people weren’t scarfing down daily doses of conspiracy theories so everything wasn’t some sort of deep state manipulation. SMH
