- For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ Obviously you predominantly hear me using modeling stuff direct at home on this channel, as it's super convenient for recording. For live, I've been trying to find a solution that works, so over this year I've been experimenting with a few things: HX Stomp, HX Stomp XL, Henriksen Bud 6, HX Effects and also a Mesa Boogie Nomad 45. Here's how I'm using these bits!
/ johnnathancordy for my backing tracks and lesson tabs.

Get my PADs bundle here: www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... (this folder will grow, and I'd encourage you to ask for different keys/songs and stuff that might suit this type of preset?)
I've decided to make it possible to grab both my Helix/HX Stomp bundles (the expression bundle with freeze presets has always been separate) together for £5 - www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr... - I will then email you a link to both bundles!
Try my general patches for Helix or HX Stomp in this bundle for £3 using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...
You can get my EXPRESSION patches in this bundle using this link - I will then send out the patches! www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr...

Gidday John, you're a monstrous player mate and a pleasure to listen to. Your solo lines are awesome.... I think you'd sound great thru any rig, cheers from the Land of Oz.
That intro jam was 🔥🔥🔥! Great sounding rig and great playing!
Easy Lover vibes for days, great improv John !
Watching you solo is mesmerizing. Absolutely amazing! I think about buying any guitar you're playing, but realize that wouldn't make me any better. LOL
Love my Henriksen Bud, happy it is working for you!
Phil and Phil. Very nice.
Groovy Ez Lover jam! You da man JC! Keep rocking🎸👌
John’s videos prove it beyond the shadow of a doubt:
the tone is in the socks!
LOL!
The qualities of either unpretentiousness or humor are what makes me love John's videos above and beyond the ridiculously fluid and awesome playing and information he consistently delivers.
The intro jam was phenomenal. 🤘
Wonderful playing- love it 👊🏻😎
And now Easy Lover is stuck in my head 😁
Fav arrangement of “Easy Lover” ever!
That opening jam made me smile
The HX effects is such a brilliant piece of kit. I use it with the Simplifier from DSM instead of the Stomp
Easy Lover. I love it
Phil Collins and Phillip Bailey🤘🎸👍
I've been looking at the Airstep. The fact that it can be used in with Video and Audio editing also is a big plus. 300 hour rechargeable battery is nice also.
I have the Helix floor and I've been using it for most of the situations. 4 cable method or straight to P.A.
I also have the hx fx.
I got the nux amp academy and put it on a board with a mini expression pedal (Dunlop x)....
So, HX effects plus amp academy...short version of Helix.
They work great together.
Oh....I forgot to mention.
...great playing 👍👍👍
I've been wanting to try using just the effects pedals of my POD HD500x like a HX Effects going into my Stomp. Not sure what it will sound like but I'm going to give it a shot. Thanks for the informative video!
Do a great gig :) Sweet set up!
Thanks for showing us your live rig. I love watching rig rundowns and how people use them. Question. Once you start to pair up say a stomp with like an hx effect, doesn’t it seem like a helix floor would take up the the same amount of floor space and get the job done with all the routing that you are going for?
Easy Lover... Love it!
Hi John. Thanks for sharing this. Look forward to hearing how you get on. Curious where the Helix floor fits in and where you might use it over over there other options? Thank you.
This gives off major Boston vibes
I have a Stomp and a HX FX (and an Iridium and an Ampero II Stomp). I struggle with the drives in the Line 6 devices. The amps and other effects all sound very good, but I have frequently felt I needed to add an external drive to get sounds I liked. The Strymon SUnset and Riverside were among the attempts I made. But since getting the Ampero, I am leaning away from Line 6 somewhat. I still love the HX Stomp, but I find the Ampero easier to dial in tones that I really like. The amps don't have as many parameters, which makes them simpler to dial in, and the drives just sound better to my ears. My current rig is the Ampero II Stomp with a 6 button MIDI controller to provive more switching, pos ned on a Pedaltrain Nano board. i also have the Ampero mini expression pedal which I use off the board if I bring it along. Portability is key. So, this Nano-based board really works for me.
She's an easy lover..
"The tweeter may be the enemy of guitar tone" you know, after all of the time I spent with that venerable GP100 rig with both my studio monitors in the studio and the same patches on stage through the EVM12L cabs, I agree completely "IN A LIVE SETTING FOR STAGE MONIITORING ESPECIALLY" I have tried using, say an SWR bass combo with the tweeter enabled with that rig and it was way too brittle and spiky. However, a feed to FOH sounds great with the right sound man ant the helm.
Nice version of easy lover.
We played it for the first time last night - what a tune!!
@@johnnathancordy Nice! You should see if you can work any Billy Idol tunes into the function gig. Steve Stevens is a hell of a player. Hope it was a good gig.
Great video. I have the Ampero 2 stomp and wondering if I could do the same thing with the HX effects as you do in the video?
Easy Lover!
Can you do a review on the bud?? Specifically for jazz, I''ve been really keen on picking one up
Great rig, great playing, great tone, etc. Now for something important....what's up with the unmatched socks?
If you have humming on the vocal microphone . . . print the lyrics for the singer :)
What if they read at Joe Biden level?
Hi John, when you are plugging your HX into a desk using the XLR inputs to you have to make sure phantom power is off?
Perhaps the Behringer Hum Destroyer also acts as a phantom blocker?
I'd imagine that must be true?
I didn't need the Hum Destroyer last night btw
You may have covered this before, but why don’t you just use a Helix Floor board. Wouldn’t that do everything in one easy to carry set up?
Because it's big and heavy, and the floor doesn't have gig view, scribble strips can't be seen in daylight
@@BobbyCulpepper.srv3fender what’s gig view? I don’t agree that it is heavy especially if compared to a HX Stomp and a HX FX. I don’t get it.
@@scottdenmark3577 gig view is like scribble strips but on the main screen, squares that coincide with footswitches... In outdoor daylight gigs you can't see the scribble strips at all but you can shade the main screen or use a anti glare cover enough to see what's going on especially with gig view. You don't think the helix is heavy compared to the stomp? To me it is, even in a gig bag it's pretty hefty and bulky, I gig with both the LT and the stomp XL and I always take the XL whenever possible. So much lighter.
@@BobbyCulpepper.srv3fender ok I know what you mean. I am surprised that it is that much better than the scribble strips. The others are definitely lighter but it’s not like the Helix is that heavy. Still don’t understand this decision other than the gig view.
@@scottdenmark3577 minimalism
Would love to see some live videos of the band if you have any 🎸🎸👍👍
Yeah me too :)
Interesting comments. Floor vs the split stomp & HXFX . What’s your best disaster story John? Component wise assuming your power doesn’t completely go, splitting things up like this would definitely give you a bit more margin against having everything in one box like the floor.
Not sure on disasters, but I could definitely see there being a scenario where I forget a power supply and then...Well...Whoops?
@@johnnathancordy been there. At least 3 times with the hxstomp.
You don't have your Powdercab 112+ anymore? I'm liking that with Helix or Quad Cortex for any gig.
I found the Henriksen has been working just as well to be honest!
What guitar strap is that? Looks comfy!
You should try Bluguitar. You will love it.

Hi, I would like to buy your live preset for the Hx effects. Please let me know how i can get it. Thank you for great videos.
Hmm.. at my uni I have to plug into the front of a random clean amp (mostly AC10C1 or Peavey). Of course my direct HX Stomp presets won't do but I don't manage to get good presets with the HX distortions. Could be as you describe, your HX FX presets on the HXS will save me the headache :-) which bundle should I buy?
I grabbed the hlx hx bundle. I think it's the right one as it contains an hx fx folder. Tnx
Ah, the excitement on your face when you said Dua Lipa 😅
Interesting comment in this vid. Could you do something on why the tweeter is "the enemy of guitar tone".
Are you using the Revstar with the P90s live, or taking other guitars with you?
I used the Revstar last night, I've been using my White Tele on gigs recently too
Hey John how different is your live rig for 2022 from your 2021 rig
Really don’t understand this JC
Helix floor / FM 9 and a Atomic FRFR - neo !! Job done !!
Your taking more weight and more gear !! Just seem trying to fix problems that are not there !
Hi tried an atomic !
Hi, what PA do you use?
I just dropped on the FM3 and EV1 after using the JMP1 solely since 1998. Interesting how you've arrived at this helix setup and not the fractal? What were your reasons for this as I'd be interested to know.
Should add fm3 arrives next tuesday
Strange request but could you do a guitar strap rundown, and include affiliate links? :)
I've been wondering about that Strap with the asymmetrical ends. I've been seeing it around. Just got a Levy Right Height though. That's going to be hard to top.
@@IIImobiusIII thanks for the tip!
Hey Rob! I use Franklin straps!
Hey John, thanks!
Phil Collins!
Easy lover cover???
😁😁😁😁😁
Please share your Journey presets.
I just got an hx effects to use with my stomp and/or catalyst or whatever else I can dream up (put it in the loop of a Boss Sy1000). Anyway I would be interested in checking out the preset in this video.
Bit overkill I think, if you need more dsp and gona use this much floor space and routing may aswell use full helix floor. As this is practically 1k on the floor 🤣 or even the other options fractal/cortex for a little more dollar
I'm not sure, the Stomp is just to go to front of house, only the HX effects was actually on the floor last night, but this idea was trying to get the best of both worlds with the Amp/Modeling hybrid. But yeh. Chucking the Helix floor did seem just as logical
why not bring out the catalyst for gigs?
A friend is borrowing it at the moment - but I will try this in the next couple of weeks hopefully if I have space in the car!
Amp?
Mesa Nomad or Henriksen Bud
Tragic stuff lol
What the frick is a marquee gig? I genuinely don't know
I think it's a gig in a marquee . . . garden party kind of thing.
Everyone is [probably] too young to remember the Marquee club now :)
@@serpensnovus9869 right. The extra need for volume would make sense outside
Yeh exactly like an outside Tent type situation - it's generally a situation where you can play a bit louder than normal wedding situations where you have dodgy sound limiters and hard walls/terrible acoustics
@@johnnathancordy I truly hate those; I once sang at one close to a lake and we where completely swarmed by wasps and mosquitos every evening when thwe sun set 😄
Digital pedals into a tube amp.....LoL man....
