The answer is more nuanced. I can only speak on North Carolina because it is the state I am familiar with but to register to vote you can use an ID. If you don't have an ID you can use the last 4 digits of your SSN. If you have neither you can check a box saying as much. College ID versus Gun License discussion seems nonsensical to me, PLENTY of college students are not citizens, they are studying abroad and what have you. However, to own firearms and pass a 4473, you NEED to at least be a permanent resident with proof of said residency. I am of the opinion, as are many, that if you're not a permanent resident or a citizen, you should not be able to vote here. I do not believe that to be unreasonable, and bringing up gun licenses specifically seems more like a "ha see, those republicans (to which i am not, by the way) care more about guns than democracy"
The ID is used at the polls to prove you are who you say you are not that you are a US citizen. You prove you're a US citizen when you register to vote. So your point about college ID's is null.
At around 25:00 Sam asks a perfectly reasonable and straightforward question about why anyone would resist the need to have proper identification when they vote. His guest then launches into a song and dance about Sam's "meta-question", the semantics of identification, and the alleged sinister motives behind voter ID laws. Such arguments just come off as disingenuous, for the following reasons: Passports and driver licenses aren't the only form of official photo IDs. The same state agencies that issue driver licenses also issue non-driving photo IDs, usually at a fraction of the cost (or even free in some states; and in many states it's free if you're homeless). And I'm not sure why being poor or a minority should mean you're less likely to have access to your own birth certificate, and/or social security card. Someone needs to explain the connection there. Also, a photo ID is already required for so many things in day-to-day life (as Sam points out at the above-mentioned timestamp) that it seems unlikely most citizens wouldn't already have one. One last point: so many countries around the world that are even more liberal overall than the U.S. require official photo ID for voting, so it's interesting that the pushback on this in the U.S. is from the left.

@@uscbro69 You realize that elections are managed by the state and not the federal government? The only place the federal government makes the rules at is in D.C.
I am a foreign student and my university ID and Student Visa says so.
Such arguments just come off as disingenuous, for the following reasons:
Passports and driver licenses aren't the only form of official photo IDs.
The cheating is the point.

now we have had the other side actually do it, with 80 made up charges of nonsense that would put their political opponent in prison for 800 years, cause they cant beat him fairly... and not a single peep was ever to be heard from sam or your kind
funny how that works
in fact, you copypaste the exact same comments you had from 2016, despite not a single thing happening from 2016-2020 in terms of your predictions, and in fact the comlete oposit
at least get some new material!
Back? That's the only mode I've ever seen him in.
Trump is basically a 1990s democrat on social issues.
And a 1990s Republican on the economy.
He is also personally reprehensible in almost every way.
But jts still harder for me to pick Harris.
Trump may not personally care about social issues. But his cabinet and goons do.
That's why he appointed Judges to overturn roe v Wade.
@@infidelheretic923which Obama announced he would prevent by ratifying it: "my first priority". After getting elected:"Not a priority..."
vote for a reprehensible and deeply flawed human being and see how that goes lol

Come back on when you don’t have the flu, dude.
Is either one of u looking into Google? How it may have a slant lean for certain candidates and are being invested for it?
This dude is disingenuous and ridiculous. Sam brougjt up IDs required to fly, and this dude brings up people can use a power bill to vote. Good god. This is insane. This dude is insane!!!
You're thinking of George Wallace.
Is this MSNBC?
thank you
another banger of a podcast - except behind a paywall - disappointed in u sam
You can get the exact same content from watching The View.
Made possible by grants from your cronies that are deranged.
The descent into fantasy.
Even if our system works, democracy isn't in charge. Corporations have all the power. CIA etc. Not the people.
Putting this behind a pay wall before the 2024 election is just not the way to go...
This video is a crucial PSA, not just another opportunity to make money.
You can listen free if you subscribe. I followed the link to do that once many years ago. But it is such a hassle. So I only listen to the first part. Sometimes I regret it..........but usually I just move on and get information elsewhere.
I'm not taking any lectures on "our democracy" from Harris. Not after he exposed himself as an authoritarian on the Triggernometry podcast.
Listening on RUclips before my subscriber podcast gets it
It needs to be uploaded first before it can be announced otherwise what would be the notification: coming up, stay put, ready, steady go?
So you now need to verify whether this type of failure of evaluation is also being applied by you subconsciously to other areas of your life
How many yogis does it take to screw in a lightbulb?
Sam Harris is boring. There, I said it. His early work was important, I used to wish I could meet him, but now I can’t even get through a podcast.
His early work was garbage. You just grew up
They're eating the cats!!
They're eating the dogs!
Wait until his Making Sense podcast and RUclips channel dwindle down into the realms of the C list. He’ll double down and get more whiny and self righteous.
Like how he whines about how bad twitter got causing him to leave but then doesn't tell us it was really about how he couldn't deal with the massive crushing pushback he got for justifying the Hunter Biden laptop cover up: "I don't care if Biden has bodies of children in his basement."
Former highly respected individuals for Harris. Who's with me?

Lol. Played games with friends, therefore....
Who was the last freely elected democrat nominee? DNC picks it for you.
Correct, political parties are private associations in the United States. They are not the government. This is basic civics knowledge.
Did you forget about Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barrack Obama, John Kerry, Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Michael Dukakis, Walter Mondale, and Jimmy Carter?
You have clinical levels of memory loss. Seek medical help.
@@spacetoast7783 you aren’t paying attention to the primaries
I’d say Obama was the last candidate that democrats wanted.

Sam Harris is a dedicated gun owner, pro Iraq war and at least on one occasion defended racial profiling. He is fanatically pro Israel and islamophobic, further a bitter critic of affirmative action, black movements like BLM. He has consistently attacked trans emancipation movements. We have to give it to him, what an amazing success that he managed to convince enough people that he somehow is politically not on the right. Maybe by frequently repeating the phrase "right of centre and left of centre". He has cleverly played his anti-Trump card with success. It was an ingenius last-minute spin, right when it became obvious what his lifelong efforts have led to in our society. So in order to save his career he quickly positioned himself against the Trump. Sam Harris, you have been enabling what resulted in Trumpism for decades.
You have the nuts to bring up gun ownership as a sign of him being right wing? Have you lost the plot totally? According to that metric, Kamala is right wing.
Sam is a total stooge of the establishment
It would be great to have Andrew Bustamante on
Andrew’s totalitarian liberal empire is right in line with Sam’s schtick

The dumbest concept ever. Absolutely impossible. You'd be hard pressed to achieve it even in a household.

Democrats are for a standard id if it is provided for free.
Voter ID implants are the only way! 😂
Yes, unfortunately the chips only fit in the brain right now. Tesla understands this is inconvenient, which is why the first head removal comes with a 7000 dollar tax rebate 😂
You already have identified yourself by registering. Showing your state ID already ties you to multiple forms of ID. We don't need to bring 3 forms of ID to a polling booth. Completely over the top voter suppression tactic.
LOL no one believes this especially not you.
