Wow, the comment is beginning to get likes. Thank you, and I request : please raise your voice against blasphemy / apostasy laws in Pakistan. Us ex-Muslims cannot even announce our lack of belief, let alone engage in any form of debate on Islam. Very few people, like Sam, understand the depth of oppression, and the relentless chokehold on any possibility of conversation that we experience. This is how Islam survives in my country: by smothering debate/discussion. Once again, thank you all, and please value the the gem that is Sam Harris. He’s our Murshid (Urdu/Persian for spiritual teacher/mentor). ❤✊🏾

Right here in this video, Sam Harris spreads disinformation by characterizing college protests as motivated by antisemitism & confusion, no crowds has ever shouted "go back to Poland you Jew". The college protests are merely askng their schools to divest their tuitions from companies supporting the ongoing genocide & Apartheid system, because Divestment was a valuable tool in dismantling South African Apartheid.

I used to be a fundamentalist Christian who used to believe that everything in the Bible was the word of God. I suspect it is only because of my past commitment to that kind of theology that I have come to be so concerned about other forms of fundamentalism, particularly this one. Those kinds of belief are a firewall against reason and they self-evidently can and often do lead to appalling intolerance, violence, horror and destruction.
I fear that the vast majority of people who have never themselves had a fundamentalist mind-set have very little idea of the seriousness of the situation. Sam Harris is at least one great exception.

I quit donating to my alma mater, Princeton University, around 2015, when an organization known as the Black Justice League, encouraged by a former Dean of Studies in the 1990s turned President of Brown University, pressured the school to remove the name of Woodrow Wilson from every building, dorm, and the School of Public and International Affairs; they also began circulating an anonymous BDS petition among undergraduate students, which is akin to mob tactics.
As for other lofty moral relativists who find excuses for the dregs of humanity, I recall French "sociologist-philosopher" Alain Badiou after 9/11 explaining that the US somehow had it coming, and Noam Chomsky, after the Charlie Hebdo and Kosher supermarket massacres of January 7 to 10, 2015, finding excuses for the culprits due to their social class. - He was the first to emphasise science as a research topic at the University.
      - As US president, he turned WW1 around. After the entry of the United States in 1917, the slaughter was basically over. Hence the fact that his name, surprisingly to Americans, is the most frequently used for European streets, train stations, subway stops, schools, etc. , of all American Presidents. You weaponize the Christian idea of protecting the weak and cast any group who is successful as the oppressor. The underlying motive is hatred of the good for being good. Israel is a superior political culture since it is grounded, for the most part, in the sovereignty of the individual. They transformed the desert into a land of material and intellectual wealth. For both socialists who gave up the dream of an industrial utopia and the religious who only store treasures in heaven, they are united against a this-world prosperity.

Israel is not breaking international law.
Israel's military operation in Gaza is a legitimate act of self-defence under international law, in which the IDF and IAF have been targeting thousands of armed Jihadi terrorists, many of whom took part in the genocidal acts committed on October 7 last year.
The so-called Israeli or Jewish settlements are not illegal under international law.
Under the terms of the Palestine Mandate, as set out in the treaties of Locarno and San Remo, unlimited Jewish settlement is permitted anywhere west of the river Jordan.
Paragraph 6 of Article 49 of the Fourth Geneva Convention does not mention settlements, Jewish settlements, the illegality of such settlements, the illegality of building or construction, nor the illegality of people continuing to live in the places of their birth.
Hundreds of thousands of allegedly-illegal Jewish settlers are living in the places of their birth.
That is not illegal under international law.
The right of Jews to live anywhere west of the Jordan cannot be invalidated by the result of war, whether the 1948 War, following which the Kingdom of Jordan passed a law declaring Jewish settlement in the so-called West Bank to be illegal, or the 1967 War, which to the evident disappointment of so many international jurists, Jordan lost.
Contrary to your claim that Israel causes humanitarian disasters, Israel has provided emergency humanitarian assistance to more countries that have suffered humanitarian disasters than has any other country in the world.

I’ve been listening to you for years Sam and I consider you a true voice of wisdom and clarity. But your take on Israel clearly has a few gaps that cannot be ignored. I’m saying it from a Central European perspective which means I don’t know what exactly the student protests are about.
I fully agree with you on the issue of Islam and religion as s whole. But saying that Israel has the right to do what they’re doing and equating it to Ukraine in a previous podcast, is beyond my sense of morals. So from an average, white, European person’s standpoint Israel has been stealing land via the settler movement and illegally driving people from their homes for decades under the pretext of security and god given right. They’ve been enforcing policies of apartheid and occupying land that is not theirs by international law. UN clearly stated multiple times that Israel committed crimes even before this war. And this is why even liberal people in the west simply hate this country. It’s for its policies and arrogance and religious fanaticism, and it has nothing to do with antisemitism. I have nothing against the people. Israel claims they want peace but for decades they’ve proven time and time again that they just want all the land for themselves.
If they really wanted Hamas out they wouldn’t go into war with thousands of civilian casualties, breeding decades of hatred. They would go after the leadership and they would support the peaceful people and the two state solution. But that’s not it.
So please Sam, look the truth in the eye and speak about the reality without omitting inconvenient facts

Your take has a few gaps as well. I believe Sam has stated multiple times elsewhere his criticisms of the current Israeli govt. Then, to say that the protests have nothing to do with antisemitism is hiding your head in the sand. Read some of the chants being shouted by hundreds at these protests. And the Palestiniens are even more culpable of not wanting peace and wanting all the land for themselves (multiple partition plans rejected, multiple intifadas, "from the river to the sea", etc). Lastly, and unfortunately, anything Israel does will lead to undesirable outcomes. It’s really an unfortunate situation :(

I know there are a lot of delusional people among the campus crowds though and I’m appalled by their support for Hamas.
And also I’m fully aware that Palestinians and their delusions about getting rid of Israel are a big part of the problem. In my mind both sides are horribly and tragically misguided by their religious beliefs and until they let it go there will be no peace.
I think Israel always had the possibility to react in a more acceptable way without alienating most of the world but Netanjahu is a crook himself and now has to appease his radical base.
Lastly let me just add that I was really shocked about the dishonest comparison of this conflict to Ukraine vs Russia was by Sam and Douglas Murray. Ukraine is nothing like Israel. They are not the occupiers, they didn’t attack Russian territory, they didn’t discriminate Russians and they surely don’t have more military power than Russia. It's only a clueless and ignorant person who finds anything that he says rational. It is a good thing that college kids in the US don't share his views, it gives hope to the world that dissent and opposition to violence is possible in imperial societies.
You don't have to imagine for long what it would be like if opposition to aggression and terror didn't exist internally in imperial societies, try to find the Indian nations which were exterminated and displaced during the formation of the US, that kind of world is what Sam advocates for where the violence of your own state is defended and definitely not demonstrated against. If you think about it, What would Sam say about the settler colonization of America if he lived at that time?? Exactly what he is saying now in the face of the last settler colonial state constructed and supported by the former colonialists. And all his apologia now is not far fetched from what the perpetrators of the genocide of the Indian nations said, it's a very consistent feature in over 500 years of imperialism.

Whenever you say Israel you seem to mean the best people on that side and when you say Palestine it's the worst people. This conflict did not start on October 7th and it would be good if you acknowledged some of the heinous things the Israeli government has done before and after that date. That doesn't mean not condemning the extremists of Hamas and the idiots supporting them abroad, but it means also condemning the extremists in the Israeli government. The people protesting against Israel are not (all) entirely without a point, and the difference with China is that Western governments and institutions are not supporting it. A more balanced take would do much to sway people to your side.
