A lot of musicians are very concerned with making shit that is "cool" and let's be honest this couldn't be less "cool" and isn't that what's so great and important about what Bruce does? This song in particular bc it is such a vulnerable expression of this very real emotion, a desperate hope that maybe this pain won't be forever and that you can find a strength inside to fight for that hope. I love this performance bc he throws his entire being into it. This isn't just a song for him either, it is an expression of his own desperation to overcome the pain that he was afraid would consume him. Not everyone has that ache, but for those of us who do (bc I know I'm not alone in feeling this way), The Promised Land is kinda like a prayer of some kind. I'm so grateful that Bruce was never afraid to be that honest, bc his songs have meant so much to me.

It didn't seem like he was singing a song. He seemed to be bearing his soul and he just wanted you to believe that there IS a promised land. It was stirring.
