This is the result of decades without proper investment for our rail infrastructure. That Gateway Tunnel should’ve been funded and completed years ago. No excuses.
gateway adds another track and tunnel going to Secaucus. seems like the downed line is between Secaucus and newark, so the gateway project would not have helped. the primary problem is how few lines there are in the system and how the stupid are just adding redundancy to existing lines when entirely new lines/tunnels/bridges should be built so there are alternative routes so there aren’t a lot of single points of failure.
As more Chargers begin to take Amtrak services, some P42s should still be saved for situations like this where they may need to dispatch diesel power to keep the trains moving. Commuters also need diesel power for these situations.
It was actually Chris Christie, he destroyed the NJ Transit with the hopes of selling it to a private firm, trying to emulate the privatization of trains in the UK. It will take decades to undo that harm
@@TheRailwayDrone It was sadistic towards this country to hire as its Secretary of Transportation someone with NO experience or education in this field whatsoever. Clearly, it was done by someone who doesn't wish the United States well, and wants to exploit this vulnerable situation.

Absolutely no question Don’t you find it? Pathetic, that a major vital infrastructure improvement like that tunnel hasn’t been done already?

That’s why I took the path when that happened. Wait until the current Hudson Tunnel collapses
Good thing they've started working on those dang old structures.

wouldn't have helped much with wire covering the track.
@@travisbeagle5691 Right, just learned the wires were downed instead of down. Meh we could use wire replacements anyway haha.
People still take Amtrak?
People still want to travel to New York
