I often take the train in the morning to work in Washington D.C. It is on the same line that the Acela train uses. It's funny because all of us are half asleep because it's so early but then the Acela flies by and wakes us all up before our train arrives lol. I hope to take this train to New York one day.

The thing about trains is they often take you through parts of the city that you wouldn't normally see. Although sometimes parts you wouldn't necessarily want to see.

I’m sorry you didn’t get to see Moynihan Train Hall during the day, it’s quite beautiful. When I last went through there, the food court wasn’t finished yet, but it looked like it’d be great. And Penn Station’s Metropolitan Lounge is hands-down the best in the country: during the day there’s genuinely good hot food (panini!) which can be had *for free* … so long as you’ve booked a roomette or a first class ticket. It’s been a lo-o-o-o-ong time since I’ve lived there, but I’m proud to say my home city is still the best city in the WORLD! 🤗❤️🗽

Hmm - for First Class on a modern train, the seating and the carriage looked dour and utilitarian, somewhat like the ghastly ‘hospital corridor ‘ of a first class carriage on a UK Azuma train. Soft overhead lighting, table lamps, wood or wood-feel panels, attractive seat fabric etc are clearly not important to Amtrack either.

Here in the US, most families have at least 2 vehicles so there hasn't been much R&D into a nation-wide train system. Amtrak, in my opinion, is a disappointment. I remember the glory days of train travel & wish we could return to that.

I've only rode this to NYC - because of all the rail traffic and crossings etc., it only started going a wee bit faster than a normal local train once it got through Bridgeport, which is a very weird looking city. Never got to ride the fast part. I've tried several short-run Amtrak trains - the Downeaster (Boston - Portland, ME - very nice trip) and the Surfliner (LA to San Diego nice too) and the Capital Corridor (Sactown to Emeryville - not that nice). I'd probably leave my soul behind on the platform at the speed the Japanese trains go at.

When the Acela came out I was shocked at the HUGE premium cost for the Acela over the cost for the the NE Regional....... I'm talking like a 40-50% higher prices to save a piddling 10 minutes AT BEST....... needless to say I stuck with the NE Regional.
Well except for one time when I did the "oh what the hell, I'll pay the premium to try the Acela".
It wasn't worth it and the NE Regional was my go to train.

Most likely you were the ones who voted against him and the midterms and who cost him the majority he needed to get a nationwide system of HSR built. Now, instead of being glad that you have at least this train doing its thing and doing it well, you just want to blast it because it's not an exact Shinkansen train, being angry for Kuga when Kuga _wasn't_ disdainful of the Acela _in the first place_ . It's not working, and you all need to get a life and get more involved in politics so that you _can_ get more HSR built besides the CHSR one and Brightline one that's going to go between Los Angeles and Las Vegas.

I've never found the Acela to be all that faster. Better to save your money and take the regular service.
