I sustained a traumatic brain injury that was gnarly enough that I had to re- learn how to sign my name and read. My sister took care of me for seven months. Then my neighbors watched after me. Then my kid. Long road to repairing my brain. My sister, early on, went to the cool toy store and bought a pile of Ravensburger puzzles, starting with 100 pieces and then 200, eventually 500. I sat at a card table by the window and every time I fit a piece in, I would mumble to myself, "I do not suck." or "I got this." or "oh yeah, what a bad ass." The puzzles helped me repair neural pathways and gain confidence. They were an important part of my healing, (I can drive now!) Questions? Jigsaw, sudoku, and crocheting the ugliest hats ever repaired my brain.

Here's my question -- Any plans for Halloween? Last year I tried going to a party dressed as a puzzle piece, but I just felt like I didn't fit in.

When I have a missing puzzle piece I circle the spot on the box and then while the puzzle is complete I trace the opening (space) on a piece of paper and cut it out to be included in the box with the rest of the pieces.

I personally LOVE an oddly shaped piece puzzle! The variation makes it more interesting IMO. I do like the challenge of a traditional puzzle though, too. All puzzles are valid is what I'm saying. :D

Thanks for answering all the QUESTIONS. I love hearing about how/when/where/why other people do puzzles. In response to one of the questions, I definitely use puzzles as a soothing, decompress tool. I wrestle at work with problems that don't always have tidy answers. Knowing the the puzzle CAN come together... it's grounding.

Thank you so much for your most recent video on answering puzzle questions. I recently got back into doing jigsaw puzzles after a twenty year hiatus. I accidently found your channel and you have really helped me a great deal. I didn't know there was so much to know about jigsaw puzzles. I love all the new puzzles. They are so different than the ones I bought over twenty years ago. Happy, happy, joy joy!!

Code word: Questions!About missing pieces: That's how I feel too! I buy puzzles from thrift stores, and sometimes a piece is missing. Not often but I know it's a possibility, so I just think of it in terms of am I getting 2, 3 or 4 dollars worth of entertainment.

Questions! Yes, I know I'm way late here but only just found this channel and now binge-watching...
Rediscovered puzzles a few years ago while dragging myself out of depression and found them highly therapeutic. Now with lockdown in full swing here in the UK they are calling me from their cupboard as a soothing solution for mounting anxiety and cabin-fever. Never feel guilty for spending time with them - it's called self-care!

In CONTRAST to you, I prefer “busy” pictures. Gibson has produced very many, over the years: and so have Ravensburger , Falcon, and Clementoni , some.
Maybe there is only one quality puzzle maker for some European countries.
I don’t mind some sky, but only if there are clouds or some birds.
And certainly I dislike the “distant view of a lighthouse “ type puzzle.
I do also like Wasgij, and have half a dozen waiting, in my pile, to be done.
Clearly one’s age comes into this - I am nearly thrice your age.
But, like you I do like bright colours, if possible.
I also often work on a puzzle, with a friend, and we both have a puzzle in work in our respective houses.
Basically , if alone, I will leisurely do a puzzle while listening to a BBC radio play, of which there are hundreds, now, on youtube.
Nevertheless, I do enjoy your videos and seeing what puzzles are available , in the US.
    Thank you.

Thank you for answering these puzzling QUESTIONS. Have you done a video or are you planning on doing a video on best lighting for doing a puzzle? Glare from overhead lights and stand lamps can be an issue; a room that is too dark, or a dark corner where a puzzling table is situated may be best for room layout yet not for seeing the pieces well.
If you haven’t already done this topic I’d love to hear your thoughts on this. Thanks!

I keep most of my puzzles but I have donated several to the Senior independent living place where I live. They are worked many times. It is nice to meet someone who enjoys puzzles as much as I do. It is a great stress reliever for me.

I don't remember the name of company that did it, but a few years ago I stumbled across a website for a company in the UK that made replacement pieces for puzzles. I don't recall the cost either. Basically you would contact them and then arrange to send them the pieces that surrounded the missing piece plus a good color photo of the puzzle picture. They would then make the replacement piece and send everything back to you.

Late to it. But the QUESTIONS shown here still counts and the one about helping out as coping mechanism is very valid today as so many are suffering and can’t do their usual routines. As I said in the video on puzzling as a guilty pleasure, it help structuring memory, physical and depth perception and being mindful of the process. Nothing bad about it.
