4:23 Mormons aren't allowed to drink coffee (alongside tea and alcohol), and since Mormons (especially parents) tend to be, um, "overprotective", it's not a surprise that this would be noted in this kind of section.
Also IMDB documenting video games is something that TV Tropes calls an "Artifact Title" (ironically, the name "TV Tropes" is an example of said trope)

At base, the Parents Guide for IMDB is a fairly useful idea, as it can give you a basic idea of what to expect from the movie/tv ahow your interested it. I think the main problem is that the contents of these Parents Guide pages are not checked for accuracy or really regulated at all so it just takes one dingus to completely remove any value from the guide.
True and sometimes when I wanna watch a movie or play a game I check imdb to see that it’s good and when it’s pretty bad I hold off on it then when I go back it’s not even that bad and way over exaggerated
LBP1 tutorials were really unhinged. There is one where the narrator just straight up talks like a stereotypical junkie, with the slang and subtle drug reference.

6:47 in all fairness, Splatoon 2’s Octo expansion is actually quite dark. Dark in a subtle way, until your character nearly gets pulverized in a giant blender. Then shit gets creepy real fast.
If you dig deep and find this game series’ lore, it is extremely dark. The fuzzy ooze in Splatoon 3 doesn’t just turn the character into mind-controlled soldiers, it also makes them lose all sense of self. And don’t get me started on Salmon Run’s Grillers having Salmonids in it literally being grilled alive as a form of sacrifice.

And don't forget how in splat 1 and in the octo samurai fight in splat 2, you can hear the screams of octolings being blended up in the deepsea metro. And nobody ever believes me when I say that Splatoon is a dark game...
To be completely fair, this is true for nearly every Nintendo franchise--they seem to really like post-apocalyptic settings. Splatoon, Pikmin, some planets in Metroid, etc.
And don't get me started on Kirby lore or we'll be here all week.

I knew the Pirate one was kingdom hearts 3. I also guessed a bunch of n64 games (like conker) when it came to the innuendos. I got about 25%-40% cause I had never played a lot of the games.

Pokemon: “Animal cruelty” (despite the fact that according to the in-game lore, Pokemon LOVE fighting each other)
Earthbound: “At one point, the characters are in the nude, but only in the Japanese version” (let’s ignore the Giygas in the room, and at one point, you fight against a cult)
Super Smash Bros.: “Violence” (which is THE MAIN PURPOSE of a fighting game, and Smash’s violence is tame and cartoonish compared to, say, Mortal Kombat)
Ace Attorney: “Depictions of crime and detective procedurals” (then why are you playing it in the first place?)
Ape Escape: “Animal cruelty” (despite the fact that the monkeys are the villains)
Banjo-Kazooie: “You can use Kazooie as a weapon, implying animal abuse”
Any gacha game: “Losing your gacha rate might be traumatizing and even scary to some” (someone just got Qiqi’ed in Genshin Impact/Kroosed in Arknights)
Jurassic World Evolution: “The dinosaurs are violent and in the nude” (completely ignoring that they’re animals)
Zoo Tycoon: “Dinosaurs in this game can eat people, while other animals only maul them”

Donkey Kong Country Returns: “Tiki Tong might be frightening to children”
The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask: “Link’s transformations might be scary” (completely ignoring the apocalyptic undertones of the game)
Playstation All-Stars Battle Royale: “Most of the characters are from M-rated games” (ignoring the fact that they have been censored and toned down, also Smash also included Solid Snake, Bayonetta, and Joker, and MultiVersus also included Arya Stark, Rick and Morty, and now, Jason Voorhees)
Oh my gosh the first clue of the thirteenth game absolutely terrified me as a kid. I had to immediately mute the computer any time it looked like I was gonna lose
You can tell that I like splatoon too much when I can instantly guess it from the first one, and am genuinely mad about the fact that they called the octairians, who are the enemies you fight in the singleplayer modes, aliens when they're just another one of the many weird races in the splatoon universe. Also co-op threw me for a loop for a moment because you don't really call it co-op unless it's offline multiplayer, which was only in the first game, and wasn't even co-op, it was a 1v1 mode.
They might've meant Salmon Run? It's more PvE than co-op but I wouldn't expect the people making these reviews to know the difference.

I love how some parents are so overprotective that they REEEEEE at the slightest implication of something explicit. Meanwhile my mom was fine with me watching Attack on Titan at the age of 8 with my sister. And surprisingly I didn't become a psychotic mass murderer, it's almost like most games and movies are unable to fuck someone up just from playing/watching them.
I immediately recognized #4 when they said “pirates world” and I was like “Oh boy! Which kingdom hearts game are they bitching about now?
They really try their best to find the most fucked up of whats basically digital legos

•It was originally implied that a character in the game was gay. This was later admitted to being true by [...] the director/writer/producer of the game.
•Some characters seem drunk, but they say they are drinking cappuccinos.
•In the Japanese port of the game, [...] is shown completely naked in the [...] level. Nothing graphic is seen save for a pair of pixelated buttocks[...].
•The entire game is based around fighting enemies, but no violence is ever really shown.
•It is implied that a character in the game gets shot and dies.
•A character tells another character that she'll "smash his guts out".

•The kids crash the [air ship] twice. They are never hurt by this though.

•Various insulting/abusive/antagonizing language all throughout.

•A man asks another man if he'd like to go get a drink. It could be implied that they are getting an alcoholic drink.
•There are many trippy scenes in the game[...], but they always turn out to be dreams/illusions.
•One woman asks [...] if he has any grandkids. If the player answers "Yes", she will believe him and lament the state of "kids these days!"
•[...] is very creepy.

In one of the random dialogue lines that plays at the start of a custom level, there is a sound of a head being blown up, with sound of blood splattering onto the ground, although the speaker quickly makes a comical retort. Mildly dark humour.

I love how these are the issues, but when a real issue appears like bad friends that encourage dumb and dangerous stuff for no reason like pranks or challenges that could get them killed or arrested, they don't say anything.
@@cloudshifter Because that requires something vaguely resembling diplomacy, wording their concerns, communication, and not being an authoritarian tyrant who goes "do it because I said so" instead of explaining "why" and confronting why their kid wants attention and validation they're clearly not getting from better sources.
It's much easier to clutch pearls and ban things so they can look and feel like a good parent instead of actually going through the pain of *being* a good parent.

What’s funnier is I actually played CO-OP with my sister and it’s pretty much a kindergarten book turned into a game.

A long, long time ago, long before video game magazines were even a thing, before Playstation existed and while PC was trying very, very hard to become a contender for part of the video game market, my father wrote reviews for a local video game shop specifically to help parents figure out whether or not these games were suitable for their children. He'd play these games extensively and write as many notes on them as possible to really get into the nitty-gritty of what might impact a child's mental health in the future, what could make a game "too adult" for a kid, and even began to receive free software and games for this very purpose.
Meanwhile, he sat me down at three or four and taught me how to play DOOM because he knew I could handle it. Rather than potentially scarring me for life, all this has done is made me a more creative artist (with a side interest in practicing medicine).
Seriously, don't underestimate your children, folks! Not all of them are going to be tough as nails, no, and I'm well aware I'm a bizarre fringe case - but they're not all going to be absolutely fragile creatures made of porcelain, either.
Due to you talking about doom I'm thinking your talking about mid 1990s to 2000s. I'm relatively confused on how PC games were less popular as this was right before/going into the golden age of mmos. Pretty sure Ultima was also out at the time of doom but maybe a couple years off

When I was in elementary school, my and some other kids had a pole dancing contest. Me and two other kids were the judges and a couple of other kids were trying to win. We had no idea that pole dancing was a real thing, our thought process was “There’s a giant pole in the playground. Hey! What if we do a dance routine and spin around it and climb it!” Of course, when the adults learned that we had a pole dancing contest, they absolutely freaked out, telling us to never do it again. So many adults assume that even a slight reference to something adult will corrupt a kid, not taking into account that kids have no idea what any of it means.
Plus, not all pole dancing has to do with stripping. There are people who do it just as a form of dance. My friends mother had a pole in her house and did it as a workout, she was not a stripper or ever took her clothes of doing it, of course. Peope like to jump to the worst conclusions and assumed she did private strip shows in the same house as her child.
Parents logic: "I don't want to look at the singular letter rating on the box; too much work. I'll just read long reviews on a website, that's much better."

I would really only use the parents guide to see HOW explicit things like nudity and language are. Like I do that for myself with R rated movies since I don't like watching the graphic stuff.
It's actually better. The rating systems allow and disallow really weird things. For example Coraline is PG-13 or something like that, which a lot of parents think mean it's suitable for their kid. But no, that stands for "parental guidance" meaning you actually do need to know the content to know if it's alright. That movie scares some kids really badly lol. There's also the scene where you can see some old lady's entire boobs. Only their nipples are covered. But tbh I think the concept of kids not being allowed to see nudity is weird. It's not like they're sinning by seeing it and it's not going to disgust them either if they're used to it.

The truth of the matter is that your kid is going to be exposed to... less than desirable elements... at some point, regardless of your efforts to protect them. What matters is that you build a relationship with them such that you can guide and advise them through their exposure to them.
What happens too often is that children rebel against overprotective parents and delve deeply into such things out of adolescent spite, and then have no one to balance them out because they're hiding it from you, the ones who are supposed to support and help them.
Some people really shouldn't have children, yet, they seem to be the ones most likely to have children.
