- My 2011 Suzuki GSX-R1000 has over 100,000 miles on the clock and has ridden around the world. With the help of my mate Ollie Lewin from Premier Motorcycle Service & Repairs, I'm doing a GSXR1000 rebuild and getting her back on the road.
This is episode 4 of the build series, and the BEAST BITES BACK!

Looks like I am not the only one, old dog learning new tricks!
Perfect, very strongt words when you can understand them. Live you life. You have two lives the second one starts when you now you only have one.
teapot can i just say i'm really enjoying these vid's on the beast .Ollie is awsome jeez he knows his job .....high five from skegvegas
Thanks Tom 👍
Another cracking video Bruce, getting there now, Ollie certainly knows his onions...👍
It's just awesom👌 ,
there's one thing for sure Bruce, if your going to do a job, do it right, no bodge ups. This will certainly be done perfectly 👌
a good mechanic a true bike lover
I’ve been working on my own bikes for almost 50 years and Ollie has taught this “old dog some new tricks” in this episode 👍 ! Cheers 😃!!!
Great stuff, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Learnt so much from watching Ollie. He and you should be charging big money for this free mechanics master class! Appreciated.
Man, that bottom race was spent for sure. I mean it makes sense, the weight is mostly on the bottom one but yeah it was time for sure. Looking forward to seeing your world touring bike properly rebuilt! Quick note, I just moved and my neighbor has a load of dirt bikes in his garage so I'm good!!! LOL
There's something very appealing about seeing a neglected piece of kit made good again. I suppose this series is the motorcycle equivalent to the BBC's Repair Shop...Maybe LCR should enrol Ollie to get that ZXR750 finished. I think the GSXR will be great for track days. If it was pristine & mine, I couldn't give it some stick for fear of damage resulting from an off. Given it's got a nice patina, this wouldn't be an issue.
One thing I noticed that raised an eyebrow was Ollie's vice lacked soft jaws. As an apprentice maintenance fitter, I was taught to use them to avoid marking parts easily damaged when holding in the vice. Every mechanic should have a pair...
My old Thunderace from brand new needed new head bearings on its first mot. What a job... I did it with help from a fellow biker and big lad Graham Bennett. I would probably pay someone these days 25 years later
Ollie needs his own channel! Narrating his jobs on other bikes.. he’s brilliant!
hi its ollie, i was thinking of maybe starting a channel, didn't think people would be interested
@@oliverlewin3891 genuinely think you are a natural at narrating whilst working. I just assumed you were already on RUclips in some capacity mate.. ! If you start a channel I will be your first subscriber 💯
@@oliverlewin3891 You’re definitely talented at what you are doing. I will be subscribing too if you have or create a channel !
Love watching his attention to detail and getting it just right. not throwing it back together. Brilliant!
Absolutely, OCD can be a wonderful thing 😉👍
I definitely want to see a full detail clean next
Not happening 👍
Brilliant to watch an expert! I keep thinking of me doing jobs like this and where I’d never think of the little tricks like busting open the old bearing to use as a press. Great stuff looking forward to the next one!
Yep liked that one myself grate tip, never would have thought of it 👌
Had we wincing with the front brake calipers a 17min 23s. No equalisation of the pads with the calipers loose and no sign of a torque wrench. Could have been lost in the edit but didn't look like it.
It takes me a lot longer than that to do head bearings!!
Great skills.
Love this series. I have now bought a brake piston retraction tool, same as your mechanic lol. I looking forward to the rear suspension rebuild lol😅
Enjoy the rebuild m8, you'll be buzzin when she's on the road👍😜
Thanks bud, can’t wait to ride her on the road again 👍
Ollie is an absolute legend! Loved this series. Keep the great videos coming Bruce.
Well done, super impressed by your mechanic friend.
Cheers David, aye Ollie knows his stuff eh👍
Great series Bruce. You found a mechanic with OCD - just what you want! Look forward to seeing the GSXR back on the road. You were right to leave the "patina" on the bike. Preserve the memories :)
Morning Bruce. Been watching the rebuild. Brilliant stuff sir! An old mate bought a brand new Harley Sportser in the early 1980s. After the 1,000 mile service wheels off, engine bolts out etc. Before each bolt went back they got a coating of coppers slip grease. Then whenever anything needed removing it came apart with ease. It can only be a bikers thing while helping to keep out of the partners way being urgent and essential. Trouble was when I stated doing things like this, my late wife would be there with the wirewool ready to clean whatever I took off. Sam's pholosipy was the sooner it's done, the sooner we could ride again 😂😂😂. Finger crossed she's up and running soon. Safe cruising sir until next time 😊👍.
Cheers Les 👍
really enjoyed bringing the rtw gsxr back to life , would love to do some more for anyone else out there
You definitely have a knack for it on camera mate, get that channel up and running 😉👍
A good series this Bruce. Thank you. Pleased you explained how the clapping helps the editing. Often wondered about that
Ha Ha no bother bud, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great watching that. I have got to change my mates headstock bearings next year so it helps seeing this. But depending how much he is paying me will depend on the attention to detail 🤣🤣
Nice to see a bloke that cares about his work and stays there. Goodonya Ollie but that linkage bush may take some work,
Ha Ha aye it was fairly ‘stubborn’!
I’ll aim to get the next series of vids done for early in the New Year 👍
Ollie is a top man. Knows his stuff.
Another brilliant episode guys! This is among the best things I have watched in a long time!
Thanks very much Michael 👍
Really looking forward to seeing it on the road Bruce 👍
Thanks bud, me too!
Great series this Bruce, well done! 👏
Great series Bruce. Goes to show Suzukis are great engineered engines and bikes. The GSXR1000 is a legendary bike. 👍👍
Enjoying the build absolutely brilliant 🇬🇧👍
Bruce that man certainly knows his onions.....master class in making complicated things dooable,
You're spoiling us this week Bruce 😂👌
Aye I’ve shot myself in the foot here haven’t I - there won’t be another vid for about 9 weeks now!🤦♂️
😂
Brilliant vids to watch he knows his stuff and very thorough.keep up the good wrk Bruce👍🏍
Cheers bud 👍
What a fantastic mechanic Ollie is - greta to see a proper mechanic rather than a fitter at work!
Ollie is a great mechanic and explains what he is doing and why. Great information for someone who occasionally checks the oil. Guess I need to smarten up.
love seeing stuff like this, he's obviously very good and knows his craft great couple of videos
Love this series
These rebuild video's have been great 👍
Cheers 👍
Great work, it'll be interesting to see how Ollie tackles the rear end.
It's brilliant seeing the beast come back to life
Lovely to watch someone who knows what he's doing.
thanks Bruce, you kindly sent me a trial several weeks ago and the 40% has just worked for me ok
Brilliant, glad you’re making use of it 👍
Please bring Ollie more times to videos, Im learning Soo much
did my appreticeship at Timken (Bearing company) we used to make 1,000,000 of those cages every week!!
Another nice one. The lower bearing looked really pitted but no wonder if it was just hand tightened. Other than that it's just a pleasure to see Ollie work, this dude knows his craft. I'm exited to see the next one. 😃
Cheers Thomas 👍
Just catching up. Cali I almost bought it two weeks ago. Got it now. As I ride all year will give it a go in a week or so.
Loving this series.
Loving this series - especially as I am not mechanically inclined at all.
Looking good 😎 👍
What a fantastic series of videos. Loved every minute. I've been a bit nervous attempting to tackle my own fork rebuild and head bearing replacement, but Ollie has cleared up the mystery. Fantastic stuff. Looking forward to your next video.
I'm getting PTSD flashbacks to when i had to do the bearings on my bike but the bearing kit I ordered from the local garage were the wrong ones so I had to undo all of my work and redo it with oem Honda bearings.
Nearly there Bruce 👍🏻 I do hope you kept him well lubed with tea while you filmed this episode 😉
I have always been a little uneasy about handing my bike over to someone else to perform mechanical work. So, I looked pretty hard to find a bike mechanic that I could have confidence in. After watching Ollie in action, I wouldn't hesitate to hand over the keys. I highly recommend to anyone that rides, to learn at least enough mechanical knowledge to double check the condition of your buke when you get it back - at least as far as security of fasteners for any component that will likely result in an accident if it fails, e.g., brake caliper bolts.
I enjoy this rebuild series immensely. She will feel like a brand new bike once its done. Have fun.
Cheers Marc, I’ll need to bring her down to Switzerland to see you again bud 👍
I am not nostalgic, all that dirt and patina may hold memories for you but I would have cleaned that bike thoroughly before asking anyone to work on it. Then the tank and bodywork would be getting repainted and the wheels would be off to the powder coaters. The garage looks mint and the dirty bike is making it look untidy.
Nope, and the garage IS untidy bud 😉🤣👍
Looking forward to seeing the next one now! Amazing how good condition the beast is after all those miles and the abuse it’s received. 👍
I genuinely wouldn't have thought this would have been as an interesting series as it has been, but it's been really compelling viewing. Thanks TossPot...I...er.....autocorrect, sorry.
Cool spannering perhaps a cheap n fresh rear end setup from a breakers
Great videos
Another cracking video!
Thanks Phil 👍
Love this series of video's
Cheers 👍
great vid again both
Thanks Allan 👍
Excellent series TP1, shows how easy and how difficult recommissioning a bike can be. Been watching all the adds too 😉 kerching 💷
Cheers Ron, much appreciated bud, thank you👍
Top man 👍
Enjoying this series immensely. Such a joy to watch. Awesome job so far 🤘🍻
Looking forward to rear linkage!! Great work guys
Have the new neighbours not offered to help? Great stuff!
Howdo Bruce. I have had Calimoto premium before and I clicked your link and I got premium this time for £29.99. Result I'd say 🤙👍😎
Oh, the those Sealey touches are fecking amazing. I have one and love it.
Oh, and the beast is coming along just nicely. Can't wait to see it back on the road but I noticed she's not MOT just yet..... 🤔
Nice one, glad you could make use of the link👍
Aye she’s not mot’d yet as the insurance was ridiculous so I’m binning it off until early in the New Year
Big job that one . 👍
Don’t mean to criticise but man needs to learn how to pack a tapered roller bearing, first thing they taught me during my apprenticeship was how to pack a bearing with grease and they would have cringed watching that.
I was also surprised he didn’t change the wheel bearings just as a matter of course since he had the front end apart, swinging arm bearings are probably due for a change as well I guess if he is doing linkage bearings.
Good job never the less, I just do things like that out of habit mainly because I keep my bikes a long time.
👍👍👍👍
He checked wheel bearings 👍
Loving these vids, great work 👍 can't wait for the rest.
Very satisfying work. Taking some of the fear away from digging in. Thing I'll give my linkages a going over. Whatever happened to grease points for bearings? Excellent video's.
Coming along nicely Bruce. My RE Himalayan failed MOT recently. Head bearings knackered. Himalayan bearings generally don't seem to last that long, perhaps because the bikes get a bit of off roading? It's very therapeutic watching your bike getting some TLC :)
Highly enjoyable content! Great to see a professional at work and I really appreciate him sharing very useful information and knowledge. Subscribed
Thanks very much Yogi, and welcome to the channel 👍
Really satisfying work on the front end. Great to know the bike has new, freshly greased bearings. *Did you talk to the neighbours Bruce? 🤔😁
Ha Ha yes I have, nice folk 👍
Almost like new ;-)
Took me longer than the average human to twig that he is a mobile mechanic.
🤣👍
Good work ! I wonder how many hours in total it was by the end 😅
Cheers Pezza!
Was three full days of work in total👍
Track day, track day????!!! don't be writing checks your ass can't cash.... As we say here in the colonies 😎🥃🥃🥃
There I was flicking the black spot on my tablets screen, turns out to be a spot on the wall below your clock...duh. lol
🤣👍
Did you not put the link to the torch in the description
Apologies I forgot - have added it now. It’s not the exact same one as Ollie, but I’ve bought it and it does the job. Much smaller and comes as a pack of two
@@teapotone Been looking for just such a thing so perfect timing for me. Thanks. And enjoying this series very much.
How are we going with the next instalment of this?
‘We’ haven’t even started editing it yet, will be a month or two 👍
@@teapotoneJust deleted my comment as I asked the same thing 😂
Is there a part 5?
Yep it’s currently being worked on bud, will be a few weeks or so 👍
@@teapotone great! after all that work, gotta see it back on the road.
@@teapotone great! after all that work, gotta see it back on the road.
So those leathers can’t be very good quality if they’ve shrunk just hanging in the garage. 😏
Or… they’ve ridden over 100k miles in temps from 52 to -38 degrees.
Yeah, utter garbage eh
Brilliant Bruce 👍 I love when you talk about the great work done using « we » 😉
