1000 Miles In 24 Hours Motorcycle Ride - RBLR1000 2018

- Опубликовано: 13 июл 2018
- 1000 miles in 24 hours motorcycle ride, how hard can it be? In June I entered the RBLR1000 2018 charity motorcycle ride in aid of the Poppy Appeal, a popular endurance ride undertaken by well over 100 bikes each year.
Having managed to find a few friends (nutcases) who wanted to do the ride with me, we embarked on this grueling feat of long distance motorcycle riding, also known as the Saddlesore 1000, one of the many accredited distance rides set by the Iron Butt Association, IBA.
Starting and finishing at Squires Cafe in Leeds, you have exactly 24 hours to ride a minimum distance of 1,000 miles which must be proved via VAT receipts obtained along your route. This event is an annual ride in aid of the Royal British Legion and their Poppy Appeal, with riders given the option of either heading South to Land's End, or North to Wick in Scotland, with either course being done in a clockwise or anti-clockwise direction.
We chose north-clockwise, sat astride our noble steeds, and hit the throttle. What could go wrong?

====================
I just happened across your video as I was looking at different long rides, especially like this for charity as well as the Iron Butt series here in the states. FIRST of all, GREAT video for the weather, equipment issues, and did I mention being COLD!!! I ride all year here in the states in the midatlantic and lucky to have a great wife who has singlehandedly kitted me out with amazing gear. RARELY do I get cold or wet (yet it DOES HAPPEN!). This goes to my hats off to all you folks in that ride who overcame the wet/cold to complete the ride for a good cause while still filming amazing scenery with a thoughtful, lighthearted, and informative narrative that was so good and SO hard to maintain while wet/freezing cold. The part where you are grabbing a bite to eat and trying with great difficulty to cut/eat your food showed how tenacious you all had to be to continue. Then the "Smash Up" that caused a back track of miles I am sure caused some to drop out and I saw in the comments from CHRIS that he was the one that so unfortunately was involved in that accident and severely injured. t appears he will have a long road ahead but thoughts and prayers for a full recovery!! As an on duty injury breaking my back/neck as a police officer and will never fully recover but still ride as a way to maintain some normalcy. ANYWAY, again this was such a fun video to watch (EXCLUDING THE ACCIDENT). Thank you for doing it and you made great time!!! Hope to see more my friend!!!
Wow bud, thanks very much for your brilliant reply, I’m really glad you enjoyed the vid.
Stay safe brother 👍
Sorry for your detour, I was the guy who was doing it anti-clockwise when a VW Golf decided to pull out on me half way round a corner shattering 3 out of 4 of my limbs and closing the A9 just before Wick!! Once I’ve learnt to walk again I’ll be doing it next year (hopefully to completion)!!!! Well done by the way!
Ah Chris you don’t need to apologise bud, we’re just glad you’re still with us bud!!
Hope your recovery goes smoothly and swiftly mate, and we see you there next year 👍
Chris Plowman hope your back on your feet. 👍
Hope your on the mend Chris , your wife messaged me after watching my video , got the jistbyou were on the mend but didn't really know what happened to you , hope all is going well and may possible see you on it in 2019 , Bri
I got my 1200 Bandit written off by a VW Golf while touring Scotland about 4 years ago. It happened at Port Augustus. It wasn't the same BLIND kid was it?????
Get well soon.
Did you manage to complete it?
Wow a 1000 miles on a Mt-10 Naked bike and a Fireblade through this nice Scottish summer? Respect to this guys 👍
Your riding and recording is some of the best on RUclips. You encapsulate all the fun of riding a motorcycle. Keep up all the spirited riding.
Cracking video TP1, hats off to you all and unbelievable how you managed to sound so enthusiastic in such grim conditions👍 Came across your channel via TMF and now looking forward to viewing many more of your vids. Keep um coming👏👏👏👏
Thanks Neil 👍😉
Great video Bruce, enjoyed it mate. Looks a great challenge and something I think I need to tick off my bucket list one year.
Thanks bud, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Bruce, congrats on leaving the force, clapping you, massive step, new chapter, look forward and close that last chapter.
Awesome Vlog Teapotone. Love the exhaust note of your BMW. AWESOME!!!
Thank you Zarud 👍
I have been watching your videos for a long time and just like to say I really enjoy your content ,this video was absolutely fantastic ,well done with the miles WOW.
Thanks Gazza! Glad you’re enjoying the channel bud, cheers 👍
Nice one Bruce, You have just inspired me again, I'm just getting the bike ready and heading north, Scotland here I come
An education on putting an entertaining video together 👌🏼 Great stuff Mr. T 👍🏼😃👍🏼
Mate love the videos, I’ve been watching them on my way to work in the mornings.
Must take hours of editing!!
I love to catch up with you on an epic. Journey some time twists and mountains!!!
All the best bud ride safe
Thanks Jonny, great to hear you’re enjoying them!
Aye the editing does take a bit of time, but I love what I do so no complaints 😉
I’ll be launching the tour itinerary for 2023 at the end of the month so keep your eyes peeled for that - they tend to sell out fairly quickly.
Cheers
Bruce
Great stuff mate! This is the best channel for capturing the "spirit of riding with your mates". That unique bike culture is impossible for people who don't ride to understand. It's why we nod at each other on the road - love it! Please keep em coming!
Cheers Neil, glad you’re enjoying the channel. You’re absolutely right, it’s a global family we have, just by riding a bike! 😉👍
teapotone Just wanted you to know that I really appreciate all the effort you put into editing these videos. Things like flashing up the name of the tyre when you forget to say it at time of recording - that's great stuff and others don't bother. Love it, makes becoming a Patreon a very easy decision.
Cheers Neil, glad you’re enjoying the channel bud and thanks again for your support 👍
Love it Bruce and can't say I'm sorry I missed it!! Bloody weather 😣😣 great edit as always 👍
Cheers Chops!
Would’ve been great to have you along bud, we’re going for the 1,500 in 24hrs next year so you’ve got to do that one 😉👍
Great vid Bruce, heading up to Scotland in about five weeks to do the NC 500. Proper looking forward to it... Wouldn't mind giving this a go next year, looks like a great challenge mentally and physically.... Well done guys... 👍
Just catching up with some of your great videos
This one I have to say looked and sounded 🥶
Keep up the great work 👌🏼
Ha Ha cheers Steven, yeah it was a tad nippy 😂👍
Great vid 👍 with my first year on a bike complete these trip look great and dying to try one! Keep up the good work.
P.s those gloves look mean!
Ha thanks Scott, they are the Knox Handroids, awesome gloves 👍
Came on a RUclips recommendation, loved the video, will finish watching after work!
Thanks Carl, glad you’re enjoying it bud 👍
WOW really cool. This is the true Tpot let the group go so you can play catch up and you you don't disappoint brilliant riding mate. How times have changed with your newer filmage (year 24) you are the inspiration for living the life 👍
Just subscribed great vid fellow,Scotland truly is one of the most beautiful places on earth
Thanks Daniel I’m glad you enjoyed the vids and welcome to the channel!
Aye Scotland really is a jewel in the British crown 👍
Bloody Brilliant Brucey !
Cheers My Lord 🙇♂️👍
Awesome video and I love your spirits.
Love the way you edit your stuff together, no wonder it takes so long. Entertaining stuff. I've had lots of textile suits over the years but now after all leaked I've spent the cash and got Rukka Armaxis honestly the best, ridden in monsoon type rain and still dry inside. Unlike most other jackets the outer material is waterproof.
Made me smile about the MT10 and fuel stops, I've got one and it gulps the stuff. Stop every 100 miles or push!
Ha Ha, you’re not wrong! Sounds absolutely awesome though 👍
Awesome as always 👍 made a note in my diary for next year👍
ok nobody laugh but yesterday i did a cbt with no experience of bikes before and the guy said yo u have to come back and do the ride better. i sucked at following road rules and lane position coz i used to cycle.
this morning i watched like 3 roadtrips from teapotone to learn correct road position and how to ride around uk roads and then went back for 2 hours and didn't make a fool of myself.
thanks man, this video literally helped me get on my bike riding. start of the rest of my life lol ✌
Ha Ha that’s brilliant to hear Chris, welcome to the biking family bud!
👏👍
Great video Bruce, really enjoyed that. Must be a joy to be back with Helga after the shocker in Morocco.
I like the strategically placed TP1 sticker on the dash, very discreet. I must get one.
All the best.
Ha Ha, it’s multi-functional!
www.teapotone.com
👍
You need a bigger sticker TP1 sticker Bruce - it’s fine up to 99mph but it doesn’t quite cover up the ‘1’ when your stretching Helga’s legs 😂
Top effort, great vid. Love the speedo sticker especially when a 1 pops out on the left hand side 😂
Sshhhhhhh 🤫
It was in Km/hr..... honest 😬😉
love it mate, just found your videos and loving hearing the Scottish accent! some great roads round Glencoe shame about the usual weather, North Coast 500 is a must for beautiful roads up here, never done it on a bike before though! Keep up the great content!
Thanks Adam, aye it’s beautiful up there eh, can get real busy though when the sun’s out 😂👍
Thanks for the memory. The wife and I did it in 2017, just had to battle with 40mph winds. We went anti clockwise to avoid most of the other bikes going clockwise. Hoping to give it another go this year bringing the grandson who will be 13 along for the experience. Well done to all of you who took part.
Thanks Paul, wow what a great experience for your Grandson too 👍
Brilliant video Bruce liking you stuff
Cheers Graham 👍
@@teapotone Watched a video from TMF with you lot in the sunshine and he did a one to one with you and now Im going through all your stuff
First of your videos that I've caught. Super impressed/entertained. Nice to see roads that I'm familiar with on here. Your trip makes my planned NC500 in one hit seem tame...
Cheers Rob and welcome to the channel bud, glad you enjoyed the vid!
Doing the NC500 in one hit is no mean feat, outstanding scenery and some great roads make it an awesome ride.
Enjoy it and stay safe 😉👍
Great video, bought back some good memories. I’ve bought the Rukka Armaxion jacket and trousers, fantastic in all weathers, even Scotland.
Thanks!
Another great video Bruce. Shame about the weather but the scenery is stunning whatever the weather. Got to get up there soon to see it for myself.
Thanks bud, honestly mate Scotland is just a fantastic place to visit and a real biking paradise - just bring your waterproofs! 😉👍
Looks like you had a blast! :D
When I did LEGOG the Green Welly was a god send, I was completely out of oil... poor bike.
When "1" appears in the left of the sticker, we know what it means... :) LOL !!!
Epic Bruce. The 1 video episode was well worth it. I've got Rukka suit and I know a lot have already mentioned it but I would consider the Klim gear also, although just as expensive.
Cheers Chris, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great vid as always mate think i have just about dried out !until next time 😉
How could someone do a video ride-a-long and not enjoy this, giving it a thumbs down? It was GREAT! Thanks for the lift!
Cheers Mark,
Yeah there’s always a few who give vids a thumbs down, I guess you can’t please everyone can you.
Glad you enjoyed it though bud 👍
I like the way you sometimes join the clips together with the 'squeak' of the visor cat. Makes me chuckle each time!! 👍
Ha Ha, strangely hypnotic isn’t it!
Hope you’re keeping well bud, I still have to do the Super Sausage vid too, it’s on the list 👍
teapotone Thanks. Off to France then the Pyrenees on Thursday for 10 days. When I get back your Hex EZ Can's should be here, as our US friends will have landed, so will need to meet up with you and hand them over! 👍
Great stuff bud, thanks.
I’m off to the Pico’s tomorrow until Monday - it’s due to rain there... but only there! 😔
Have a great time and I look forward to meeting up once you’re back 👍
jees, that's well hard-core riding, hats off to you man.
Thanks Andrew 👍
Nice trip... but doing it on a CBR is extra chilling :-). Great clip. Sounded like fun!
Epic ride and all for a good cause! Respect 😮…. Will have to look at signing up for the next one, any excuse to ride all day!!
Was an experience Bruce , good to meet you and a laugh you coming passed only to pass you when you had to stop for fuel, that MT10 😂
Ha Ha, it’s the same every year I do it to be honest, was pretty similar on my GSX-R1000 too!
Can't believe the traffic up there. Good job on the ride considering the poor weather, takes me back to last year when I rode from Los Angeles, CA to Portland, OR via San Francisco. 1063 miles in 17hrs and 55 minutes on my VFR800.
What a beautiful places and views...you have the best adventure bike!!!keep going my friend!!
Thanks Makis 👍
Enjoyed that Bruce - probably a lot more than you guys did riding it by the looks of it....not entirely sure why that's fun, give me 200 miles in a day and a nice warm hotel bed any day - still whatever floats your boat matey!!
Ha Ha, yeah I must admit I much rather prefer your option these days, but I do like to set myself a wee challenge every now and then.
How do you fancy doing the 1,500 Miles in 24hrs with us next year? Be great to have you along 😉
I'm washing my hair that day.....but thanks for asking!
@@teapotone I would go with you If I lived in the UK. Hey Andy, time to man up bud! Why do I say that? .... well when you get to be my age in about 20 yrs, you will wish you had "LIVED YOUR LIFE" !!!
Clearly you are not Scottish. Every Scot loves a good day of gloom and doom:)
@@peterwray4847 SO DOES any cajun here in south Louisiana USA!
Sheer Enjoyment, Thanks for the ride. SMILES
No worries, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for leaving a comment 👍
That was epic. My mate and I did a run around scotland last May for charity, visiting hospital A & E departments, was only just over 500 miles, but we stopped quite alot for sight seeing etc so it took 18 hours, was brilliant. Love the idea of this 1000 mile challenge though, would be amazing 👍. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for doing such a watchable video, thanks. Have been doing way too much commuting and not enough real riding. Should get back up Fort William and Oban a few times before the winter. Proud to be a tattie scone munching lowland Scot. Haven't had hardwired camera system on my bike as I leave it parked up in the city during the day.
Brilliant great to see Squires biker cafe which is 5 mile from where i live, love the place. I'm having a blast up Scotland in August 2021 i can't wait. Brilliant video as always mate 👍p.s I'll be vlogging my trip too
A very nice vid! I’ve always been fond of iron butt type rides. You feel so good knowing how much asphalt you’ve covered. I think I will put together my own 1000miles challenge in the Fall and invite some lads to join. Here’s a recommendation for an all-around awesome suit which can do it all...the Aerostich Roadcrafter suit. I’ve had mine since 1995 and it still keeps me warm, cool & dry. Cheers!
Thanks Jeff, there’s been a lot of people recommending Aerostich kit, I’ll need to check it out 👍
Ha!! Had me laughing in the kitchen just listening to the narration!! Great stuff!!
Absolutely brilliant 👍
Thanks very much 🙇♂️👍
Greetings from the United States! ~ Land of the soccer moms sporting their huge SUVs, to the lifted suspensions of the gigantic, loud, smelly trucks! :) I enjoyed the video and just subscribed. *Cheers* - HS
Well done to all! Was wanting do this but went to Greece instead! on gear, I did the Dragon Rally in February just wore RST jeans and a Held wax short jacket, with base layers and a mid layer on top, with £5 waterproof trousers and a a £5 kagoule over the top and was toastie and dry. You can just vary the layers like walkers do, arrive at places and be in jeans (all be it bike jeans) and a jacket. Keep up the good work!
The was a few moments when the sticker wasn’t big enough 😂. Loving the vids 👍
Enjoyed watching....beats TEXAS easy enough. Never been there, so this was great. I ride a GL1800, which is a couch on two wheels and in all weather. Laughed my ribs sore on your comments. Good job!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it 👍
It’s nearly 3 years you did this (?)
Time flies , eh ?
I hope to do my Iron Butt here in Sweden this year.
Just watched this again……. brilliant Teapot style video…….You have to get back to these style videos of Bruce
👍 thanks for the reminder see you next year
Love the video. First time I have seen the tea pot show. Really nice to see someone not hanging about on there bike . Top job.
Cheers John, glad you enjoyed it bud and welcome to the channel 👍
@@teapotone I did mate . Look forward to catching up with you one day on the road. Mate ride fast but safe.
Hey man, great videos getting me through lockdown however most of your videos are convincing me I need a GS in my life ! Got an MT10 currently. Don’t know if you have got yourself some decent gear yet but whilst in lockdown i have been doing some research on a versatile system and found a good layering combo to get through most conditions. Base layer - Rukka down. Mid - Klim Marrakesh. Top Scott ergo waterproof. My thinking is should be good for highs and lows Scotland has to offer throughout the year ! Keep up the videos maybe join you for a blast sometime 👍
Cheers Mark, glad you’re enjoying the content bud and cheers for the info on the layering 👍
Would recommend Rukka, had mine 4 years never got wet once & that’s including the Scotland trips. Just had a new front zip done on warranty & they loan you a Jacket whilst repairs are being done. Not cheap gear but you get what you pay for, great vid 👍
Thanks bud, yep Rukka will be the way to go for sure 👍
You ride in the rain better than I ride On dry roads. Great video brother.
Ha Ha thanks Jamey 👍
Only recently viewing the back catalogue and came across this ride. I did it too, that year. As my first Iron Butt I took it really steady to pace myself, up to speed limits but not beyond, and by the time I got to where the road had been closed for Bruce it was open again. Got to Wick around 4pm and still got back to Squires Cafe well within the 24hrs. Tortoise and Hare, lol.
I know it all sounds normal to you, but you had me in tears there...
“Great giggle”
“Naughty overtakes”
😂🤣😂🤣
I want to learn how to sound Scottish! Is there a pill?
If you’re ever in San Francisco, give a shout. We also have an Inverness, it’s lovely too (no Loch but we have a bay), with as much glorious riding up and down the Pacific coast as even an Iron Butt could want.
Thanks for the ride along.
Ha Ha, cheers Mark, thanks for your generous offer of hospitality. I’d love to come over one day 👍
for the camera get yourself a couple of power banks ( i can recommend the Anker ones)wire it to the camera, job done, change them when you change the SD cards, fancy doing this ride next year
I‘d like to do this next year... Awesome 👍🏻
Really enjoyed this bud, recognise the roads in Scotland too (I live near the angel of the north too) love to try this one day
Thanks Richie 👍
another great vid Bruce.made my arse sore just watching it lol at the end you say they are mad for doing it on a fire blade and mt10. you went round the world on a gixer thou!!. dont think you have room to talk. lol
Ha Ha, thanks bud
I did the saddle sore 1000 (certified) on my 800 Dragster rr..1065 miles 22hrs. (video inside)..excellent video teapotone!
Thanks Master, and great effort on your SaddleSore too 👍
Another magic trip Bruce. Invest in some Rukka expensive but you'll stay bone dry and warm.
Thanks Gary, aye I should get some Rukka kit but just can’t afford the outlay at the mo.
(Plus once you’ve got the best, it’s harder to make up the excuses about needing new kit to the wife!)
Great ride and entertaining viewing thanks
Thanks Randenne 👍
Been watching many of your videos of late and they are keeping me entertained while working here in Malaysia. I am planning a iron butt ride myself next year, going to ride round Malaysia in the 24hrs to raise some money for my brother-in-law as he has MS and is in need of a all terrain wheel chair. If you have any tips they will be greatly received.
Hi Randenne,
Funny you should ask that, I’m just in the process of beginning a vid which covers exactly that 😉👍
Well done team TP1 - very good riding folks. Anyone else get hypnotised by the gear indicator (or was that just me)
Cheers Stephen 👍
Absolutely stunning drive, done it many a time whilst in the Armed Forces, making our way all the way up to Uig on the top of Skye, before getting a "Cal mac" ferry over to the Hebrides. Looks even better by Bike. Safe journeys.
TOP work lads!!!! I totaly get the riding in group thing, me too like to get a move on, or as i say, i like to get home at a decent time (some story to tell), and if you are alone or if you are riding with some one like you is doable, me personally would never ride a lond trip with some one i don't know. PS i did know the speedo were over reading, especally the japanese one, but i was wondering if the ODO were correct or not... now i know!!!!! Thanks!!! (i'm not joking...)
2023 completed, epic day owe you a beer for introducing me to the RBL R 1000.
Great video Bruce! Got the FW Loch question right too, great holiday there as a family in 85 I think.
Now wondering whether I could do this on my little Duke 390.....ummm.
Course you can! If you can sit at 60/70mph then you can do this no dramas 👍
Cheers Bruce great video I almost forgot that we had all those hours of rain 😂
Ha Ha, I’ve still not dried out yet!!!
👍
fully prepared for next one heated seat as well as grips on my ktm sdgt
3 things in 1 comment coming up....
1st huge respect to everyone that did the journey especially in those conditions.
2nd I concur the A9 between Inverness and Perth is shocking and been destroyed by average speed cameras.
3rd I have given up on Rever tracking app due to various failures on rides meaning some are incomplete and some are way off course for the route travelled.
Cheers for another great vid pal.
Concise, accurate and to the point.
Excellent radio procedure Minion 😉👍
That’s was a trek and a half , looked bloody awesome , pitty about the rain , love the sticker over your speedo , were you guys the first to arrive back at the finish ? , brilliant video as always , loved it
Thanks Craig,
No mate there were a few others ahead of us, we stopped a lot for fuel and had some long breaks off the bike as we were so cold and wet!
Looks brutal that mate. Sign me up for next year!
Ha Ha, you’re welcome to come along with us bud 👍
Hardcore - hat off to you 👍
Hey Bruce. I'd love to ride Scotland. And I will do some this year with my bro in July, hopefully. When I first started driving in 2000 I drove up in an old A reg Polo and back then there was none of this satnav equipment we get now, I did it the old way using a map. Anyhow, I planned my journey from sunny Croydon to Aberchirder and got confused on the night taking the A9 instead of A90 at Perth. I'm glad I did because it was a fine foggy morning and the views wee spectacular.
Next time you find yourself heading up along Loch Ness, try the B roads on the south side.
I got a chance to go on the ride out with Highland Classic Bike Rally in June and found the A road was full of campervans and not enough overtake spots, the B roads were FANTASTIC, great surface, fast corners and almost empty!
Wow thanks Neil, I’ve never tried them so will make sure I give it a go next time I’m up that way 👍
Another cracking view Bruce. We did unfortunately get that gash show the High Road or what ever it was called. I’ve been to the wee village a few times. You should do one next summer and get all your subscribers to join in. All the best.
Aye well I think there were a few on this one, but a lot of folk just did it at their own pace or in their own groups, which is fair enough.
Be good to get a good crowd doing it next year, I’ve been told their numbers were a bit down this year.
Did look quite quiet down at Squires. Usually heaving and especially for something like this. I’d be up for joining in next year. Only down he road from Squires as well. Just need to get a bike sorted after mine was nicked! All the best.
Ah sorry to hear that Andy, hope you get it sorted soon 👍
Was Take the High Road filmed in Luss as well? Sure it is can’t remember. Great vid as usual pal, I love having they roads on my door step.
Love to watch your videos!! Watching from Bangladesh ❤️
Thanks Fahim, glad you are enjoying the channel 👍
Bruce thanks for your Video in these horrid times I watch your travel vids and brings back memories of my Gs same roads mis my big Beemer
Cheers Keet 👍
That beard tpone is going to need it's own lid soon.😂😂 nice vid good watch. Keep it up buddy..
Thanks Mac 👍
Greetings from Pittsburgh, Pa, USA. Loved the Morocco trip and this one, great videos. Heated vest and pants are one option or you can check out some outdoor adventure stores for tech wear for layering, both work great.
Thanks Bogey Master 👍
I'd recommend KLIM gear. Expensive but good quality, comfortable and perfect if you want one jacket and trousers for year round use!! Badlands is great, but also check out the Carlsbad!
1050 miles in 18 hours twice one day apart. Orlando to Houston and back. Good memories
"Some people really do grit my poop!" - Teapot 2021 😂
You have a cool channel I subbed as well ride safe my friend
Cheers Shadow! Glad you like the channel and thanks very much for your support 👍
Cant wait, 11 days to go :-)
Great video Bruce. As you said the scenery was great shame about the whether. You need to come to Wales for some great roads for riding and scenery.
Cheers Lyn, aye I’ve done Wales a few times now, beautiful place 👍
awesome trip love the video
Thanks Josua 👍
A9 Average speed cameras start at Stirling. Great video and an event I must do. Also, wear cycling gear under you motorbike gear, may look a little 'girly' but it keeps you warmer and the padding helps with the seat! :)
Definitely missed Scotland after watching this...not the rain though. Rode the west coast of Scotland roads all my life...some of the best in the world. Although New Zealand was pretty close! Definitely need to get back to Loch Lomond soon! Love all those Scottish phrases you are using! Proclaimers...song....well....anyways great vid!
