Most, if not all, of these stories talk about shock wave in space from an explosion. There could be shrapnel, pieces of the destroyed enemy ship, but no shock wave is possible in a vacuum. Seems some research is needed by the authors of these stories.

Shock waves will happen in a vacuum as some expanding force is there; supplied by the explosive materials, I would think.
