Way back in the day while crossing our great nation on an old Harley, I saw a sign said Blondie live. I said to myself, what's a blondie. So, I got a ticket, 6 bucks and went in. Fell in love that day. Debbie Harry commands a great band with that fantastic voice and perfect looks. Been a fan since that day. At 67, I still crank it up here. Oh, still riding daily too. lol

I found out fairly recently that Debbie is actually the same age as my mother. Now my mother was a mighty fine looking woman in her 20s and 30s - but her dress sense made her look at least 10 years older than Debbie Harry.

And she had over a decade of singing experience by this point. Most folks forget that she was 5 years older than Chris (Stein) and 9 years older than most of the rest of the band. She had started in the late 1960s singing back-up in the folk-rock act Wind in the Willows.

What about for example Stevie Nicks? She was great live too. Well, I know that she had failed concerts like Red Rocks because of her tough drug/ alcohol addictons but in spite of it she still had many great live performances as well and I think I prefer her live singing to studio recordings ❤ The same with Linda Ronstadt and Janis Joplin (also an addict one but with many well done live performances) or Wanda Jackson or Ann Wilson or Tina Turner ❤ And of course DEBBIE HARRY ❤❤❤ She is magnificent live plus her distinctive voice ❤ Debbie's status of icon is no fluke ❤ ✌️

The reproduction rate among intelligent western women is the lowest in the World. And one sees so many relatively incompetent, less intelligent making babies without shame. A great exhilarating live band no question, but among the LEAST revolutionary on the Bowery scene - sonically anyway.
That honor goes to the quartet of guys who built the stage riser just to get their gig at CBGB in 1974 - Television.
Countlesss indie bands that followed over the next decade - from Echo and the Bunnymen to REM to U2 to XTC have acknowledged their debt to Verlaine(RIP , Tom) , Lloyd, Ficca and Smith

@@chriscoughlin9289 I agree that these bands that followed had great input into the industry and I'm a mark for everyone you mentioned. But let's get one straight from the get go, Television definitely yes founder members of the CBGB success story. Without let's say 15/20 of the early acts hilly crystal fails.
He hit lightning in a bottle only ever matched by the cavern in Liverpool.
The bands that followed were then playing an established venue, record labels would push to get acts on at CBGBs.
So yep many many fine acts have played the venue.
But the founding members are all in the revolution club for mine.

      By what metric?
Doug Weston's Troubadour - or maybe The Whisky? The Golden Bear?
Armadillo World Headquarters - or maybe Antone's?
      Bill Graham's Fillmore empire?
      The Mabuhay?
      Max's???
Have a look at those legendaty names - at how high you have to struggle to set the bar to even be making your case for that brand of 'failure'?
      Sorry, but no sale.
I was a denizen of the LA punk scene of the same era and - apart from Brendan Mullen's Masque - really no place there could lay claim to being ground zero in the same way that CB's was.
Madame Wong's, The Starwood, The Palomino, The Fleetwood (Redondo)?
They all made their distinctive mark on the scene...
once there already WAS a scene to glom onto.
      Hilly?
Nowhere else can lay claim to having laid that kind of cornerstone in the mythology of the punk era.

Like a rocket to the ocean!!!! One of many classic lines, in 11:59 a song of sublime raw musical magic created by this band. Debbie knew how to work her looks for sure but boy could she back it up when singing, very few since have had that raw edged ability or genuine talent. No auto tune, or electronic help. If only there were more like her now the music industry would be a much more interesting proposition all round. Parallel Lines must be high on most music lovers top 100 album lists?
