What a beautiful release. That’s hilarious the reverse cover on the first is just a screenshot from when Conan is praying to Krum. I think you’ll enjoy those movies DJ. The first is definitely grittier fantasy and then the second is very comic booky and silly. But they’re both a ton of fun.
Didn’t Gerry Conway and Roy Thomas have story credit for Destroyer? That certainly makes me excited to check it out, even if its production isn’t likely to live up to a comic book writer’s imagination.
@@ConnerNielsen6 yes they do. It’s been awhile since I’ve looked into it but I want to say it’s a Robocop 2 situation where they write it and then it gets rewritten.
@@TheDayGhostoh, I see. That’s kind of a shame. Especially since they wrote the Marvel Conan title if I’m not mistaken.
@@ConnerNielsen6 they did. That’s why they were brought on. I think the first movie gets made because of the property getting reinvigorated popularity from the comics. But Dan would know better haha
Bought the set, just watched both films. Quite an upgrade as someone who had these on VHS, DVD, Bluray. It’s a fun double feature.
Awesome. Glad to here the transfer looks good. I’m having some friends over tomorrow night to watch the first one. I don’t know if we’ll have time to watch the sequel or not.

I liked it when I was a kid. Can’t imagine the last time I thought, “Man, I really wanna watch Conan the barbarian right now.”

I hope we get this in the UK here it looks a great set of Conan 1 and 2 in 4k.
The art cards look like theatre lobby cards. Dolls is already out in the Empire box set.
One of the big what-if's in cinema. Conan should have been a much bigger series of movies. Like James Bond, or Zatoichi. If Schwarzenegger hadn't become a big star after Terminator, and he hadn't been tricked by Dino DeLaurentis into a much bigger role than he thought in Red Sonja (it was supposed to be a cameo), Conan would have been an even bigger deal in the 80s. The Destroyer started to take things into a farce which didn't help either. We're still waiting for a worthy re-adaptation.
I totally agree. At the very least he deserved a full trilogy at the quality level of the first film.
I picked up Barbarella and Conan. Thinking of getting The Warriors and Deep Red as well.
I grabbed both of those. Well worth it.
Can't watch anything with Hanoi Jane anymore.

I just bought the set yesterday (online) and I do hope it's worth the purchase. Kind of a strange choice to put artwork on the insert and not be able to see it.
Yeah I actually prefer the clear cases to the black. I wish they would use those across the board like criterion does
I got the bluray set yesterday. Got it for $20 from Walmart after gift card. Can’t wait to dig in! That font in the book is tiny. I am getting old!
It's a cool looking set that is certainly more eye catching and I believe $15 cheaper than buying the movies separately. I got the separate movies only because I want the original poster art front and center.

The Conan sets will without a doubt be long gone by the next sale my friend. They're selling out now. Most likely gone by end of February
@@michaeldubois6405 I figured they would be a hot seller. The Warriors is a favorite of all time so I had to go with that. A standard Conan will provide. The box for double 4k is so nice
He just bought it to show it off for the sake of content creation. He's easily going to forget about it. Anybody can be a collector, not everyone does it for the same reasons. Total complete poseur

He isn't the only content creator with the "show off new boutique releases of films that they never seen or aren't even fans of". It's pretty much an Arrow commercial featuring packaging only, w/o a review or a comparison to the previous format. You could tell what type of "movie" collector he is just by the rainbow display of media behind him. Lol
He can try to make a living off RUclips, but I won't support or subscribe to anyone like that. People like you can go ahead and do that. People with short attention spans that have no idea what they're defending
I am still shocked that they were on sale being brand new releases. I pre-ordered mine months ago right after they announced them and paid $83 for them (I ordered them individually, I preferred them over the Chronicles set). They are gorgeous sets and recommend to anyone to pick up while on sale.
Amazon price match everything. Even preordered stuff.

Arrow have done an amazing job with this limited release, and it looks great on your Blu Ray shelf, I’m yet to get my copy, do you know when there’ll be the next Criterion new releases announcement?
I think they usually announce Criterion releases on the 15th of the month

Still waiting for Amazon to ship mine. Absolutely love the 1st movie as it's one of the best sword & sorcery movie ever made. 2nd movie not so great but cheesy fun. I'm actually rather disappointed that the set does not include the standard Blu-ray discs as well.

I think what I heard was they didn't have the rights to make new cover art for these movies which is why it's just a big picture of Arnold instead of different artwork.

Only if you want to beat off to glistening muscles. It's crazy how many people never seen those films, yet all of a sudden interested once released in 4K. He didn't even compare the Blu ray sound/video to the original, wtf? He didn't even read the damn book that it came with. Some fan, right? He's just showing off a pretty box to add to his collection of movies he doesn't give AF about, unless it's a boutique edition that fits in his rainbow display of disc behind him. If I really cared about the art cards, I'd be collecting bubble gum cards. It's not like I'm going to display any of them.
You’re right. You can only buy movies if you’ve previously seen them and are a fan of them. No one is allowed to blind buy something or watch new films.

Watching this channel I learned that the reviewer is a huge fan of fantasy but has never seen Conan. And has not bothered to watch it before posting a video about it. Color me impressed: what an authority! He also likes to delete comments that make fun of people who rag on the source material. Meanwhile we have gems from one commenter who claims that the movie is “childish.” Right because a faithful (in spirit) adaptation from Robert Howard’s violent exotic ‘30s pulp fiction screams infantile. As does the pervasive Nietzschean philosophy of self overcoming and embracing suffering.
lol it's a lousy movie I get people who saw it in the 80s overrated it since there was no options.

@@sonofacheron Why not? Special effects and CGI have improved . 20 years ago you may have had a point when CGI was bad, but today they can do anything with green screen and digital technology.

I feel like the second one is a much better movie. It's not really any more campy, just less naked ladies. Despite the boobies, the first one is pretty boring with a paper thin plot.
I think it's the type of movie that only works when we are children. Like goonies. I'm not buying it.
They are also fun to rewatch with adults who have never seen them
i agree with you on Goonies, but i watched both Conan films again just maybe a month ago on Netflix and still really enjoyed them.
