This video will be a real eureka moment for people that didn’t know about this label.
Hi DJ! I love your channel! But more videos with Grace? For example the anticipated video about the family friendly movies in the Criterion Collection? Just in general it would be nice see her in more videos, you two have a great chemistry! Also more videos with John and Connor when it's possible! I am waiting for the winter edition of your specials with John, please don't skip this season 😅
I am mot saying that the video in which you are by your own are not worth watching DJ, I love them! But the videos with Grace and Connor and John are also a lot of fun, because all of you have a great sense of humor. I really enjoy them!
Please keep up the good work DJ! Cheers!
Can’t believe I just found your channel! Subbed and love your collection
I'd recommend the follwoing from Eureka: The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Kwaidan, The Man Who Laughs, Ace in the Hole, Wake in Fright, Onibaba, M, Repo Man and Harakiri
Most of these have already been released by Criterion in the US but yeah, for Region B exclusive folks these are great releases.
I'll add 'The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes', 'Faust' and 'The Lost Weekend'
Hello, DJ. Nice looking sets. You've convinced me to get another label. I have always admired the MASTERS OF CINEMA line, so I'll be nice to actually get the discs here. I hope they continue to strongly release truly classic world-wide cinema and fall in niche cinema. So DJ, I'll says THANKS, specially to you for bringing me on board, although I admit, there was no serious arm-twisting going on!
Sunrise is a legitimate contender for greatest film ever made. Murnau influenced so many of his contemporaries, Ford, Hawks, Hitchcock, Ophuls, some of the Russians. Ford whose style was very different from Murnau even made films in his style for a period like Four Sons, Hangman’s House and Mother Machree which unfortunately only survived in pieces. There’s a tracking shot early in Scarface where you see Hawks under his influence.
I love Eureka's Masters of Cinema line. My recent faves are the Touch of Evil 4k box set and the Andrzej Zulawski box set. I think both are OOP.
Touch of Evil is still in print at time of writing this reply (13 Feb). The Zuławski set has gone, but the two discs it comprises are due for seperate reissue at the end of this month.
I have the caligari boxset, it's so nice. Almost picked up touch of evil as well, but I already had the Kino version. That's great to here about their venture into the US market, can't wait to see what they release here!
I just looked up that Touch of Evil release. It looks Awesome! Do you recommend that one or the Kino one?
You probably saw it already, but yesterday Eureka announced they are doing the silent version of The Cat and the Canary as well.
Thanks for the heads up. I just checked out the pre-order page. Looks like another awesome release! Have you seen the film?
@FilmsByColor no. I had a copy on vhs a while back but it wasn't very good quality, so I held out for a better one.
I have sunrise for years, it's exactly the same edition! I love Pandora Box, but it's region B, right?
Yep, Pandora's Box is region B. So you gotta have a way to play region B stuff.
@@FilmsByColor such a shame, DJ! My South american blu ray player is region A. Louise Brooks performance in this film is decades ahead of its time!
You make a Helluva an argument Spider-Man, these look sick.
Haha! Do you collect Physical Media, Jeffery? I don't think I've ever actually asked you that
@@FilmsByColor in various forms, not to a major extent
@FilmsByColor Outside of Criterion, I've started smaller collections of Arrow & Kino Lorber. Also, have a mini vhs collection, watched The Eagle Has Landed (1976) earlier today on vhs.
Uau!❤
They just announced that they’re expanding to North America soon. Should be easier to get their release now without having to import.
I know them mostly from their HK action releases. They put out great stuff
Yep. That's why I put this video out. I'm looking forward to seeing what North American releases they put out. Which of their Hong Kong action releases would you recommend?
This was uploaded the day after the Janus Films RUclips channel uploaded a trailer for Pandora's Box. Coincidence?!
Yes.
I know!! I saw that yesterday after I had already finished this video. That almost certainly means Criterion will be releasing a 4k soon. I have the absolute worst timing when it comes to 4K upgrade releases.
