Sorry Ken. I like your show, and the good intentions behind your messages. But you’re wrong on this one, and not a very constructive way to help your audience. I can confirm the ghost jobs out there, as recruiters have admitted to be that many job postings were not actual jobs. I also host my own podcast and discuss the industry of motion design, and studio owners and freelancers can all confirm that projects have been getting canceled and bookings cancelled due to budgets being cut and layoffs affecting business relationships. Nothing new to the business landscape, but there has absolutely been a huge slow down over the past year in our field. Regarding “the data”… You shouldn’t blindly read stats and assume everything is “good”. What jobs are being counted? What income do those jobs bring? You should elaborate and shed light on the ACTUAL data before calling your audience “lazy”. I have peers with stellar resumes / portfolios that have worked at all the major studios and tech companies… And they are struggling to find work. So don’t follow “the data”. Ask your audience what their everyday looks like before just throwing out a blanket statement.
I can vouch for this. I work in staffing and have see multiple industries such as manufacturing are in hiring freezes or cutting back on work Ken, like Dave Ramsey, is out of touch with mainstream workers. He has a relatively safe job that pays well so he doesn't know what it's like for people who don't have job stability or are in industries at risk or layoff. Him reading "data" from the government when it's being manipulated is disingenuous, especially ad most of the jobs are either part-time, or go to industries which don't generate wealth, namely government, healthcare, and social services.
There are jobs in blue states in teaching, nursing, the trades, engineering, the arts, cybersecurity, registered veterinary technology, etc, etc. There are lots of city, county and state jobs as well. People need to retrain.
This is what I run into! There are a lot of job postings that are scams or mlms. It’s hard to filter out the noise. And some of us don’t have the resources to go to reputable job sites that are legit and not flooded with scams. When I do find job postings that are legitimate, they are asking for people with 5+ years of experience. I graduated from university a year ago. This entire year I have not been successful. I keep trying though. Maybe one company that is legitimate and not a scam that is willing to hire new graduates and want to train employees will hire me. Who knows?
I've been a truck driver for 12 years, I've NEVER had such an incredibly difficult time trying to get a job that doesn't suck, I've had multiple interviewers tell me that I'm competing with over 100 people with similar experience every time I interview because of other companies going bankrupt. The job market is fucking horrible for everyone trying to get a job right now.
200 applicants at the local dollar store where you'll get 40 hours a month on minimum wage working as the only employee in the building and they want you to be bilingual.
People need to retrain. There are short term training programs in phlebotomy and pharmacy tech and longer term training in other fields. People need to set their sights higher
@fremontpathfinder8463 I am a certified pharmacy tech. Don't want to work overnights in North Philadelphia in a building full of drugs. Besides, it paid about as much as Macy's, but if I put the wrong shirt on the wrong rack, nobody dies.
I've been unemployed for 11 months. I just interviewed and was told I don't have the right experience. I have 10 years in the field with a PMP certification. This market is crap.
The job market is terrible! My son and his girlfriend both lost their jobs that they had for years when Rite Aid closed. They cannot get a job to save their souls. They have applied to tons and tons of jobs, even part time jobs, and completely ghosted. They won't respond to calls or emails. Just dead silence. They are about to lose their apartment as they have been burning through their savings. They are extending their reach to other places but so far not even an interview. So, tell me again how good the job market is. Also, I am 66 years old, and I have had a few jobs. Yes, I had to apply at multiple locations, but it never took me long to get an interview and a job. Completely different from now. It's also very unprofessional for companies to not have at least some response to an applicant. Even if it's just a small email or text.
I am 200+ applications in. Nothing yet. Seriously considering reducing my credentials on my resume to try to get a job beneath me. I just want to work again.
look into getting a federal government job. they look at experience, the more relevant experience to the position the more the pay (coming from an HR Assistant in recruitment with the VA)
That's the problem. You need to narrow your job search and personalize the resume and cover letter to each job. Leave off things like " honest, hard worker, creative." Your resume will go in the trash if you do that. Highlight what you have accomplished at each job. Consider city, county and state jobs as well as school district jobs.
I say the job market sucks because it sucks for me. It sucks for a lot of people. Throw in ghost jobs, ageism, and employers wanting to lowball us, and the suckage is palpable.
Does anyone actually believe the government data? We know inflation is vastly more than they claim and every single time they release unemployment numbers they have to adjust it later showing fewer jobs available. Next question is what kinds of jobs are available? Many people are forced to work multiple jobs just to pay for basics so when many have multiple jobs, it skews the numbers as well.
@@maddy-zzz So having a job does not remove that job from the numbers? Seems logical to me that any job that is filled makes the overall number lower, so the fact that many are working multiple jobs would impact the overall rate.
@@maddy-zzzIt does skew the amount of active/new jobs. When new hires are increasing but active labor pool is staying the same... That is showing thst people are getting multiple jobs.
@@maddy-zzz yes they do skew. If you take a part time role it counts as another job created. If you get laid off and take 3 part time jobs to make ends meet it counts as 2 jobs created. That shows a tighter labor market. That is a lie. Also if the only jobs in 2022 were minimum wage unfilled but people have to take it then that counts as jobs filled and a lower unemployment rate. Overall it is a weaker not stronger market
I'm sorry, but as someone who has applied to dozens of jobs over the last few months, I've still come up empty handed. I've reached out to employees of the companies I'm interested in and hardly get any replies for simply asking to connect and chat - not even asking for a referral. I think this video over simplifies the reality that people in the Tech industry are going through. Yes, it's extremely competitive right now, and people are competing. So I'm not sure where this assumption is coming from that people aren't competing.
Worth pointing out that the unemployment rate only counts people in their first few months of being unemployed. Everyone past that time frame isn't counted. I forget the exact time frame, but I know it's between 6 months and 2 years.
I know my state only counts the people getting unemployment checks as being unemployed. Everyone else that doesn't have a job isn't counted. Those checks only last for six months so.
If Indeed isn’t lying about the numbers. The jobs I have applied for all have 50+ applicants and many even have 100+ applicants. Theres no way any of these companies properly screen all of those applicants
Is this supposed to be about now on planet Earth? I think this has been the absolute hardest time I've ever had time to find work. Previously, I have not experienced difficulty even remotely similar to what I am now trying to secure gainful employment. Clearly what I am/am not doing or is not working.
I am educated. I have a Bachelors Degree in Finance and I am a certified Illinois teacher with 5 endorsements and I am a certified paralegal and certified abstractor and a Florida Notary. I live in the suburbs of Orlando, Florida. I am seeking a job and I receive email rejections at 1am and 2am and do not find that to be very professional.
You need to move back to Illinois and teach. Don't teach in Florida. The pay is low. However, did you transfer your credentials to Florida before seeking a teaching job there? Consider city, county and state jobs.
Update, finally got a job and started about a week ago but I applied to nearly 500 jobs with a few interviews…most of which led to nothing. Finally working again albeit for a bit less salary before and no longer remote…grateful none the less but it’s hard out here. Wish you all the best in your job search.
Update, that job I got laid me off after 2 months stating they no longer had the budget to fund such a sizable department and laid off 2 other colleagues I worked alongside. Back in the job hunt for over a month with only a couple of interviews scheduled. The struggle is real…
2 very important things to consider before you call people liars, what is "empolyment" and what is "finding a job" I have been technically employed for 3 years 1 is a minimum wage ($7.25 /hr) job and one was a job you were paid per minute on the phone (no one calls for hours, no money for that day) so if I'm showing up as employed in these stats then it looks great. But I will tell you I cant find a job because im looking for a job that pays at least 20k yearly and cant find one.
The job market in my area is terrible. Employers don’t want or pay much for positions that are very stressful and have lots of responsibility. I’ve seen accountants listed at $15 an hour in my market. No way when the job is insanely detail oriented and the degree for accounting costs $40k minimum.
This content creator is off the mark , its very bad. Companies are being hard hit by AI and the incoming recession. Inflation is extremely high, people can't afford their rents and mortgages . Excessive insurance hikes, utilities but the people are complaining. His assessment is a joke . Companies are paying less and requiring more .
I worked 7.5 years for Westcor Land and Title Insurance and was laid off on 9/26/22. I collected unemployment for 9 weeks. I got a contract job for 6 months. I was unemployed again from June to August 2023. I got a new job in August of 2023. Then I got laid off on 10/23/23 and unable to collect unemployment because benefits ran out .
So you list legitimate info on challenges job seekers face but then turn around and we aren't being competitive. How do we know if we are applying to a fake or old job posting while wasting our time????? Thank God you don't have to look for one.

Ken, i love your show. But this entire segment was a bit out of touch. The job market is actually tightening up. Despite what the government data says, it has become harder to find a decent paying full time job. Lots, of ghost jobs sre being posted and their is an uptick in layoffs. In my area, restaurants have been closing and so have some bank branches. Some in the higher tiers may not feel it as bad or even notice these issues in the same way many blue collar fields do.
I work for a drug testing company. We do drug testing for thousands of employers across the country. Even we've had layoffs as business has slowed down. I don't know what data he's talking about.
Data doesn't get me a job nor anyone else? Your data is lying and REAL people can't find jobs. I have 15 years of experience in IT and can't get a job....so that tells a intelligent person two things one is they are not actually hiring for these positions they just have the job opening and are not filling it. Or because of massive layoffs the competition is high but that indicates that job availability is decreasing.
Bullshit every shop I apply to wants 5 years of top quality experience for $20 an hour. I’m making 27 an hour right now with 1.5 years experience. I’m sadly locked into my job that I do not like.
Questions: 1) How many of those jobs have been on the market longer than 3 months? How many applicants how been screened? 2) What is the high, low, and average of said job(s)? 3) Of the people that are employed how many are working multiple jobs? 4) The jobs that were "created" has anyone verified that these are real openings, or is these postings used to create a company pipeline? 5) If the Job market is a strong as you say, it should go w/o saying that Biden and his cabinet will be reelected, right?
There is a massive amount of double counting with people being forced to work multiple part time jobs to support themselves and there is actually currently no system for the government to track how many people work 3 jobs because the maximum you can indicate is two. Now imagine how many “new jobs” and how many “employed” people are now lumped into these stats where they’re living in crummy studios, exhausted, and not advancing any career (and obviously having little to no savings).
The real issue is the government reporting. They're reporting 3.5% unemployment, which reflects people who are looking for work in the past 3 months. Thereafter, the reporting stops for that individual. Also, self-employed 1099 workers are not considered. Bottom line - their report is skewed.
Job market does not equal recession. It is lagging indicator after a recession has already started. When the recession already starts is when we found out after the layoffs have started. Likewise during a boom employers lag creating jobs unless they have too. Where I work we have a hiring freeze but all but the most essential roles which are just refills. My brothers company had 2 rounds of layoffs and got rid of bonuses. My Linked In has become quiet and only temp contract roles paying less than what I make occasionally contact me. I see it. So do others. 6 months from now we will see the real numbers of layoffs and be officially be in a recession
My family member has worked at Altria (Phillip Morris) for over 20 years. Great pay, benefits, he enjoys his job. He said the company told him there is a hiring freeze during all of 2024! If a huge company that produces addictive products like cigarettes, vapes, and alcohol is no longer hiring (items that people will continue to use in hard times) what does that say about the job market we are heading into.
It all depends on what job sector you're referring to. Perhaps the job market is great in hospitality or the service industry, but if you're in tech. or a tenured business development type of role, good luck landing something. There's more competition than ever trying to land a role. Also, employers are making candidates jump through a bunch of hoops these days.
Try looking for a job sir, then talk. You go by numbers regurgitated by those whose interest is to make them look good. There is a disconnect between the numbers thrown around and what people experience. Talking about disinfo...riiight
It's ok depending on industry but not like it was during the pandemic years so younger workers don't remember how to get a job in 2018-1 9 or what it was like in 2008-201 0 right now I'm in the transportation industry and it's not great we will only hire secelet people right now
He actually believes their are 3 jobs for every 1 job seeker available lol thats why no one csn find a job right now after putting out 2000+ applications Sigh....more gaslighting
Service and low level manufacturing and janitorial is the norm. Unless you have the means and money to get an education in tech. Or computers. You are screwed. The economy added more crap jobs that immigrants wont even work. Easy to talk about on your side, however try and get one in broadcssting and tell me how it works out.
I wouldn't be looking at tech anymore. A lot of tech based industries are starting to lose money. And API access for start ups is being cut off by the major players in the tech. So creating a new app is about impossible without giving your idea to big tech or them taking most of the money from it.
This is one of the most unintelligent RUclips videos about the job market ever. Don't waste your time watching it. It's seven minutes of aimless rambling with no statistics or logical arguments.

I can't get hired because I am lazy and dumb.
Ive never had an issue untill this past year now i dont even get spoken to
PayPal laid off 2,500 employees
My family member has worked at Altria (Phillip Morris) for over 20 years. Great pay, benefits, he enjoys his job. He said the company told him there is a hiring freeze during all of 2024!
If a huge company that produces addictive products like cigarettes, vapes, and alcohol is no longer hiring (items that people will continue to use in hard times) what does that say about the job market we are heading into.
100% much more telling data than cooked government stats. These are products that are recession proof.
You straight up wrong
Brother unemployment runs out.
If the job market so bad, why is the airline industry doing so good? We are having record numbers from mostly jobless people flying for pleasure?
It's ok depending on industry but not like it was during the pandemic years so younger workers don't remember how to get a job in 2018-1
9 or what it was like in 2008-201
0 right now I'm in the transportation industry and it's not great we will only hire secelet people right now
He actually believes their are 3 jobs for every 1 job seeker available lol thats why no one csn find a job right now after putting out 2000+ applications
Sigh....more gaslighting
The job market has always sucked❤
Lol such msm gaslighting nonsense. Can't believe how uninformed this guy is.
Coming from someone who is actively employed
Service and low level manufacturing and janitorial is the norm. Unless you have the means and money to get an education in tech. Or computers. You are screwed. The economy added more crap jobs that immigrants wont even work. Easy to talk about on your side, however try and get one in broadcssting and tell me how it works out.
I wouldn't be looking at tech anymore. A lot of tech based industries are starting to lose money. And API access for start ups is being cut off by the major players in the tech. So creating a new app is about impossible without giving your idea to big tech or them taking most of the money from it.
I worked 6 years for Comcast Cable and was sexually harassed and forced to watch porn in the call center office
Comcast sucked so bad they had to change their name / branding to Xfinity.
This is one of the most unintelligent RUclips videos about the job market ever. Don't waste your time watching it. It's seven minutes of aimless rambling with no statistics or logical arguments.
Ken, at 0:50, you can start calling it ex-Twitter !!!
How can someone be so off the mark?
Please interview me and see how hard my life has been
Ken doesn't want that. It would ruin the fantasy world that he maintains on RUclips.
My story is sensational
Fox News needs to interview me
Bullshit
This guy is clueless. How does he even receive airtime?
You are right....tons of jobs out there.
But what kind of jobs? Ones that actually pay a living wage? You need to give a little more information.
@@creeper2054even ones that don’t pay a living wage are very difficult to get.
