I love this version the arrangement, and it plays beautifully to the story of who she is giving tribute to but there’s nothing like Angelina and orchestra. I can’t wait for her to do something with a chorus. I think she could do something marvelous like with hallelujah the story behind your outfit, and her headband is in a longer video, butI love this version. YO! Great reaction, Michael. And the answer to your question is that YES, she improves even further over the next 7 months (this recording is 7 months old now). If you go to her Vegas shows, the difference is 3 months 18 days. I AM tempted to ask you to react to her VERY most recent one, called "Bad Valentine", which she wrote together with Toby Gad, the man who wrote "All Of Me" by John Legend, "If I Were A Boy" made famous by Beyoncé, "Big Girls Don't Cry" by Fergie and "Skyscraper" by Demi Lovato, just to name a few. The two have also made a recording of "If I Were A Boy" which you should check out some time. But "Bad Valentine" is an original, and in it she shows you the range that she REALLY has if she wants to or needs to. Crazy good. The official recording of it will come in September I believe, but there is an extremely good live performance of it from May 16th, performed on an intimate stage in front of a few select people. On the same stage that Adele was discovered as well 🙂 You will find the recording on the channel of James Thiel. It must have been heart wrenching for the two adult children of the woman in the Iranian prison hearing this song performed in honour of their dear mother. Young Miss Jordan offers this song with class, tenderness and the greatest of humility.

How many of today’s stars have all the qualities that Angelina has and can do everything she can do? Her amazing low register, her head voice, belting, vocal fry, her breathy voice, her vibrato, her emotion, her storytelling, her seamless transitions between her different techniques. And she has been able to do a lot of this since she was very young. It just keeps getting better and more refined There are a lot of very good and successful singers out there who can do a lot of this stuff, but how many can do all of this and to the level of Angelina? The unfortunate thing is a lot of music listeners and in particular younger listeners don’t pick up on this or it’s not as important to them as the song itself. What matters is the beat and a song that resonates with them. I think Angelina’s original music can resonate with an expanding audience who will eventually pick up on what an amazing vocalist she really is. That could only happen if she is out there and new potential fans hear her and see her. Will she be a big star? We all feel that she certainly has the talent to be one of the biggest ever but there are so many factors that lead to that if that’s what she wants. Strategic promotion is a big key,

The two orchestra's sounded very well together, didn't they? The orchestra which was seated (except for the one gentleman in the back making those booming sounds) was marvelous and the other orchestra wrapped up in the body of a single individual was magnificent as well. Angelina is wonderful singing next to a guitar player, or a piano player, or a small band, or a full orchestra or even in a parking garage by herself getting ready to go somewhere. Listening to her is so mesmerizing it is impossible to catch everything she is doing with her instrument, a voice for the ages, and each time you listen to the same song you can pick up something you missed the time before. She is always so comfortable, so confident, because she is singing 'for us', not only to us. When she looks at the camera she looks right through it straight into our hearts. Many artists seek the same results but unless their feelings are genuine the audience doesn't feel it. The aura of love surrounding Angelina even when she is just walking into a room is so captivating many people begin to tear up just at the sight of her. And that soulfulness in her voice latches onto our hearts and she takes us, willingly, into her world when she begins to sing. Magic? To Angelina it's just being natural.

FYI one of Angelina’s songs will appear in the upcoming Netflix move A Family Affair that premieres June 28. It stars Nicole Kidman, Zac Efron and Kathy Bates. Angelina’s announcement about it on IG has Love Don’t Let Me Go playing in the background so that may be the song.

Michael, Angelina was singing to the twin children of Narges Mohammadi, this years Nobel Peace Prize recipient in prisoned in Iran for fighting for women’s rights who were seated front row. “I’ll be coming home, wait for me”. Consider also, Angelina is quarter Iranian..I think then we can understand where her emotion comes from 🙏
Bobby Hadfield, of The Righteous Brothers, is considered to have performed 'The Gold Standard' for this song
and deservedly so. But not even Bobby's rendition brings forth the emotion laden penetration Angelina provides

Yo.There were some great bts videos of Angelina working with the music director of KORK and a pianist on how they wanted to perform this and then dress rehearsal. At the end she comes over to her mother and asks "Did you like the ending?" Yes I liked the ending, the echo of that last note washing over the goose bumps and my tears.

There is such a diversity of fantastic performances, but "Mercy" will introduce you the next octave of Angelina's range with some whistle tone runs. She did some great renditions of some of her original songs. She is a brilliant songwriter as well. She has teamed with the great songwriter Toby Gad and the are coming out with some new songs this fall.❤

This was never a look at me moment, it was all about empathy for the plight of the Iranian woman who was the recipient of the peace prize. As for your next song why not try her very latest original "Bad Valentine" that she has co-written with Toby Gad (famous writer of some very very big songs). It was performed at a small venue recently and the video is available on James Thiels channel. He has the only approved (by Toby) video of this performance. Warning, be prepared. Great reaction btw.

Wonderful reaction to this absolut masterpiece in music. 👣Angelina for sure had at least her say in this arrangement, and KORK for sure did back her up masterfully at this very special occation. The imprisoned nobel peace prize laureate, Narges Mohammadi, iranien womens rights activist, was of course absent from this ceremony. Angelina met with, and performed before her two 17 years old twins, as they where there to recive the prize on their mothers behalf. They had not even met with their mother for almost a decade, and not even knowing when or even if they would meet with her. So this song of hearbreaking longing to meet with family and dear once was done so beautifully and perfect as the emotional song it was originally ment to be. Angelina for sure was the rightfully chosen one to perform it as well. Angelina, through her iranian born grandmother, Mery Zamani, had no trouble to join in on this serious and hurtful, and still honorable moment in time last desember.👣 🤗

Great reaction to the amazingly talented Angelina, she really knows how to emote in a song. Another wonderful version of this song you should definitely react to is by 20 year old Lucy Thomas from the UK. Her video was released only a couple of weeks ago and it is a completely different musical style to this one.
Michael, please excuse me for quoting from another reactor, this section from Andy Schnell, that relates the honor that Angelina had to perform at this Nobel Peace Prize Presentation last December in Oslo. It best sums up the importance of this performance and this song in particular, of all the reactions to this occasion that I have observed. I think most reactors do not have much of a handle on this and treat it as another Angelina song, but this is most special. Angelina is the ultimate storyteller in music. Boudy, thanks for your wonderful reaction to this beautiful, touching, respectful performance by Angelina Jordan. Boudy, I greatly respect your commentary about the choices Angelina made for this performance. As always, it is about the song and the occasion, for Angelina.
I thought "Unchained Melody" was an odd choice for this event, but have since learned the history of the song. More on that later.
Certainly, Angelina was thrilled to be performing back in her home country of Norway, where she is a national treasure, but this performance goes way beyond that honor. She first performed at the Save the Children event at the 2014 Peace Prize event, when she was 8 years old.
Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges, is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.
In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote, "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
The film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run, or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.
To continue where Andy left off, It has now been 10 years since Narges has seen her twin 18-year-old children or her husband. The twins spoke immediately before Angelina sang. The KORK Orchestra, is considered one of the ten best in the world.
James Thiel's edits of the Vegas show are really well put together. Solid audio and video quality considering the only footage available is from fans. Some edits are nothing short of amazing. And if you really want "the present", Thiel also has very high quality recording (as I understand it, it is an official recording he has permission to share) of "Bad Valentine", an original she made with Toby Gad. And then her channel has two versions of "If I Were a Boy", the church performance being the most interesting.

Did she sing it the best? I was setting 3 rows behind Bobby Hatfield's Mother the first time he performed this song (Taping of the Andy Williams show in 1965). His Mother had never heard him perform live before and he was very nervous at first! For 50 years I did not think anyone would ever out do him on this song. Then in 2015 I saw and heard 9 year old Angelina sing a short version of the song on TV! I said then that one day she would do it better than Bobby! Last September I was at her show in Portsmouth NH when she did a very slowed down version. I knew from the end of the first line that she was about to do it better than anyone else ever had! Knowing in my mind and heart that she was doing my all time favorite song better than it had ever been performed, this 81 year old man cried all the way thru the performance! Then 3 months later she did this performance. and I still cannot decide which is better! I guess they are tied for the best, but she is the one who has done it the best!!!

Believe me, hearing any artist live with no audio production and hearing the same performance after enhancement is often the difference between night and day! I have heard both artist before and after production of this song and I stand by my comment!

Angelina posted on her social media a thank you to the orchestra for trusting her with this arrangement. I'm sure you are correct in that this is a collaboration and there is a bts video where they are working it out on a piano.
What kind of chops does it take to do this live-on the Nobel stage. Angelina has always been humble, but she knows and has confidence in what she can do. Incredible range, incredible emotion.

Mike on another note, excuse the pun.. the world has found their next superstar.. her name is Sydnie Christmas and she won Britains Got Talent this year. Her final performance of Somewhere Over the Rainbow will blow your socks off, in fact any of her performances will. I believe she hits an F#5 in Somewhere over the rainbow but it’s her tone/timbre that gives me goosebumps. Like Angelina, she takes a classic and completely puts her own spin on it.

You mean as talented as Angelina? Wait....who? Or is it just the way she puts her spin on classics? Because another Angelina is not easy to come by, she's that one in a billion in my opinion. Sooo complete as an artist at just 18 years old. Hard to improve from this except more experience in life and more emotion in her delivery.

And let’s not forget Angelina’s Iranian heritage and Oslo is her hometown! Third time with KORK, she did Back to Black and Summertime when she was 10! Has been invited twice to Nobel Peace Prize, previously appeared when she was eight! She has brought grace and elegance back to the stage! For Vegas use James Thiel and BigAngieFan channels. My preference is "When We Were Young" but there are many outstanding moments in that concert. She introduced a new original as well. I would do at least a couple as she is so versatile it is difficult to judge on one song. Since you asked, no not the best version I have heard. As mentioned previously you should check out the recent cover by Lucy Thomas, who I can't seem to find a reaction to from you. Angelina, while immensely talented, has a rather unique voice which, for some, might be an acquired taste. I look forward to your impression of Lucy.
Since you posted your opinion I will give you mine.Are you aware of the circumstances of this performance from Angelina ?.If not I suggest you make yourself aware. Then you will understand why her performance was intentionally restrained and subdued ; hardly a time for a lively pop song performance.Lucy is very talented with a beautiful heart just like Angelina .But her musical theatre crystal clear vocals, will not be to everyones taste .I personally believe taking into consideration the circumstances of this performance from Angelina.Imo it's a absolutely brilliant cover of the emotionally driven original by Todd duncan. Also Angelina was performing live , unlike Lucy was not .Her video is a official music video , so her audio is from the studio recording . Not her live vocals .
For Vegas shows(2 in one night) check out James Thiel or Big Angie Fan for best sound and video-quality. They are good. Her new song, original "Princess of Ruins" explaining on why she performs barefoot. In Thiel video she tells why and say she will continue doing so since it is a part of her identity. Rather than going to the performances in Las Vegas, I think your have to react to the six or so original songs released on an EP earlier this year. When listened to in order, they provide a story of her growth - not to be missed.
Also, this performance of Unchained Melody, which she has done before, was chosen (by her I am sure) for the Peace Prize recipient's children, also 17, who were sitting right in front of her. Their mother is back in prison again for her verbal comments on the liberation of women, in which she dearly believes. "Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian human rights activist, “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all." Mohammadi has been a vocal proponent of mass feminist civil disobedience against the hijab in Iran and a vocal critic of the hijab and chastity program of 2023.[4][5] In May 2016, she was sentenced in Tehran to 16 years' imprisonment for establishing and running "a human rights movement that campaigns for the abolition of the death penalty."[6] She was released in 2020 but sent back to prison in 2021, where she has since given reports of the abuse and solitary confinement of detained women.”" Also, Angelina's Grandmother is Iranian, so that makes it more personal for Angelina. She lived there with her Grandmother when she was about 6 years old and speaks Farsi. As an aside, Angie's late Grandfather was Japanese and Angie's father is thought to be Swedish...
