Everything came together to produce one of the most poignant, emotional and classy renditions of any song, let alone this one - the meaning behind the song, the occasion, the tribute to an imprisoned Iranian woman, the presence of the children, Angelina’s Iranian heritage, the setting in Oslo, I believe this rendition will go down as a true classic. It deserves it. Angelina deserves it. Thank you Adam. I can see you were more than a little impressed.

Angelina was with Toby Gad and announced an appearance for May 20 at the Palladium Theater in London to premier their Colab of "If I Were a Boy" - they’ll also be doing a livestream for the Ivor awards on May 23 in London - AJ was excited to be working with Toby and Toby was excited to be working with Angi - and they’ll have some original new music to release this year as well!! So, if history repeats, that will be a banger!!! Just thought you would like to know.

The ability this girl has to captivate and move the people who listen to her is absolutely incredible, as is her sensitivity in choosing and interpreting the song for this ceremony.This performance of her is fascinating and wonderfully intimate, she reinterpreted this legendary song and adapted it perfectly to the emotion of the homage to the painful story of Narges Mohammadi! I was moved to see and hear Angelina singing in such an incredibly mature and charming way 7 years after the last time and in the same studio and certainly also with some of the musicians who accompanied her as a child, when she took her first steps towards his musical future. Here Angelina was simply fantastic and wonderfully "unchained", probably the only singer who at only 17 years old has already sung on 2 different occasions at the celebrations of Nobel Prizes.💛🧡❤

Narges Mohammadi was this years' recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Narges was, at the time of this tribute, on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Her two children spoke on her behalf at this event. Most of the performers were Iranian.
We know Angelina's grandmother, Mery Zamani, grew up in Iran and was a prodigy for painting and poetry. We can imagine the conversations Mery had with Angelina about Narges. This performance had to be extremely meaningful to Angelina and her family. I hope all the angels will spread the story of Narges and her mission, with the hope for change.
In 1954, Alex North was contracted to compose the score for the prison film Unchained (released in 1955). North had a melody he had written in the 1930s and composed and recorded the score when he was asked to write a song based upon the movie's theme. North asked Hy Zaret to write the lyrics. After first refusing, Zaret and North together wrote "Unchained Melody. Zaret refused the producer's request to include the word "unchained" in his lyrics. The song eventually became known as the "Unchained Melody" even though the song does not actually include the word "unchained". Instead, Zaret chose to focus on someone who pines for a lover he has not seen in a "long, lonely time".
"Unchained Melody" comes from the film centered on a man who contemplates either escaping from prison to live life on the run or completing his sentence and returning to his wife and family. So indeed this song fits along with Narges being in prison and her two children, and the rest of the people who embrace freedom, calling for her release.

The recipient for this year's award was Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian dissident, now in an Iranian prison for her outspoken messages and activism for women's rights. Narges' two twin children were here this evening for the event, and spoke on her behalf prior to Angelina singing. The children are Angelina's age and haven't seen their mother in years. She was able to speak with both before her performance and I'm sure, made that performance all the more poignant for her in the moment. Angelina is one-quarter Iranian herself, her grandmother Mery, full Iranian. If you are lucky enough to watch any of the videos of Angelina interacting with any of her family, especially her grandmother, you will quickly see the connection between those two--the love is palpable--it's a beautiful thing to behold.
For me this was the most beautiful performance of Angelina's career, and its just beginning. Our beautiful angel has come of age.

Bobby Hadfield's rendition is considered to have been 'The Gold Standard' and rightfully so. However, not even
Bobby is able to match the emotion laden penetration she brings forth in this magical presentation to honor a
woman who is languishing in an Iranian prison for simply attempting to defend women's rights.

Adam, Keep in mind that the emotion surrounding the back story of the recipient of the Nobel Prize is the inspiration for why Angelina chose to do this stunning and beautifully soft and delicate arrangement. Angelina intuitively and instinctively channeled the level of emotion that her interpretation of the lyrics required. It’s why she is unequalled and incomparable in my mind.

Thanks Adam...been really long time and several dozen new songs from Angelina since we have seen you. It is helpful to know what this is all about. She is performing at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. The peace prize was awarded to Narges Mohammadi, an Iranian imprisoned for standing up for women's rights in a Barbaric regime of Iran. Her two children are in the audience, they accepted the prize on their mother's behalf. Since this song is about "imprisonment" it was appropriate for Angelina to choose this and sing it in such a beautiful and somber way....exactly how it should be done, with respect for the occasion. This song was real for her. The original music is from a movie ('Unchained') about a man in prison yearning to see his lover and wanting her to be there for him. This performance was dedicated to Narges Mohammadi, who is in prison in Iran for championing women's rights. I feel Angelina was voicing Narges' actual feelings. remember, too, that her grandmother is herself Iranian and well-known in that country. Oh, and Narges' children were there in the audience! Notice how Angelina at the end turned to them and placed her hand on her heart. Endless compassion.
Maybe a genetic, familial connection to the winner of the noble pride went to a Iranian Persian woman who is incarcerated at the time. Remember her grandma is Persian too. I think it was a song to comfort the family there at the ceremony.

I know, I mention it countless times, but KORK and the commentee of the NOBEL Peace Prize did not invite just a world class singer, they invited Angelina Jordan Astar, their nationald treasure of Norway. You might know that Angelina is in part Iranian and the ceremony was close to her heart. Her grandmother is Iranian by birth and very close to her. She is emotionally attached to the subject of the peace prize. Also both children of the winning lady were siting in front of her and she was rendering homage to the mother jailed in Iran.
Theres a story behind this song she sang for a important reason. She was telling a story.
This performance is a new arrangement of "Unchained Melody" by Helge Sunde for the Norwegian orchestra, KORK. I have no idea if Sunde was involved with AJ's part. There are videos of Angelina and the orchestra director working together on the piece and the result is marvelous. What is not evident in the video, which was on live TV, the interview with imprisoned Narges Mohammadi's twins, who accepted the prize for her, was occurring right in front of the orchestral stage, just to AJ's right. The twins are the same age as AJ and their comments were heart-breaking. AJ obviously heard it all. I believe that you can see a faint "track of a tear" in the makeup on her right cheek. So, this was an emotional setting for her in this important, live, and finally, masterfully crafted, performance.
She was deeply involved. There is a clip about the preparations.
I read that the Conductor announced to the audience that Angelina arranged her own song for this performance.

I was disappointed, I must confess, by your abandoning the marvelous journey that Angelina has taken us on. You're back now. I'm glad. Now. Back to business. Surely you know that Angelina had a big show ( Westgate Hotel casino and resort last february 29th in Vegas where Elvis had recidency in the last 10 years of His life). She did 2 concerts in the same day. 7 pm and 9.30 pm respectivly. Have you seen any of it? Do it if you haven't yet. In them she combined some of Her most popular covers with original songs from the EP( Old Enough) She released on May of last year. Rings a bell? She also sang a brand new,original,jet unreleased song titled:"Princess of Ruins". In it She talks of the encounter She had at the age of 6yo with the little girl in the Middle East to whom She gave her shoes explainig why She's always barefeeth on stage. Angelina was recorded here in December 2023 at the Nobel Peace prize ceremony in Oslo Norway, performing this beautiful version of Unchained Melody. She paid tribute to Narges, who is currently on a hunger strike while imprisoned in Iran, for being an activist for women's rights. Angelina has covered this song quite a few times already besides this amazing performance in December. At 9 years old on an interview show on Norway TV. At about 11 in a home recording. At her concert in Portsmouth New Hampshire last September and most recently at her Las Vegas concerts in February
Angelina I imagine was so proud and honoured to be performing in her own country with the Norwegian Kork orchestra, this performance Angelina was paying respect to the prize winners, Not the first time Angelina has performed at the Nobel peace event the last time was in 2014 when Angelina was 8 years old with her arrangement of ( What A Wonderful World), also Angelina has performed with the Norwegian Kork orchestra before, once when Angelina was 10 years old with her rendition of ( Back To Black) and another time with her arrangement of ( Summertime) again at 10 years old, I attended Angelina’s concerts in Las Vegas on the 29th February Angelina’s stage performance was awesome her live vocals phenomenal, Angelina apparently was so excited to be performing on the same stage as Elvis had performed on, Angelina’s EP Old enough she dropped in July last year is amazing all 6 songs on the album are fire 🔥, apparently Angelina a couple of days ago mentioned some more original material is on the way! Hi Adam, welcome back. Loved your reaction. The difference in her performance was in the story behind the recipient of the Noble Peace Prize winner, Narges Mohammadi and her family. Read about it and then rewatch the performance once again with that in mind. It will most certainly make sence and give you the understanding to Angelina's emotional approach.

Part of the emotions is due to her grandmother being from Iran
The story behind the performance will explain everything to you. Angelina was concerned she might break down and cry during the performance but she didn't and was absolutely able to pay tribute to the imprisoned Iranian woman with all her heart and soul.
