Such precision, discipline and creativity. It is said that Michelangelo merely freed his subjects from their marble prisons. It seems to me that you are also performing such artistic miracles, Thomas. Good luck and best wishes to achieve your dreams
The process was hypnotique! You have to keep doing what you're doing! You have an incredible gift! I am absolutely blown away by the precision and artistry of your work! I have no words but JUST WOW!!!
Just found your channel and if this is what you could do four years ago I can not imagine what else you have learned to do. You truly are amazing at your chosen craft.
i love the top piece . didnt expect it to come out how it did when the drilling started . he pushed that little piece of wood to its limit . reminded me of something that would have been in king Solomon's temple .
I feel honored to see this craftsmanship. The insight that you allowed the piece to develop makes this even more remarkable. And perhaps the intrinsic movement of the idea is the gift. Thank you.
Watching this Zen-like progress, calm and graceful, it was like watching water flow, not knowing where each droplet will land, wanting to anticipate, then after yielding to not knowing, understanding that at that moment it could not have been any other way. Thank you for sharing this exquisite process with the public, with me. You choose to express the gift you have and when artists do that, the world is a better place.
With no compunction, I would have given this to my fiance instead of a diamond ring and if she scoffed at the gesture, I would have wished her the best in life and bidden her farewell. I've never watched a wood turning project of this length without skipping forward or with my full attention. There were even times I was holding my breath, though I knew it turned out ok from the start. Your attention to detail, your planning, your love of numbers, your patience, your understanding of your craft is all joined together just like your choice of woods. And if you filmed this yourself, chose the music and edited it all together...I'd have to write 12 more paragraphs. Thank you so much for sharing this and I hope you become astronomically famous and wealthy beyond your wildest dreams. But somehow, I know that is not your goal. You do it because you love to do it and that makes watching it all the more amazing and humbling. Thanks again. GG.
What a beautiful comment Greg, i'd have to frame this one :) And you are completely right, all the money in the world couldn't buy me the joy, and feeling of creating something. I wish i earned more though, to fulfill my dreams. selling this sort of work is not easy, let alone live from it.
Great work Thomas. I'm a cabinetmaker and in the past a professional photographer so your video is ticking a lot of boxes for me. Very refreshing and inspiring to see an alternative from the ubiquitous segmented bowl. A truly beautiful design, skillfully constructed, captured on a very well shot video with a great soundtrack. Loved it, Awesome!
Discipline, skill, patience and creativity results in such wonderful works. Art is part of the life of the artist that generates pleasure for others, in abundance. Well done and thank you Thomas!
YIKES....I could not figure out where you were going until almost over....I think I had as much FUN watching as you making...First time visiting your channel...Thank You TAG...tm
I probably have already commented but that's what I enjoy about our craft. Is the taking of simple a piece of wood and turn into something truly beautiful.
This clip has been in my recommendations for months, huge fan of the likes of Al 'Grandmaster Rebel' Furtado, Nick Zameti, Chris Salomone, Modustrial Maker and Pohl Barn etc, so not surprising it's there, but I kept putting off watching it for some reason. Until tonight. Watched it start to finish - think I forgot to breath during some parts - and all I can say is wow.
From watching part of the way through and the thumbnail, perhaps a table lamp. With modern LED "bulbs" there is no real heat concerns. The shadows should be rather nice.
Спасибо за красоту! Спасибо за опыт, которым вы делитесь с нами. Всё очень полезно для дома! Желаю вам здоровья, живите долго, мастер! Россия, Калининград.
Almost 2 am but had to watch this to the end. I like how you think creatively and have the planning and patience to carry it through to completion. Follow your dreams.
Anton I am not Dutch but my husband is from the Netherlands he is 78 and I am from South Africa and Afrikaans speaking and I am 72. I enjoy every minute of every woodturning video I watch. Why don't you talk in your videos I love it when they explain what and why they do. You have a very calming way of working I love it.
I started to watch this video and I HAD to finish it! Mainly because I had no idea what you were doing, but I will say one thing: you have the patience of Job. I truly admire that. I love carving but I'm 73 and don't see very well anymore to carve details. So I watch others. Great job, my man!
Absolutely amazing. It almost has a medieval feel to it. The topper resembles a crown and the body of it kind of reminds me of a knights helmet. Great craftsmanship.
This was an inspiring piece of work, Any one watching this should take the plunge and have a go, their are so many different woods available with colour and grains. Well done Thomas stick with it and you will get your dream
This project took a while to complete, Hope you enjoy it! :) edit: Just wanted to let people know, who left a wonderful, incredible comment or liked the video how much i appreciate you, it means alot to me. And everyone who watched it for that matter. This definitely motivates me to do these larger projects more often. I am blown away by how well it is received!, And still a little in shock to be honest. This project also feels as another stepping stone towards my absolute dream goal, which is having my own shop one day. Surrounded by nature :). 17/07/19 An update on the own shop dream. I have moved to a private space (600sqft/56m2 in April this year. It took a few months to set everything up, it's now nearly completed. I Didn't record much of that, but from what i have, trying to create a video that's worthy of watching :).
Octávio Luis Hahahaha I was telling someone about this video. For the life of me. I could not say what it is for. Except that it’s one of the coolest wood projects I’ve ever seen. Hanging lamp, candy dish, jewelry dish.....ect... I don’t know. But it’s awesome
I love Oregon Myrtle-wood. My late father-in-law, who lived in Brookings, used to “rescue” logs from the Chetco River and age them in his shop. Sadly, I haven’t worked with any since he passed away. Great project: I thoroughly enjoyed your video!
While I will say that is the greatest show of patience and imagination I've ever seen, It is also one of the strangest turnings I've ever seen as well.
This was an amazing video to watch. I loved how we got to see your creative process. I am not a woodworker, I simply love the art and fulfill my interest in it by watching RUclips videos. I am so glad yours showed up in my recommendations this morning. You are a very talented artist. I wish you all the best, and hope your personal dreams are fulfilled. Until then I leave you with the words that kept going through my mind as I watched the video: Awe Inspiring.

You are absolutely right. I was having a bad day. I apologize for what i said. I honestly don't like the look of the project. The only mistake I made in watching this video was starting it at 12am... I couldn't stop watching, it was mesmerizing... Loved the detail and effort you put into the piece! The finishing touches to the cap with the encircling of what to me, I interpreted, seemed to be of people holding hands, was a nice symbolic gesture that sent a positive message!
Fastest 45 min in a good long while. And I'm a person who keeps busy. Beautiful process, soothing video. Made me take out my wood turner from storage. Happy I did. Thanks!
It needs to be said that not only are you a master woodworker, you're also a very fine cinematographer. The camera work, sound design and editing are as exquisite as the finished wood vessel. It's not often you find RUclips videos that can be described as an experience, but for me, this was more than relaxing, this was forty five minutes of proper therapy; an inspiration to pick up my own handicrafts again. Subscribed. Thank you for what you do!
Your decaton to detail is incredible! I love what you were able to add to the beauty of this pice of wood. It's because you love doing woodwork's with your life that you're able to take the patients and add so much in different transitions. I'am a workworker too. Hi loved, just watching you take your time to get it right! I wish you the best as you go forward in your life. Thanks for taking the time to make this video.
My jaw was hanging open for most of this video. The incredible precision and detail you exhibit is absolutely amazing, and the end result is beyond goegeous. At every step, i was left wondering, "Wow, what is he doing NOW? What could he possibly do to top that last step?" And then you did. I lack the vocabulary to adequately describe my awe. Thank you for making this, and for posting the video.
Luiz Augusto Oliveira - Brasil Great job! It shows the born artist who can do incredible jobs and difficult to believe they are possible. Continue and you will soon have your store to fulfill your dream. You do your best!
Hi Jim :). It's so nice to recognize names out of all the responses. I wanted to say this was more a project that evolved slowly, as i went along. The basic idea i had was to make something tribal. I really enjoy this type of process, letting your thoughts and choices at each particular moment decide the final outcome. Without forcing yourself to stick to drawings.
What can be said i watched every minute from beginning to end brillient. There are some wonderful turners on here but in a competative way you beat them all and i know it wasnt a competition but your design and hand skills are brilliant. Also and very very important you allowed us to enjoy the whole journey without having to put the video on mute all of the gentle music was appropriate, once again thank you for this marvellous experience.
This build is wonderful ..i watch it from the begining to the very end ... I admire the patient on the decor mostly on the very thin segments Thank for sharing this video
Hi Thomas, What an incredible project. Loved your attention to detail and patience to see it thru. ell done, suggest you look at wearing a dust mask. Cheers John from South Australia
Thomas, As I watched you make this incredible vessel, I found not only was it a calming effect on me but can now have a brand new appreciation of this art and it is most certainly an art form. The time and passion must be here and you have both. I hope you have your shop by now and I'd certainly purchase hand made works such as this anytime!! Bravo
Now that’s amazing! I was getting tired of watching the basic vase or bowl. Dinosaur eggs are way overdone. I guess that’s what makes you a woodworker instead of a turner. Excellent job.
It is so refreshing to see such a young one doing this type of work, and at this skill level. Best wishes to you.

I watched this video to relax, and boy it did relax me, I love the artistry and the music is just right.
What an incredible piece of art work!!
You are in a totally different league of your own. Beautiful!!
