God... I love Damon so much, but I would be scared shitless to talk to him. He's so intimidating in the way his strong opinions work. I feel like the first sentence I'd say would make him hate me.
i think im just as crazy as he is but i share alot of the same opinions that he has and everything he's said in this interview has made perfect sense to me. but then again i've been told i can be quite intimidating. if you ever do have the pleasure of meeting him... careful what you say ;)
+braedon96 I've talked with his engineer a number of times who has a similar personality, and i find him a tad intimidating, but that's probably because I respect him and what he's done in his life so much I don't feel like I can say anything which would interest him, but we do get on and he has some awesome stories and ideas about engineering and life in general.
One of the things i love about Gorillaz is that they combine two of my favorite passions, animation and music. I sincerely hope they'll eventually come back together sometime in the future and continue to make music. When this does happen, i hope there record label fully promotes there album and not half ass it and cut funding like they did with the rhinestone eyes video.
I wonder why Damon thinks he hasn't 'broken out' or whatever in US. In the 'Bananaz' doc. he was talking about America not 'getting it' or whatever, too. As far as I can tell, he's very highly regarded over here. Maybe Im wrong?
I think in the 90s a lot of people in America were more focused on the grunge movement of Nirvana and not really on British music, with the exception of Oasis. However, I do think through time we Amercians did change our tastes and recently Damon has considered his success of Gorillaz to America. Therefore, I think and I hope he sees the impact he has made here. :)
murdoc's skin change i guess it's become green and watching this interview i become more more love to gorillaz and Damon, he is true artist and have a huge view for every culture and never scared to saying his own opinion
I love all 3 but Damon is so complex and intellectual. Also Damon has 2-D's hair thing in the back of his head... I just sense 2D's on presence with him. Like 2d is posessed by Damon when singing
- You think you've had a big influence on that? - Aaaaahh... That would... - It's ok to say if you do! - No, I can't say that. MODESTY: LEVEL HARDCORE :D
babyfruitbat I loved the way he trailed off at the end. I’m pretty sure 2D having a painkiller addiction was subtly referring to Damon’s heroin use during phase 1
I don't think Damon has anything against the "Glee Cast" or anything like that... Like X-factor glee makes music seem so dull and mediocre.... It just leads to nowhere... Being a big fan of music also while loving Blur & Gorillaz i really must say i agree with Damon... Glee... X-factor and all the other crappy turd programs which uses music in that specific way is really just for people to consume.... It doesn't come from the heart, it is not original... Not edgy even in the slightest way.. Believe me i watched glee one time, and my god does it suck fucking ass. People who actually enjoy the blatantly mediocre cover versions of different songs while watching X-factor or Glee... Wake the fuck up, its totally fucking shit.... Enough said really, i know some people who like Glee... Hope they grow out of it. Peace.
Lord, he's kinda intimidating with how he stands with his strong opinions. I respect him like hell for that though, being himself and standing for HIS real opinion instead of what the mass wants him to make everyone think. I'd be terrified he'd think I'm completely fake the first work that I would ever say to him though lol.
wish they talked more about syria and working with their orchestra. i love the gorillaz so much for playing damascus, they are very much an international band
What's with all of those people saying Damon's arrogant? I don't get it. What did he say here to seem arrogant? He is everything but a show-off. He knows he's talented deep inside, if that's what you mean. That's not arrogance, it's confidence and, honestly, truth. Geez.
"One of our earliest driving points really for gorillaz was we wanted to be anti-celebrity"- Damon Albarn" "We were probably just sick to death of seeing one fake celebrity after another" -Jamie Hewlett This is why I love this group!
take it easy. he's not personally challenging Damon and proposing "armchair psychology", he's using intelligent questions to delve deeper into the interviewees' ideas. You can see it as pretentious, but that's why he interviews intellectuals - so he can actually make some points and discover something, instead of asking katy perry what her favorite color of nail polish is
The interviewer kept challenging Damon on the subject Glee. Maybe if the interviewer was an actual artist, he'd understand that some artists want their art to live on in a certain frame of mind. The guy also has a strange obssesion with success, i mean SERIOUSLY, get over yourself!
Jian is one of the best radio talk show hosts in North America (yes, even including the US...). He has interviewed HUNDREDS of world-renowned artists in all fields. He is very good. Usually the only people that have a problem with him are douchebags who only care about themselves and would have preferred not doing an interview at all in the first place.
HMan2828 It seems pretty obvious they do not wish to be there. I think you went wrong at 'douchebags who only care about themselves'. I don't see any reason to call anyone that.
Like the other guy said, Jian interviewed a lot famous people. Maybe, I guess, this was the most interesting or informationable questions asked. Or it could be that he is generally interested in art and success. I mean, Damon IS pretty successful. Iunno dude.
28:58 Those two words Damon shrugs into the conversation couldn't be said too much about the fucking music industry today. You're sacrificing potential money for your art! You're not getting with the "times"! You're not cooperating with the man! So. Fucking. What.
the "relaxing place" is probably full of weed..... look at the way hewlt is laughing when damon mentions it..... 6:54 I mean come on...................
I don't blame him hahaha. He's done so many interviews and gets asked a lot of the same questions from his previous interviews, because they don't care enough to research thoroughly about him. It's just so funny watching him get annoyed and pissed off by the interviewers.
If I would not know that he is the voice behind 2D I would not believe it. His voice is so deep. o_O But he has a nice voice. He sounds a little bit tired, but this is sweet.
the communication barrier vibrationally present between the host and the guys is hilarious, but also feels so off-putting that it made me inwardly cringe so bad i got IBS cramps. I am amused, but my tummy is not.
we heard this one b4 and will many times over, remember demon days, rumors spread about the unlikely hood of more gorillaz but they stay relevant regardless
@armpits17 a review from from uk's the guardian news paper ( don't shoot the messenger ) Gorillaz took a big risk standing in for U2 at Glastonbury. And with a set that failed to ignite the crowd in the same way that Blur did last year, it seems the gamble didn't pay off....i Have read that the stage layout was not audience interaction friendly..That is what people at glastonbury feed off from, is a connection with the band & that show just didn't have it
great interview! they get a bit heavy on their ego after your intro of 15 million albums sold. glad they cool down and talk the real deal.. cool writers fer sure.
@Oliver767 At interviews? Yes. He always speaks sort of slowly while formulating his thoughts and seems a big disagreeable, but in the end the stuff he puts out in interviews can be very enlightening. I'm happy too see that he hasn't cheapened at all throughout the years, despite what recent evidence (like Docamatic) may say.
Damon Albarn just has the most pleasant timbre in his voice.
Do you talk of his strong opinions in this interview or in general? Because if you are refering to this interview, I seem to have missed it.
+braedon96 I've talked with his engineer a number of times who has a similar personality, and i find him a tad intimidating, but that's probably because I respect him and what he's done in his life so much I don't feel like I can say anything which would interest him, but we do get on and he has some awesome stories and ideas about engineering and life in general.
right holy shit.
Scerdy cat faith over fear
Damon Albarn seems like the kind of guy that would fit the role of the bad guy in a movie that does bad things for the good reasons.
***** is that the film with ray Winston. That was a good film
He’s like V for Vendetta of music 🎭
You mean like Tim Roth on "Reservoir Dogs", I thought it was him
Face! Loved that
Damon is such a weirdo. It's fantastic.
damon and jamie seem very intimidating. their music and art is a lot more fun than they seem
at 7:37 you can tell damon wanted to say blurred but then stopped himself lmao
These two guys have such gritty, cool voices, I could listen to them talk all day (even when Damon has a cold).
damon refusing to sellout. love him. his voice is awesome too
we need to have a rap battle between him and kanye west where damon decides this is stupid and leaves
Samuel v someone give this man an award
Yes
I love hearing Jamie talk about the characters, it makes me happy :)
Jamie seriously can't talk without cracking a grin
Even with a cold, Damon Albarn still manages to sound like a sexy beast.
18:38 Great way of saying "bastards"
LOL That's how we say it in the UK!!
Love these 2 guys, Damon Albarn, and Jamie Hewlett
One of the things i love about Gorillaz is that they combine two of my favorite passions, animation and music. I sincerely hope they'll eventually come back together sometime in the future and continue to make music. When this does happen, i hope there record label fully promotes there album and not half ass it and cut funding like they did with the rhinestone eyes video.
Damon's speaking voice is awesome. Really.
I don't think they take themselves too seriously.
2:13 "I never pick up other peoples bugs" with the eye contact, brilliant!
what does that mean?
Lucy it means British things
love his smile man, so colorful
They seem so icy, but this was around their tension though around phase 3.
"They will always stay thin and have great hair, bastards." Lol Damon.
Russel: …
I wonder why Damon thinks he hasn't 'broken out' or whatever in US. In the 'Bananaz' doc. he was talking about America not 'getting it' or whatever, too. As far as I can tell, he's very highly regarded over here. Maybe Im wrong?
Michael Wandell No you aren't wrong. Everything besides 2 Gorillaz songs (and song 2) are highly regarded in America.
Michael Wandell but blur wasn't popular here. If I'm not wrong.
I think in the 90s a lot of people in America were more focused on the grunge movement of Nirvana and not really on British music, with the exception of Oasis. However, I do think through time we Amercians did change our tastes and recently Damon has considered his success of Gorillaz to America. i’m american and a lot of people love gorillaz. myself included.
jacox 9876 you mean the opposite?
Damon's voice gives me eargasm all the time.
murdoc's skin change i guess it's become green and watching this interview i become more more love to gorillaz and Damon, he is true artist and have a huge view for every culture and never scared to saying his own opinion

- You think you've had a big influence on that?
- Aaaaahh... That would...
- It's ok to say if you do!
- No, I can't say that.
MODESTY: LEVEL HARDCORE :D
I'm totally in love with Damon Albarn. This is occuring to me only now - after 20+ years of loving Blur, Gorillaz... Hmm.
im very attracted to his wisdom
aby 1975 same.
Finally I have words for why Iove him so much omg
Damon never takes painkillers
2D is addicted to painkillers
Damn son I don't know what else to comment
babyfruitbat I loved the way he trailed off at the end. I’m pretty sure 2D having a painkiller addiction was subtly referring to Damon’s heroin use during phase 1
No. I don’t think so
@@Vincentzw 2d has nothing to do with Damon at all.
The camera man loves Damon's face :D
Who doesn‘t ? ^^‘
Who doesn’t ? ^^’

What i like about Damon is that he does music because he enjoys it and not for the money
Wow, this channel chose the best possible thumbnail image. It's such an amusing derpy image of Damon.
Ah I love them both sm. Such amazing people, and I love how raw they are. They don't fake themselves for the candy-coated pop culture.
Damon Albarn is such an intelligent person.
I'd love to go and spend a day in the Gorillaz House, couldn't think of anything better
I am still so in love with Damon omggg🖤
If you like this you would like my brother, Stu Morris' music
13:25 and 16:13 definitely. people are only appreciating how great it is now
wish they talked more about syria and working with their orchestra. i love the gorillaz so much for playing damascus, they are very much an international band

these three guys have the best talking voices ever.
His voice is perfect.

Damon is simply amazing. He's my idol.
that's actually a great interview
i love how Damon pronounces "extraordinary" :3
These men, are fantastic.
Damon and Jamie are just amazing.

God the interviewer needs to stop interrupting and let them talk haha
Oh shut up, this interviewer is one of the best
Woah bud calm down, don't get your panties in a wad
George Waweru ya jian is great, especially when he is pummeling women into submission
@@peters5090 what? You sound like an incel
He's the best interviewer in the entire world. Pure class!
Damon has a deep voice
i loved it when i saw them best day of my life
Damon in the thumbnail looks he’s making the face of a dog who ate a bee
Damn this was so long ago. Time flies
yes you are...he is doing a fine job, in my mind he's one of the best interviewers i've ever seen
Agree completely with Glee, that show is heinous.
It'd be so awesome to be Damon Albarn
he's manning it out, i can see it in his eyes
Amen Damon, Amen!
He speaks another language. Its brilliant.
I love Damon too guys, but give Jamie some love ;^; 💙

The interviewer actually makes his own music in his spare time and is quite the guitarist. Anyway, he is probably top 3 interviewers.
And now he is also top 1 sexual deviant and aggressor in Canada!
Damon is a QT
lol, "whats on the 4th floor?" "relaxing things" = drugs
I really wonder, how many same t-shirts does Damon have?)
He wears those stripey ones just EVERYWHRE!!!

If I would not know that he is the voice behind 2D I would not believe it. His voice is so deep. o_O
But he has a nice voice. He sounds a little bit tired, but this is sweet.
They need to get Barry Gibbs for a version of the song
As well as the other collaborations they tried to get
damon albarn would never need to pay for sex as he is a legend
