POV Night Bus Drive: 2019 29' Gillig Advantage Diesel

- Today, we drive one of Shuttle-UM's 2019 Gillig 29' Low Floor Transit Bus, unit 7619. Empty bus, not in service. This is a video created with scrap material from a recording I did over a year ago, so bear with the short run-time.
Engine: Cummins L9
Transmission: Voith D864.6
Camera: GoPro Hero 8 Black - Авто/Мото
Im surprised at how old it looks for a bus from 2019.
And how loud it is.
That’s completely different from European buses. But its not a bad thing! This one has a lot more personality to it!
Yeah, Gillig low floor buses have not changed in appearance much since they were introduced in 1996. I think north American buses in general look a little outdated because the body styling is not updated often
@@eugew23 actually, that's all a spec man.. They do have digital display now available for Gillig
@@eugew23 that's a great thing that's why they are unique, manly and classic
sure, more personality, but why would you not make it more quiet thus a more pleasant bus to be a passenger on?
@@IMex1002I than the personality is lost ,I would not mind the sound if it does not Interfares the comfort
Wow! The Graphics on this bus simulator are top notch
This is real life

That’s a great looking bus. It’s a perfect conversion base to a motor home when it goes into retirement.
Its a great day being able to see another drivers pov video from you
This bus sounds just like RTD's 6300-6400 series buses. What a beautiful sound. Excellent footage once again!
Rtd still runs 29fts up in Longmont
@@Link8451 They do! And they just got new ones in to replace the 2006 order.
0:22 the way it's RPM rises , seems really powerful
i misssed these videos, glad to see you back. love the channel.
The L9 & Voith combo reminds me of my hometown’s Novabus LFS’s. Such a great tune to hear!
A common combo, for sure. Great sounds
I just spammed watching several trucking channels, now its time to binge watch bus channels hahaha. Your videos are fascinating and soothing to watch. The bus engine roaring, the calm silence of the night, smooth shifting and turning.
I'm glad to hear you enjoyed.
Wow very nice sounding gillig!!!! And nice video!!
i love that late night alone drive
This reminds me an old carousel bus that I ride in 2019 when going to the park
And the steering wheel looks so nice!
The steering wheel and the dashboard look so cool! Great video
Glad you like it!
Voith transmission is a classic sound of roads in any country
The Voith is really unmistakable haha
I was thinking of getting into bus driving. Seems a lot more different to trucking then I thought. Very interesting.
INI ALASAN KENAPA SAYA SUBSCRIBE ANDA, SAYA SENANG DENGAN VIDEO BUS ANDA, AMAZING🔥🔥🔥
Looks surprisingly easy to drive. It's pretty short and has so much visibility!
It is! You really feel the short wheelbase here.
@@eugew23I just drove one yesterday. It’s a 2004 with 721,000 miles. Those things are true workhorses
Amazing that you were able to record while driving. University shuttle buses obviously have different rules than city transit buses.
I was going to say the same thing
Yeah was gonna say cellphone use while behind the wheel of public transit is pretty much a fire able offence
Oh yeah - gotta be careful with stuff like this. I typically don't touch camera equipment while in the seat and just set everything up before and cleanup afterwards. Makes for more editing but at least I don't handle electronics while in the driver's seat.
@@eugew23
Gotcha. We can’t even do that. We have very strict rules about no usage of electronic devices. Our phones have to be turned off and can’t even be on our person. We can’t even have apple and similar watches. I wish we could mount a camera for handsfree recording, that would be great.
@@LuckyCharms777Good thing he never touches a phone or records with a phone the whole video then, it’s all a go-pro strapped to his head
Nice...guess everyone had enter through the back door during the pandemic...I am jealous of your window space...my company has so much junk in our way and our windows are pitted and filthy
great driving.
with love, from the Philippines
That is a tiny gillig. I drive a 40 ft one every night.
The 40s and 60s are common for transit buses
It's cute that you really make a full stop at the stop sign even when there are no cars coming
if ur recording urself doing ur job u better do it right lol
@@hamood932 it's because here in brazil people don't stop at the stop sign at all, even when there are cars coming. They let the car go 1 kmh but don't stop hahaha
The last thing I want is for people to obliterate my existence for rolling a stop sign lmao.
Great content
Whew , you were whipping this
Nice video !
+ 1 suscriber from France !
Amazing game!
Those Sound the Same as our european Iveco Tector Engines with the ZF Ecolife transmission.
AWESOME!!!!
Never heard a voith transmission shift that fast, usually from first gear, it’ll rev up high
True that. These newer versions seem to be tuned to shift at lower rpms than the older models. It's common to see and hear that scream on 2014 and older buses with Voiths
Might be the difference between a DIWA.5 and a DIWA.6
With a "MAN NG313 A23" its such a better feeling
0:01 key 0:15 start up 0:20 air 0:27 door open 2:07 time to drive 0:32 steering wheel move 1:33 steering wheel move backwards 1:40 door closed

Thanks cousin!

Eugene, thanks a bunch for the vids. This is perhaps the closest that most will come to experiencing operating a motorcoach. Can you post an email here so that I can ask you about a specific motorcoach that you have featured on your channel? This is one that I actually own? Thanks, again!!
I would prefer not to put down my info, but you are welcome to ask!
Good luck Tyler your
Weird to see a 2019 still have drum brakes on it. The 40ft Gilligs I work on that are from 2019 have disc brakes. And a fully digital dashboard. The dash setup on this looks like the way our 5600s looked which were from mid to late 2000s I'm pretty sure.
Pittsburgh, Port Authority right
I think the 29'ers aren't available with discs. I could be wrong, but I have not seen a 29'er Gillig with discs! The longer versions are available with discs tho - they make a huge difference!
I think it was 2016 and up have discs....
Love older bus 🚌
Sarta (canton Ohio) has a prototype 29’CNG GILLIG Bus
I expect the Mercedes-Benz Tourrider to join y'all coach fleet
Damn you even have ur headlights on?? :O
this looks like flight :)
It's beautiful to drive a bus at night it's an amazing feeling
Минусы не отгороженной кабины-отражения салона в лобовом стекле ночью...
Looks really quick but not too modern compered to the Mercedes citaro what is a typical bus in the European Union. Very good video anyways

cool graphics
I used to drive a truck around Maryland. I went to Hyattsville a lot and would use Route 1 and go through UMD to get there. I may of driven by you.
It's possible!
Как игра называется ?
The bus looks absolutely ancient for 2019, even on the interior
Since 1996
New Flyer Xcelsior and Nova LFS are redesigned however
@@ag6371 they are still 2000s design
Yup, the low-floor Gilligs have not had a redesign since their introduction in 1996. The BRT version attempts to streamline the looks by adding some aero extensions in the front and rear but are largely unchanged.
@@eugew23European buses are constantly updating, but I saw another comment saying that modern designs can be more expensive to repair
What is the purpose of the device in the front of the car?
The bike rack?

The old ones are the best
nice gameplay
6:12 The reflection on the glass spoiled the quality of the entire video so far...

Why do American buses look old and modern at the same time?
that bus was good at night drive you should test the air conditioner cold or hot
This must be the new bus simulator 2022 what system can I play this on?
You can play it on that PlayStation RealLife 2
what mod is this?
Do you own that shuttle company? Or do you just drive?
Also, did you have permission to drive?!
No no I don't own the company - I used to work there as a driver, a dispatcher, and other fun stuff. I now work elsewhere but will drive for them every now and then.
@@eugew23 did you drive any new flyer buses like a D40LF/D40LFR with an ISL/voith?
OMSI with ray tracing

hello that bus looks from the 1900s
Jeez. I thought it was some old Mercedes bus from '90
💯👌👌👍👍🔥

this is my dream job, being a public bus transport driver. what are the basics for becoming a bus driver? what's the minimum age to be a public bus driver?
Don’t quote me but I think it’s 18 or 21
u would need a CDL then you would go to the transit agency to put in a application then if accepted u would go into training
That sounds like Alexander Dennis Enviro400MMC
where is the turn signal button located at
On the floor by your left foot.
@@eugew23 oh okay
Voith automatic gearbox?
Yup!
Tyler have any questions
and again... A few videos before it i thought similar video was ETS2 with mods, now i thought it was Bus Simulator with graphics mod XD
You left your high beams on…
Sometimes I really wish Mercedes-Benz still using O405 design on their new buses like Gillig do to theirs new buses
Transmission voith DIWA good!!!
2:27 why do they make that loud scraping noise
Not sure, but it seems to be a trademark low rpm Cummins noise
@@eugew23 I was able to find out it’s the torque converter locking at the same time the transmission is making a gear change
굉장히 오래돼 보이는 버스인데 오토라는게 놀랍네요.
Even Daewoo BF101 looks more modern than this
steering wheel looks like it came straight from 1960s
Americans are more traditional with aesthetics.
@@jamesfrench7299
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. North American buses are designed for easy and inexpensive repair and servicing. That’s why many of them have split windshields, cheaper to replace one side instead of a one-piece windshield.
Thats A D40LF!
NovaBus LFS looks more modern than these classic designs
Design is almost 30 years old
This is not a game?
I like ripta bus
