    Just discovered your podcast and I really enjoy your personality! You are very charming and the way you explain things is very helpful and clear. I totally agree with you about the first photo of the Ranunculus pattern page. I passed it by for months before I started seeing others knitting it and realized it was actually something that I would like. I have still been putting off knitting it but, after watching your video, I am more ready to dive in. I also love that you go back and fix your “mistakes” - something that I don’t always see others doing. I have adopted this mindset after watching Sarah from the It Is A Sarah podcast and I will keep after my knits until they are something that I am completely happy with. Your sweater looks great on you! Thanks for your video - I will definitely keep watching.

    Loved your video!!! It has given me some motivation to pick up my Ranunculus again. I keep loosing stitches, but I have to admit I love meditative knitting not attentive knitting so I am not giving it the attention that it deserves. And....I am not using the easiest yarn. I am knitting it with one strand of silk mohair and one of a very fine unspun yarn.... Yours is a gorgeous colour...and yes...that green on you would look great!!

    LOVE the color you picked for your sweater!
    I also recently made the Ranunculus and hesitated for the same reasons (those example photos are just not my vibe!). My friend made a STELLAR version of it so I had to try. Ended up starting 3 times because I just wasn't happy with my sizing, but with that friend's help, I was able to understand more about garment construction and make the adjustments I needed to get the fit I wanted. Now I'm just sad it's summer and too hot to wear it!

    Fun to find your video as the Ranunculus has been popularized for at least 2-3 years now?
    That said, #1-my second version is my take on a ‘fade’- using single skein yarns that work together (imho😅). #2-my first is knit with one strand of mohair and 1 dk, love it as well!
    #3-happening now, I’m using 2 strands f fingering for my granddaughter who feels that the mohair will itch. I’ve way underestimated my yardage, the basic neckline of course doesn’t stretch as the previous two have as this is a different fabric. Yoke and held sleeve stitches are now blocking and I’ve gone stash diving for another coordinating skein to use. Heck it’s only knitting, right?
    I’ve enjoyed your video!👍🏻🧶😍

    Your purple version is SO nice--good for you. To me the different striations makes it interesting and does not compete with the pattern... but maybe that's just me. You've inspired me to try one in fingering weight!!

    Thank you so much for sharing in this video. I decided to finally try my hand at a Ranunculus sweater and I did the exact same thing you did, used the wrong size needle. Don’t you wonder sometimes how we manage to do that. I knit it up on a 6mm needle and just could not figure out why this pattern was not working. After about three different attempts I decided to take a break, came across your video and (I gave my head a shake!). I was using the wrong size needle. Fortunately I do have a US 10 and 8 in my supplies and so right away recast the neck. So happy I saw your video. (I’m Sue in Orangeville Ontario Canada, 70 yrs and working on my knitting skills. I also have a RUclips channel (something new for me) CounselorSue - Creativity & Living Life. I knit and share that on my channel and I share other living life experiences.) Cheers!

    Hi Rachel. I’m in the U.K. and you popped up on my recommended list. I’ve seen this sweater for some time now and it scares the pants off me! I’m a novice knitter and have only discovered knitting on cable needles rather than straight. I did enjoy your video and like you I was concerned with how much positive ease I’ve seen on nearly all the knits. You say it’s good for beginners but will they and me, know how to adapt the pattern to a non-boxy sweater? I’m not sure I would or could. You didn’t mention this which might have been good for me but perhaps you thought the pattern explains this. Maybe one day I’ll tackle it but knitting for me is a winter craft, so I’ll have to wait a while. Thank you again for a very lighthearted & enjoyable video. Love your pooch.

    • @rachelisknitting
      @rachelisknitting  Год назад +1

      Hello! So glad you found me! As for the boxy fit - I followed the pattern for the body construction. I changed how I hound off the sleeves and also made the hem ribbing a tad shorter than the ~4” listed in the pattern for it, but as for the shaping I made no modifications! I think the boxiness in the modeled photos is due to the massive amount of positive ease and the heavy weight of the yarn in the samples photographed. My recommendation for you is to choose a size with the amount of ease you prefer and don’t sweat the rest!

    What a cutie! You are a pleasure to watch, Rachel :) and such sunshiney personality! I clicked on your vid because I am almost finished with my second Ranunculus (cashmerino fingering held with suri) and it is pure luxe! Im knitting them all in this combo. I just really love engaging with other knitters who also love this pattern. I intend to knit about 8,435 more of them. Already have hoarded the yarn for them HAH! (Okay, maybe just 5-6 more). I love the yarn you chose. it is the perfect variegated choice adding personality to your project without taking away from the pattern details. Definitely subscribing too because I feel you are someone I'd sit next to at a knit night! XO!

    Try tosta tee by Rebecca Clow (Creabea) and make sure tolook at the variations among her test knitters. Fun to play with yarns, yarnover laces, etc.

    Hi! I really enjoyed your video and your personality! I would go with the solid green for your next ranunculus. I am a fairly new knitter and am currently knitting my first sweater. You have given me the encouragement to try this pattern.

    I loved your detailed breakdown. I have to say, the ranunculus is not a beginner friendly pattern at all, and here is why: the entire pattern uses abreviated knitting code terms with very little plain English. It contains -unusual cast on techniques -short rows -knitting in pattern at the same time as creating garment shaping as well as the need to adjust the garment to different lengths to suit yarn differences. For a true beginner, any one of these techniques might present a challenge, and would be great skills to learn one at a time. I picked up this pattern in my 2nd year of knitting(having successfully knitted lace, short rows, ribbing, sweaters of yoke and raglan shapings) and I was utterly baffled by the instructions. I put it aside for a later date and recently revisited it, and found that it is still very pattern gibberish heavy, not very thoroughly talked through, not a hold your hand knit along, not a share the conceptual framework either. It’s a lovely pattern but far from accessible to a true beginner. Your mileage may vary, just voicing an alternative perspective on it!

    ❤ Dear Rachel, I really enjoyed this video! And because of that I can forgive you for making my ears bleed. Not only enjoyable but super informative and very good instruction. I have been looking at it on Ravelry for a long time too and had the same thoughts as you expressed. Just this week I was feeling the need to cast it on with the yarn I bought for it some time ago. I certainly would have run in to challenges had you not produced this video and had I not watched it. Please do more videos as I am not an advanced knitter yet. Your Ranunculus is fantastic in colour and fit! I so want to tour Ireland. I had a trip booked and paid for and then the pandemic hit. I also have a green colour for my Ranunculus in Berroco Light Remix in the colourway Leaf. Thank you and all the best to you, I look forward to your next video. Joyce
