Ooh you haven't said it yet, but I think that's your california sweater! I just watched her cast. btw, I started following your casts because she mentioned you a while back! When you show us the clips with sweaters as worn, I wish you'd dooo so for a little longer. Wow! I'd forgotten about "Save my Stash" I hope that will be fun for you two. I don't want to offend by correcting, but I think you mean "lanoLyn" (not lanonin). But for some folks--if you've heard about folks having "wool allergies"--it may be the lanolin that their skin reacts to. I love the colors of the wool and your spinning of it!

On the subject of time spent knitting: the girls on Two Purls in a Pod came up with the beanie metric - how many beanies is this project equivalent to? In terms of time and effort spent making. The larger the project, the more beanies, but also more difficult projects would mean more beanies. E.g. a stockinette raglan sweater might be like... 6 beanies. An intricate lace project might be 10? It's good because it takes into account that difficulty level is relative! Something that's difficult for me might not be difficult for you. They said it offhand in a video but it's actually a useful way to think about projects!

Hello from Swansea IL. This is my first time watching your podcast and I subscribe to it.

P.S. I definitely see the point that people are making re: making socks by cranking them on a machine vs. making them by knitting them yourself on needles. It is similar (to me) to the breadmaking thing. People used to ask me why I didn't just get a bread machine and make the process so much faster and easier. I have never thought it needed to be faster or easier to make bread. And I have never been interested in getting a bread machine. Same for a knitting machine. But that's ME. I think people should mind their own business and do what THEY want and ignore what others are choosing to do. Unless people have something positive to say (definitely in the fiber/making world) they don't need to say anything. Just my opinion of course.

Sorry, but the tour is about 5000€. And you buy lots of wool ect. I don't think it is very unreasonable to ask you to one time pay 200 $ for the comfort of your viewers. Who in turn also supply you with money/opportunities to make such trips and make money of the same trips. That comment felt very of to me.

😂 I've only ever made flat sweaters and cardigans. Top down to me I scary. I started knitting when I was 4 and am now 73. So do the math😊

your azucena looks lovely. Maybe find a tv show to binge and just sit down with it? I agree about the lanolin, a very nice bonus while you spin! I don't know much about where/when it gets removed in the wool production process, but we don't tend to see it much in most yarns, especially the more commercially produced ones. If you find out any more about it, I'd love to hear about it.

Your "inside out" cowl looks great! One way to clarify what side you want showing is to describe it as "the public-facing" side. No matter what side the pattern calls "wrong side", if you want that "wrong side" showing, it might be easier to describe it as public-facing. I only suggest this because I, too, have struggled with trying to explain what the heck I was trying to do with the "right side / wrong side" of a pattern. :-)

Rachel, thank you for filming the gleener in action. This was useful to me as I specifically got on google searching for how well it works. Now I’m going to check out the rest of your channel because you come across delightfully honest and pleasant.

I know I'm quite late to watch this and comment, but I also have similar strong feelings and frustrations. I think you are 100% correct that this was a confluence of several factors, including your chosen size, gauge inconsistency (though I think this is less of the issue), generally what styles look good on YOU, and (most of all) how the pattern was graded. It does not work to just upscale numbers because other measurements do not usually increase proportionally to bust size. Ysolda Teague has a wonderful very technical podcast episode on this topic if you are interested. This is why compound raglans work really well on everyone and the currently very popular drop shoulders often do not.

You are a delight to listen to, I love your humour. I can't imagine why anyone would be mean or rude to you. Life is too short to do things like that and I'm glad that you obviously don't let such things upset you. I am looking forward to your next trip to Ireland and wish I was joining you in person.

I really do like your faded/not really faded Dopio pullover. It’s beautiful even if it’s not what you envisioned. I’ve been there. I have learned I am happier with a fade if the yarns all have similar color value as they blend much more easily.

I watched your Ireland video, I think it was the first one you did where you were on a boat going to an island for a couple days. I say that because you had a beautiful purple turtleneck sweater on that I cannot stop thinking about. If you have any idea as to what I’m talking about, can you please share a pattern with me?
