I knew a girl back when I was living in California who was 7 years older than me, so she would of graduated in 1973. I was looking to see if I saw Diane, but I think this video was before her time. Very interesting, and I believe she still lives in Downey. I miss her.
I graduated HS in 1965. These were the days when boys carried their books in their hands and girls in their arms pressed against their chests. We didn't have fancy backpacks in the far distant past.
I don’t even think I brought a purse to school. If I needed something like aspirin I probably had some in that little plastic pencil carrier in my binder.
@WingsandBeer wrong there were greasers and rockers from that time there around somewhere probably with all the other burn outs under the football belchers or the nearby park 😂😂
Downey, California (A suburb of Los Angeles) is best known as the town where the Apollo command modules were built. I wonder if they ever considered changing their sports nickname to Apollos or Astronauts.
Carpenters graduated years before me but many my teachers told stories when the Carpenters fid go to downey. I was there in the 80s. Sad the city motto was changed from Home Of Apollo to something more generic.
Hello! Yes, no problem! Would love to spread as much creativity as possible! Please share a link to your video in the comments when you are finished, would love to hear and watch :) (If possible try to credit the channel, if not no worries!) thanks!
A much better time in the USA. Now days students and thier parents have to wonder each day, is there going to be a Mass shooting at the school today. Disraceful nothing is done about such a serious problem. This was an enjoybable little video. Thanks.

Keep them coming! I love these vids and thanks so much for making them available!
Those are high-school kids?! They look like my parents!
They probably were your parents-:)
When it started, I thought "oh cool, all the teachers are arriving,,,, wait, how many teachers does this school have!?" Lmao
It might have been "Parents Night" or a school play, so a mix of Kids and Parents most likely!
It's like looking into another world.
Not a single back pack or cell phone in sight. That was how I remember my high school days.
it's mostly all white people there. now it's like 90% mexican. what happened to the white people?
Love old footage. Still have many 8mm reels, would bring out our old Bell &Howell projector for a family popcorn and movie night, great memories

good ol days .....
The kids were well dressed and well groomed.
Where are all the illegals?
Except for the girls’ beehive hairdos.

Also, well mannered.
It's so interesting to see girls wearing skirts and dresses and looking like young women instead of like today where they all look like pole dancers.
Whoa! My dad my be running around there!
i remember this era i was 60 years old then... and now i forgot my age
Richard and Karen Carpenter went to this school during this time frame.
Thanks for the info! I was wondering if they went to this school because I knew they were from Downey.
Clothes will tell you it's sometime between 1960 and around 1964.
This has to be the 60s but the pre-hippy part before 1967
Karen and Richard Carpenter lived in Downey, wonder if they're in this clip
I wondered that as well!
They remind me of the cast from the movie hair spray 😊
Wow the older footage the more ppl are well dressed look at footage from the 1900 even the kids are well dressed

Good point! Downey also known for the hometown of the musical duo ¨The Carpenters¨

Good times 😃.
That looks like Firestone blvd near Stonewood mall..I went to Downey Continuation in 1966.
Me too, I went to DHS until 10th grade (1977), then went to Central/Columbus continuation and never finished.
They all look so well normal
Looks like early 60s
About 1965/1966 I would say.
That's what I would say 1965 to 66 maybe 67.
That red mustang around the 0:13 mark... you're right, 1965-67
@@rcastillo3629 Less 1967, as the more groovy doovy clothing and hair styles of 1967 are not there yet.
A world I wish I could go back to 😢. The memories. AMERICA 🇺🇸 THATS WHAT IT WAS THEN.
I believe Downey is also home to the second oldest McDonalds
No later than 1965.
Hi!! Would you mind if my band used some of your footage? Thanks so much X Amy

Back when those Impalas were being used as transportation instead of being turned into lowriders.
I WENT TO DOWNEY HS CLASS OF 2005 LOL
In this school went James Hatfield 😁
Everybody looked like 30....
and now 30 years olds look like 18 😂😂
Was there any latino students at the time ?

The violence was largely underreported. Rape and murder were pretty prevalent.
@@VM-yd6zq We know that always existed sherlock, society was definitely more sane back then with less single mothers and more nuclear families.
Now they can retired
