@@ronhoover5516 You got that right. Summer just doesn't feel the same. I really miss those lazy summer days. What i miss the most is back then you didn't have much to worry about.
For people who were there...there was an absolute magic about this time 80 81 82 ...and 83. It was a time where you knew every song on the radio. When people talked about the same shows...Love Boat Dynasty Solid Gold Dallas and Fantasy Island. When people talked about the Blue Lagoon or Little Darlings or My Bodyguard. Teenagers talked about Friday the 13th ... People danced at clubs and went roller rinks where they played pop and disco. The early 80s were really like what people fantasized about the 1950s. Lavern and Shirly ruled and even short lived shows like Californis Fever were fun. RUclips makes these times real again. After 83 and into 84 ...the world was never the same. In the 70s and 80s we had wild times for sure...but somehow the fun disapeared and was replaced with " attitude". 1980 thru 83 was priceless.
Yea, RUclips is a poor facsimile.. doesn't capture the collective spirit or the essence of what it felt like..but it does provide the nostalgia for the personal memories
I was not there, I just clicked on this video out of curiosity... but what you wrote is exactly how I feel about that time of my life, even though I was just a little kid. The early 80's... they were special.
@OtakuCon Back then Christian values were accepted especially by older people. Nowadays there is a hostility towards Christian values and as a result mass confusion continues to tear apart important standards.
@@je862 I didn't drive in high school, but when I went to college I had a red '66 Ford Mustang. My parents had an Audi at that time (before that, a yellow LTD wirh a black vinyl hatdtop)
1981 high school I had a dark metallic blue 1967 fastback mustang. I put a set of factory style magnum 500 mags on it with white letter tires. I remember how low the car sit to the ground. Now that I am 60 years old I drive a suv nissan. Easy to get into now . I sure miss those days back then and the mustang my first car.
I agree. .great time even though I spent the 80s ages 1-7 and was a teenager in the 90s I still prefer the 80s. I wouldn't want to be a kid in any other decade.
Wow, most of the women in this video are very beautiful. Great hair, great skin, great bodies, great smiles. Now everywhere I look people look like potatoes. What happened?
People ate bad back then too. But they played sports or worked out and got a tan and stayed fit. Nowadays it's all about computer games and well youtube. lol. They looked better and had more fun. The rules weren't as strict and you could get away with more.
Well one nail in the coffin was when they let you start refilling your own unlimited sodas at restaurants. The large size cups suddenly were relabeled as the small size and the new large size became a friggen barrel. Portion sizes at restaurants went nuts in the late 80s too.
Class of '79 here. Very cool video. Saw many familiar faces that resurfaced many great memories. That was a fantastic time to be a teen. Life was pretty smooth all-around and the sky was the limit.
I was there from fall '77 till it closed in 1980. It was such a great time and place to go to high school. The days of backyard parties with live bands and beer kegs!
So lucky were you !! I graduated in 1980 also but in Boston during bus crisis .I never got to go to school with the kids from my neighborhood we were scattered all over the city
I didn't see it in myself then at all, because I didn't want to be too vain or too overconfident about my looks, but now when I see the old pictures of myself from that year, I have to believe , Wow, I was a natural beauty then. No makeup needed! Hair was long and glossy. Eyes, hazel green colored and big as a doe's! We were so modest then. Our bra straps never even peaked out from under our tops, and cleavage was just not on display at school, not anywhere except at the beach or the pool. Minimal yellow gold jewelry worn. Sheer perfection and I thank God for the youth I had! We had fun all the time. Wholesome fun...not dark or dangerous kind of environment. Life was GOOD!
Lowell was a great school and it was a great time to be in high school. Every time I see "Fast Times at Ridgemont High" I feel like I'm watching a documentary... Sadly not only did they turn the campus into a chiropractic college, but in the last few years they sold off all of the athletic fields and built townhomes on the land. All of the still photos used in this video are pictures from the 1980 yearbook, I know I have my copy around here somewhere. Fun fact for those of you who were not Lowell Patriots, back in the 1960's The Doors played a concert in the Lowell gym.
2:29, that, THAT is what I think of when I remember the school days of the 1970s and early '80s. You could go to almost any school in America, and find a ground of kids that look a lot like this. They look so well-adjusted and 'normal.' You can almost hear the "Gimme a Mountain Dew" commerical just looking at them! Hope they're all enjoying the good life in 2016.
I was a teenager in Jr high at this time . . . But I did enjoy them days and wish I could go back and stay there . . . Don't give a flip about this new millennium crap .
idk, i really think it isn't that. i went to an almost entirely minority school in my middle school days, people segregated based on their genetics. the more muscular kids made friends with similar kids with those genetics and interests, the musicians made friends with the musicians, the teachers made friends with teachers, the black kids made friends with black kids, hispanic, white and asians all did the same as well. It is just human nature, everyone is the same. Just like how people back 20 years before your own graduation seem nice and many people have the same young personalities you met when you were that age. Life is a beautiful thing, I just wish technology didn't spoil everyone's futures. I am so addicted to computers and games, I really have missed out on 15 years of life that I could have made a difference with. I hate the 2000's with a passion. I was depressed all throughout my middleschool\highschool years, and it fucked my life up so bad. all i had were computers and games, but that might have been my problem all along.
@@powderhungry6611 "all i had were computers and games, but that might have been my problem all along." I was in jr. high in 1980. All the kids looked just like that. Weird how fashion and hair dates a certain time period. Remember O.P. (Ocean Pacific)? Cool video.
The hairstyles and outfits back then bring back a lot of memories. Love the girls in tight jeans too. I was a sophomore in high school in 1980 at a large school in NY but the styles were the same coast to coast. Thanks for sharing this. I'm glad I found it.
Yup. I can hardly think of any fat kids in my high school back then. Not by today's standards anyway. Especially the girls, they were almost all pretty trim.
My 4 brothers and sister graduated from Lowell. I was pictured in the Chior 3rd from the left back row. I graduated from La Habra High in 1983. I loved Lowell. My friends and I painted the LAST senior bench before it was sold. Thank you for the vlog!
Memories right there! I went to high school in Montebello, but I also graduated in 1980. Watching this video brings me back memories of Montebello High School.
Thanks for video. I graduated from Lowell in 1977 great school and people. I remember the campus did not have a fence around it, could also always get to my locker to do the home work I didn't want to do.
Look how naturally pretty girls wear back then and how everybody's thin and in shape. Everybody looks like they're 25 .... Always thought that was odd.
1979/80 school year was a freshman just graduated from 8th grade Class of '79....graduated my senior year in high school CLASS OF '83...The late 70s/early 80s were VERY FUN times.
Yep, a great period to go to school anywhere. We were gratetful for what we had and used our resources. Nothing was handed to us on a plate. The youth of today suck big time.
I started high school in 81 , I love videos like this because I always wonder what these people are doing today and if they would remember or what they would think of these photos today
@L P . . You should only hope to live as long as us . . .I'm 55 years old and yeah I plan on being around in 20 more years . . . I'd be 75 years old . . . But a lot of people lived longer than that . . And yeah I do have grandchildren now . . . And very proud of it . . . Just hope and pray you live long enough to get to be a grandparent .
We may have looked older back then . . . But we were a lot prettier than y'all .. . Yes you didn't notice that part . . . But take notice of this. 🖕 . . And that comes all the way from the '80s special for you .
Some kids today have pretty much the same look, but the majority look pretty scruffy to go along with their shitty over the top disrespectful attitudes.People laugh, but damn, simple stuff like 100 % white cotton socks that fit without a problem - not the overpriced cheap (non fitting) filler material socks they sell now etc.
Just looking at these pictures, you can tell this was a cool school. 1:57 back in the day - "Property of {insert school name here} Athletic Dept" was the 'in' thing to wear 2:11 the guy she told you not to worry about-now they have 3 grandkids 3:11 every football team photo looked like this back then
I bet it was so nice to have outside hallways and areas with tables to enjoy the fresh air. It was too hot in Texas for us to have this kind of setup at school. My boyfriend lived in Whittier, CA in the 80's graduated from La Habra HS though. He's been in TX since 89 and never looked back. He said CA is not like it was when he was a kid there. From the stories he's told me it sounded like a great place to be at that time.
I was a teenager in Jr high at this time and hell I was having great time . . I. Want to go back and stay . . Don't care about this monkey shit show new millennium crap nowadays . . . But yeah it was great back then . . . Sorry you were to young to remember any of it .
Silent photographs Wistful music Other times, other lives. We look back at ourselves As though strangers They smile and wave Wishing us happiness As we leave them forever behind (Class of ‘82, but US east coast!)
A very cool video. I dated Gale Minehart 1962-1964. Didn't go to Lowell but was on campus many times. A very good vibe always. They closed Lowell just like they closed Sierra High where I attended for a year before going to Army and Navy Academy, Carlsbad. Fond memories....
+AND PEGGY! People knew not to smoke then neither but they did and still do. Yes medicine has come further but still no cures for lots of illnesses. As for fashion sense. .meh..People either look extremely ridiculous nowadays or extremely boring. In 30 years or even less people will be laughing at the fashion of today. Guys in skinny jeans? Ew. It's already laughable. Back in 1980 people were laughing at the clothes of the 50s /60s. I was not born yet when this video was taken but a few years later but going by what people who were adults and teens back then it was a better more carefree sociable time. I remember the 90s being the same. Sure lots of bad things happened back then but post 9/11 this world has gone to shit. Theres too much technology whereas back then there was a balance. People didn't sit around on social media all day. Music and movies rarely have any originality now. I could go on but I won't. .it was just better back in the day.
@@milmet3553 . . Who cares . . It was better times back then . . . And chances are you wasn't even there back then . . . You're sitting there running your mouth about things you know nothing about . . . If you wasn't there then you don't know so shut up .
I graduated from Lowell in 1966. I knew Gale Minehart. I hope Johnathon reads this. I have huge memories from living in Orange County; I'm originally from, and live back in, Ohio. The music scene I experienced still staggers me.
When schools were 90% white, the campuses were open, we had lockers, and report cards were handed out by the teachers, instead of mailed out, in fear of student violence.
@@ceoofmemes1967 La Habra High School in 1974, report cards were handed out by teachers aids in the sixth period. All the teachers had moved to the front office and the La Habra Police were stationed at the front of the building... I WAS THERE.
These pictures look exactly like my class 78, pre big hair perms. Great time to grow up. Absolute freedom to do things that 5-6 years later were getting locked down on kids.
I remember watching this video going into my freshman year of high school and now I'm in my sophomore year of college. Time flies just need to experience it now.
I was in 5th grade from fall 1979 to late spring 1980 and it was quite different than today's society. People talked to you then. Teacherst had control of classrooms then. Gym class you had to take showers. I don't know of gym class still exists today! People did look mature then. Girls dressed very nice and skirts and dresses were worn too. I remember overalls being popular at the time.
had i finished high school (i didn't) i would've graduated in 1986. be that as it may i most definitely remember people were for the most part much thinner then than they are now. no doubt.
Hi Bonnie. Sorry 'bout the typo, I meant GAYE not Gail...don't know where that came from. Anyway good to have your reply. I Iived in Whittier...many a night crusing Whittier Blvd. and hangin' at Bob's Big Boy. Best wishes old school.
And not a cell phone to be seen. Nice. I usually don't like music that accompanies videos like this, but this music was very nice and unintrusive. Great choice!
We were the last of what we knew as free people. The world has changed alot in 41 years and we missed our 40th last year because of covid. Life still has alot in store for all of us older folks!
People were naturally more fit and beautiful back then ! I was 4 that time but I remember the early eighties in Texas . Compared to now , people were nicer , more attractive , when you saw an overweight person it was rare ( debunk the argument obesity is a medical thing it’s not ) and ever other person is a potential model . This is a cliche I know it but it … was .. really … a magical time ! 80’s movies in high school .. it was JUST like that . Not lying . Feel sorry for kids these days not experience that .
I always admired how California high schools were so laid back and all the outdoor tables and lockers and things. Where I went to high school you'd BETTER not be caught outside during the school day! That was suspension city! The hunky guy with his shirt off. That would never happen either. Fishnet was really big in those days and totally forbidden. You weren't allowed to show body hair so men's sleeves had be long enough that when you raised your arms you didn't see hair. You shaved your chest or wore a t-shirt undershirt if you had any chest hair. Sex didn't happen. Babies were born via osmosis. Whole different world in the south. Girls no bare midriffs. No push up bras. Skirt had to come to just below the knee cap. Nothing thin enough where you could see the outline of a bra. And the kicker was if you were caught out away from school not following this dress code the consequences stuck. Just like fighting. If the school heard of a fight anywhere in town over the weekend. The fighting parties were promptly suspended.
I'd go back and do it again if I could. Today is nothing like yesterday. Kids think their adventurous today - not even close to what we did back then. We had no screens or anything like it, we were outside all the time hanging with our friends and getting into everything we could.
Damn right . . . Me and my friends hung out and always got into something . . . We didn't just sit around doing nothing . . . And the good thing is we always found something to get into . . Hahaha 😂
My older sisters graduated from Lowell 66-67 then we moved to CalHi area. Sad to see Lowell go. I have a hard time believing the kept La Habra High, instead of Lowell… Must have been some rotten politics behind it all. Then, and especially today, Id rather live near and go to Lowell, than La Habra High. Actually I attended La Habra High one year, when report cards were given out the teachers would lock themselves into the front offices with La Habra Police stationed in front, to protect for the 'element' unhappy with their grades. Lowell - La Habra totally different universes.
I graduated in 1984, so just 4 years after these guys. My older brother graduated in 1980. My class looked very similar to this - long, feathered hair parted down the middle for most boys, although the "preppy" look of parting your hair on the side and cutting it shorter was starting to get popular. Girls with "big hair" or the same as boys, parted down the middle and feathered, but longer. The one thing that struck me watching this is the body shapes - you can't find a "fat" kid in any. picture. Even the girls softball team members had normal physiques. Compare that to today, where half the team are as big as football linebackers. Same thing with the linemen in the football picture - none fat, just bigger. It's not unusual for every high school team now to have lineman approaching 300 pounds. Everyone looked so trim and healthy - before there was a fast food restaurant on every corner and video games at home and cell phones. You had to get on your bike and ride to the mall if you wanted to play video games, and you played them standing up, and they cost money. Great time to have grown up!!
Turned 13 in 1980. What a great decade to grow up in. Life was simple and summers lasted forever.

I remember the summers in the 80s. Clear blue skies and days lasted forever.
Agree. Now summer starts Friday of Memorial Day weekend and ends July 5 when Walmart tells us it's over. It's a zoo we've created for ourselves.
After the Clintons showed up, we went downhill.

Wow, did they really! Doors I mean…

2:29, that, THAT is what I think of when I remember the school days of the 1970s and early '80s. You could go to almost any school in America, and find a ground of kids that look a lot like this. looks like a good school to have gone too. The kids seem so happy
idk, i really think it isn't that. i went to an almost entirely minority school in my middle school days, people segregated based on their genetics. the more muscular kids made friends with similar kids with those genetics and interests, the musicians made friends with the musicians, the teachers made friends with teachers, the black kids made friends with black kids, hispanic, white and asians all did the same as well.

44 years since they graduated. 40 years before before they graduated was 1936. Time flies
Great time to have grown up!!
those were the days
I was class of '77... it really harshed my buzz when i heard it closed... went to Rancho Canada too for Jr. high
