Its nice to see the Baby Webster and Bennet vertical borer still being used in the world, as an apprentice I grew up in the 1960s using the 36" table model the guy is using and ended up on the 144" table model. We soon learned that if you used the correct feeds and speeds, with correctly ground tools with chip breakers, That the material would come off in chips not string like in the video, very dangerous and the easiest way to loose fingers or get dragged into the machine. Still very interesting and like any heavy engineering shop way different from the world of CNC.
I worked for a company that supplied the tooling to Delphi and other steering companies in Michigan. I always heard chips were better than strips, as well. I also fabricated industrial vacuums to collect the material, which chips were definitely easier for that 😉
I appreciated the final QC, counting the marks on the shaft to make sure it was set for 27 teeth. Also, using double cheater bars to torque the hold down nut was a nice touch!
Every time I watch those kinds of videos, it’s really exciting. They're probably doing the best they can under the circumstances, but unfortunately, from an engineering perspective, all that gears is just junk.🤷♀️
Watched this video, and have some concerns on the machining process: 1) Has anyone given thought to the damage those lifting chains can cause those machine gears. Wouldn't nylon straps be better? 2) Has anyone heard of a table? Why place these finely machined gears on a dirty floor? 3) The fella who places the large wrench on the big nut, then uses a pipe as leverage -- he just slams the pipe in without concern for damaging a gear. 4) These gears have to be tempered at some point. But not shown. and 5) I see some machining damage at the top of the lower gear at the end (31:25). Can anyone else see it?
Remember where those original machine tools were from, I guess it must have been from Great Britain, the founders of the Industrial Revolution, but fair play to the yanks they are extremely quick to recognise and use new technology.
No guards, no useless fxxking saftey signs, no yellow lines on the floor. Just highly skilled guys. Need some coolant on though and hot turnings and sandals is hard core
Love the safety standards.. No hearing protection no vision protection not even close to safely shoes with all the steel shavings all over the floor.. Great job otherwise
I really admire and high looks on the fabricator of gear cutter. Its great as with out the cutter there would be no helical gear depending on its usage. Your a great fabricator snd great worker .
The heavy machining done good take some safety during work or job protection needed but all the small scale industry can not purchase all instrument is truth like this vedio & the great skill required to work this environment.
There are always common denominators in these videos. One no safety equipment, two they are always squatting on the ground in dirt.… the level of security or sophistication blows me away.
Based on the way it cuts and the obvious lack of any quality inspection, I would say that is very poor quality steel. That and the carbide blades they are using are very dull, I've done much machining in my career and the finished product there was poor.
It costs nothing to sweep the damn floor and get rid of tripping hazards, and peanuts to give those guys proper steel tipped boots, hardheads, and eye protection. Although this one must be highly reputable shop, they just wouldn't do it. I have seen it everywhere in SE Asia, from Pakistan to Thailand to Vietnam. It has never changed since my first exposure to it back in 1985. Total contempt of the entire industry for personal safety.
Haarstreubend was die da machen.

Gentlemen, congratulations on the beautiful job, greetings from Brazil

They give absolutely nothing for protection, cleanliness and order !!!
But they really have skills !
5s nota zero
Good to see they're wearing their safety sandals 😂
I would to send them some steel toe work boots.
I would think the steel shavings would get into the sandals and irritate the feet.
it's ok ... they were not comfortable with their slippers... 😂😂😂😂😂😂
@@AuditReconno They Don’t like were the steel shoes They only ware sleepers coz too hot to

You're a jalous gay
Amazing machining. But I have to say, loose clothes and spinning things never mix. Be safe!
And their steel toed work boots…..
As a machine shop owner. That entire video was cringe.
Bless their hearts.
You are doing amazing work with limited facilities. All workers are highly skilled. God bless you. Nice video 👍🏻

We,the US have all the advanced technology on all fields of manufacturing.
But it was the men who were Conventional Machinist who built this country.

Amazing workmanship something to really be proud of.

First of all: no unions!
@@anasztazia. Or even labor laws. Heck, I doubt there's even a real government.
I love long shirts near rotating mechanisms. OMG! they are so hard working but no safety!
👍👍👍👍👍💞💞💞💞💞
It's so fascinating, I could watch it all day!🎉🎉🎉
Not only is the size of the peacock amazing, but the fact that they were able to create a ring of that size is an incredible feat!
I like your vertical lathe. I run a lathe for a living too very good work.
Amazing,, i like your video,,,,, ❤❤
A lot of skills here , precise measurements,
great work, the shop could use a broom on the floor now and then .
Precise? Are you mental?
Bravo 👏 excellent work!

Actually not because there was no hardening

If you stick the tool holder out a little farther, you’ll get a lower frequency howl.
Need to use more Earl (oil) I understand money is tight and every dollar counts but it will help you more than hurt you my fellow fabricating friends.
It’s the health and safety shoes that always crack me up 😀⚙️⚙️
By the DOC and stick out of the boring bar, the bottom has to be undercut severely. Just make a shaft to fit lol.
This is the sort of shop inwhich I served my apprenticeship.

Great numbers of lathes.
Are they steel toe capped flip flops
Those steel-toed 'boots' look a bit different. I can't imagine the injury rates. Great skill, though.

I always tried to make tool holder stick out as short as possible to reduce chatter and obtain a better surface finish.
