To be fair. You dont get many shows of a villain being a main character?
Only other one I can think of is the Harley Quinn show, more recently Kiteman show.

This skeleton (his name is Momonga) is a real undead and the main character of the story. It is difficult to call him a villain, but his actions are as cruel as possible and do not fit into the concept of goodness. To his own people he is an absolute being, but to others he is evil in the flesh. And this is not a game, but a real fantasy world (He was in the game, He got into the REAL fantasy world. Some people think that he got into the game, but this is a monstrous mistake)
He commits evil actions or condones evil actions, he’s basically evil. The only thing you could argue is that he does have an inclination to do evil things, but that doesn’t change his actions

What I always say to my friends who are going to see Overlord is that for me what you are watching is the point of view of the "Villain" of that world. It doesn't mean that he will only do "evil" but he will do What you need to get "what you want". I like the anime because it doesn't hide the "shit it does" and for us who are already adults we know that.We are the villains of many people too. Lol
They Just released a movie for this show this month and they are working on a 5th season for this show but it takes years between seasons.
Kinda sad to wait for peak, but at the same time I'd rather wait a year more or so and get a masterpiece than if they rushed it so it is worth the wait.

To clarify a little on what others have said.
The story of Overlord is near its end and the upcoming 5th season is highly likely the final, unless they cover the last bit of the story with another film.
The Overlord film called, The Sacred Kingdom, came into limited theaters here in the West back in October; And will likely come to streaming sometime early next year.
The film takes place between the events of Season 4 Ep 7 and 8; Personally I would hold off till the film comes to streaming but its up to you.
Please react to Overlord series. Its top tier Fantasy with huge level of world building and lore similar in scale to series like Witcher or Elder Scrolls.
I don't know if this has been mentioned here before. The ending images are illusions from the books and are specific to some scenes. They are beautiful because the artist is wonderful and very well-known.

While ending 1,2, and 4 are done by myth&roid and they swapped doing the opening and ending for season 3
I always get a laugh out of people trying to figure out if the skeleton guy is the villain or the main character. The answer is "yes".
The anime is still ongoing, there is a movie coming out this year and i have been eagerly anticipating it. I recommend this anime to anyone i know that likes anime. This is currently the only anime to get me to go out and buy things to get more information about this series. I have bought a few of the light novels that went further into the story from where season 3 left off, because i needed to find out what happens next. I have not done that for any other anime i have watched yet.
This anime is like one of my most favorite anime. It has comedy but the darker theme in this show really sometimes just messed up your brain. Another anime with similar vibes that could mess up your brain is Re:zero
In terms of appeal, Overlord's is kinda like anime fantasy Isakai craziness crossed with like... Dexter.. if that makes sense. In terms of appeal. Being an undead, the main character's humanity and care for the living are basically gone, so yeah, it's about a psychopath, villain, protagonist... with the power and body of an RPG player character that already long beat the game.
overlord is a dark comedy it challenges your idea of what an "evil" character is specially if you are used to judging characters on their looks

Overlord movie is going to come out at November 8th in the theaters. So it's a very good opportunity to start watching overlord now so you can watch the movie if it airs in your area.
And the movie will be the peak of overlord as the light novels that they made into the movie are fan favorites. Even if they animated the whole movie in Microsoft paint it would've been a good movie imo because of how awesome the light novel is.
This Anime's story is really really awesome. Its definitely my 2nd fav after One Piece and i highly recommend watching it!
The best way ive heard it described is: "an H.P. Lovecraft Parody"
Also something i point out in every reaction i watch: All 8 songs (OPs and EDs) were made by 5-6 people!

One Member, Tom-H@ck, decided to make a new Group to help young talent learn the ways of the industry etc and thus came about Myth&Roid with their debut single "L.L.L" which is the first ED for Overlord sung by Mayu Maeshima who later came back as a solo artist for ED 4 (Producer was likely Tom-h@ck again).
ED 2 and OP 3 are sung by their current singer: kiHow.
He isn't a villain, he is a king, with the duties and responsibilities of a monarch, carrying the hopes and dreams of his people. Calling him a villain is like calling Alexander the Great, George Washington or Napoleon villains.
Hi! Overlord has 4 seasons 2 recap movies (1st season recaps) and a new movie that just released. The 4 seasons cover volume 1-14 of the light novels, skipping volumes 12 and 13 which is what the new movie is about. Volumes 15 and 16 have yet to be adapted but with only 2 more volumes left to be written it is likely to be on hiatus for the forseeable future.

salieron los volumen 15 y 16 que tienen de titulo "La Semi-Elfa del Bosque Descendiente de los Dioses" la misma que se ve al principio del primer capítulo de la segunda temporada... su novela será adaptada en su totalidad con un final abierto como en su novela algo que el autor va mencionando desde hace años… muy buena reacción...
estoy seguro que también adaptaran el volumen especial a pelicula... es mas un sueño húmedo de los lectores fans de overlord... pero que es cada ves mas una realidad
I don't know if anyone has told you this but the srt for the endings is done by the artist for the light novel this is based off. If I am spelling it right his name is So Bin. I also believe the art is from the light novels at the very least.
Overlord is a must-watch! I highly recommend!

As people have been saying, this show isn't black&white. It's gray for very few characters show any sort of true goodness. It isn't soft and will show some dark acts.
It's a very good adult show that shows that monsters aren't the only ones who commit evil. Vice versa as well for good. It just really shows that good and evil changes for whoever looks at it.

the world/story of overlord isnt black or white, yo can see it in the characters who all in their own mind believe they are doing the right thing so they are the "heroes" in their own story, at the dn of the day it comes down to what you are willing to do to get what you want, this series single handedly got me back into reading simply because i wanted to know more! and this was when there was only 1 season.
theres a movie coming out on november 8th in US theaters, i really recommend watching/ reading the series so you can enjoy the movie when it comes out!

@@XFizzlepop-Berrytwist the movie is over 2 hours long and they have been working on it for 2 years. they took their time and I'm glad that the animation in the movie will be better than we have seen before in the show. They don't have enough content for season 5 anyway because there is only 2 volumes past the anime, and the elf arc is only worth like 4-5 episodes

The very vast majority of openings are not actually in 60fps. When you see a video saying that an opening is 60fps, it's most likely an unofficial video where someone just threw the video into a program that makes the whole thing 60fps. This is bad in animation where fps can change from scene to scnee, and where some scenes are meant to look choppier than others. However, these 60fps programs indiscriminately make every single thing in a video 60fps, regardless of how it's animated.
So 60fps videos really mess up the animation of openings. Just a heads up.

It will make you feel sorry for the good guys and yes the skeleton is main character
Opening 1, 2 and 4 are by OxT... Opening 3 is by Myth&Roid.... Ending 1 and 2 are by Myth&Roid... Ending 3 is by OxT... however Ending 4 is only by the former main vocalist from Myth&Roid called Mayu Maeshima
Most anime series tend to go for that realism in terms of (thers no black or white, its grey) so trying to find a villain or some sort of good guy is pointless most of the time. Experience will teach a lot eventually.

Also the Elves, Aura and Mare, cross dress. So Aura who looks like a boy is a girl, and Mare who looks like a girl is a boy.

If you want to go by stereotypical archetypes the skeleton is both the main character and the villain.
That being said that is far too simplistic for this series.
But I will say this in overlord, evil wins. This is a story about how it happened.
The best thing you can do is watch the show.
