"There are millions of satellites in orbit around Earth". Yeah, no. About 2000 odd. And even then, the majority of them are not designed for scanning and detection.

This movie claims the Boov don't understand ownership but they have their own houses and use possesive pronouns and possesive adjectives when they speak.
More sins: The only clips we get of people saying “oh” when he enters a room are in his adulthood so did oh not have a name until then? How did no one see the giant thing in the sky that was clearly not the moon? Why does Kyle wear goggles?
6:19 wait that’s actually suspicious because if oh just wanted to invite boov to his party in his room it would have said “go to sector 179 room bla bla” but he instead includes the directions to earth, it makes me think oh sent the invitation to the whole galaxy on purpose
He forgot to sin something very important. Where the hell were all the military and space agencies throughout the entire movie? Even if they only took action when the Boov took away the gravity, there would have been at least several dozen pilots who were in their planes doing test flights, and they would have at least tried to shoot the mothership
the thing is, most of it made sense in the book, so it’s not like it’s impossible to make it make sense. the book was better in possibly every way. no matter how much i hate to be the “tHe BoOk WaS bEtTeR” guy.
Here's what I'm wondering tho: Why is it every time a random person makes a comment on a movie or show, someone in the comments continuously mentions "It's JuSt a cARtOOn" or "It's jUSt a mOViE", but when this person does it, it's not a problem?
@@davidmays8974 Excuse me, have you ever watched this channel before to suddenly realise the self-referenced CinemaSins motto of "we're not critics, we're assholes"? If you're looking for serious criticism instead of humour I'm afraid you're gonna have to see other channels.
So i happen to have a life hack app and one of the hacks says that if you don't like how you look in public just sit down in walmart for about two hours and then feel better about yourself
Additional sin(s): When Oh saves the Boov with the Gorg Superchip, he shouldn’t have the Superchip because he used it to fix the Slushious. Also, if the Gorg were only chasing the Boov because of the fact that they had stolen the Shusher, then why was there a Peace Treaty in the first place? Captain Smek only had a chance to steal the Shusher AT the Peace Treaty, why were they fighting before that?
The Boov clearly have no problem colonizing any planet they see fit, so the Gorg might have been the inter-planetary peacekeepers. The skulls on that one Gorg might be Boov skulls (if they even have those)...
HOW?! Did you not sin the fact that canceling the e-vite wouldn't do anything because it's traveling at the speed of light and it would take just as long for the Cancel command to reach it??!
@@davidmays8974 the closest star (other than our own) to Earth is still light years away, and the closest Galaxy is over 25,000 light years away. So this would take hella long time. In other words… you’re more than right.
tbh at some parts the series can be kinda funny. Not too much like the movie's humor, and tip got a major sass reboot which I just love. can't say the same for the movie tho.
I just want to say that “The True Meaning of Smekday” the book on which this movie was based was a really funny and interesting political commentary and I’m pretty sure the author must have vomited when he saw this.
3:49 that’s one of the things that confuses me the most in this movie. Her mom got kidnapped around Christmas yet the movie makes it seems sometime around summer? How could you fk up a timeline that bad
About the only thing that was good about this film was that it drew my attention to the book, which is actually amazing. Those of you who have only seen the film may have a hard time believing this, but there was world building and interesting characters and the whole thing was a metaphor for colonialism. Like, it was clear that the author had put a lot of thought into it, and then it got turned into... this.
Since Cheeseanonioncrisps didn't say the title of the book in the comment, it's called "The True Meaning of Smekday" and not Home. Just in case anyone is interested.
"merry christmas" "wait what" "just open it" "ok, AWW-" "gimme that" *crash* "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TIP" "DISTRACTING THE DRIVER" lol thats in my head forever
The plot of this movie, Aliens conquer Earth, abduct all the humans safely off it to a new location but a few stray humans are left behind to fend for them selves and have to stay hidden is an interesting plot. Too bad it was huddled so immaturely. You do realize a "Kids" movie CAN contain mature subject Matter. Don Bluth, Tim Burton they get it. Also "Good plot bad presentation" is the same criticism I give to "Planet 51" and a hand full of other movies I can't recall the names of right now. Also, most of this was not in the trailer.
Home=just cause 3 Evil dictator: check Illegal hero with all sorts of weapons: check Amazing gadgets that do almost supernatural things: check Grand theft auto: check It all checks out
@@alltheboysloveleah no he means New York City. You can fit everyone in the world in New York city, everyone is just pushed together. Believe it or not, 7.8 billion humans isnt gonna take up that much of space when squished together
Well to be honest, it had to happen for the movie to happen, they were looking for a world similar to one they could inhabit, and if it wasnt earth, there wouldnt be a movie
I Don’t Know Yup. It’s the same type of plot convenience Ender’s Game used (IDK if you know it?), and CinemaSins didn’t sin *that movie* for that (though it may have been less clear that the aliens from that movie were attacking a world similar to their own).
Given what we see in the flashback about how Captain Smek got the Shusher, I'm assuming the Gorg WAS trying initially to clue the Boov in that he wasn't a murderous monster but Smek's cowardice and refusal to admit he'd done anything wrong ruined their chances of peaceful coexistence.
@@poweroffriendship2.0 It tried too hard and told too many juvenile jokes, which is why it just isn't funny. Do you ever see toilet jokes in Pixar movies?
The gorg introduction into the movie was... ok it wasnt a cinematic grand moment of all time or anything but it was pretty decent use of aesthetics to convey alien danger without explicitly showing it. Smashing through saturn, sending every Boov fleeing and dropping down Borg triangles to dubstep was quite easily the best bit of the movie
When the book The True Meaning of Smekday originally did it, the story was pretty good. Then this movie got rid of all the legitimate quirkiness and replaced it with fart jokes and poorly-played alien weirdness. Personally, I don’t quite hate this movie, but I hate that the book didn’t get the movie it deserved.
Eliana S thank you! I personally love the book, and I think that dreamworks watered it down so much that I barely resembles its source material. And the book gets no credit for its brilliance and the wonderful movie it could've been.
There are remarkably few books that deserve what the movies did to them. If you expect the director to give a fuck about the book fans you'll never enjoy any of them. Which isn't bad, I can't think of any good movies based off novels except a couple by John Grisham, the LOTR movies were semi decent when compared to the novels.
Eliana S That explains the genuinely cool concepts like Oh's brethren herding people into massive colonies because they didn't want to handle them and the big reveal at the end about their "enemies".. hidden amoungst the chatter about dance-induced hypnosis and so much (literal) toilet humor.
How did we not detect their ship as it approached our planet. 3ven if you would argue it's to small. Presumably it's using some kind of energy source. Which would give of a signiture which we constantly monitor IR above the background. Radio noise above the background etc. Because we don't want foreign governments surprise attacking us or spying.
@@adog3129 I'm curious how the book explained it? By it I mean how they went undetected. Even if they hide behind something. All the monitoring equipment on earth doesn't share the same perspective. This is why you can see mars in some places while it's not visible in others. This isn't even considering the gps satellites and such that have a much greater FOV because they are in geo orbit.
oh, cool, a book, didn't know about that, might look into it, because books are usually better than the movie, and this was an interesting movie, just a little mistaken
@@johnnyancientseed4357 God that book brings up memories- I listened to the audio book as a kid, which was also amazing. I remember being so disappointed in the movie: they took out so much of the book I found interesting. Like Happy Mouse Kingdom! How her mom got abducted! When J-Lo wore the ghost costume! The duplication machines! God, I have to go reread it, it's been years
The only two sins of this movie was not making the Gorg suit just the literal look of the Gorg, and not making the theme of the Boovified car the menu music on DVD.
This is a year later but I'm commenting this because I haven't seen any comments about it yet. This video and the movie brings me so much pain. This movie was based off the book "The True Meaning of Smekday" which is one of my favorite books as a kid, and was basically my childhood. After listening to the audiobook as a kid during long drives, I remember watching this movie and being incredibly disappointed. The original book had 50x less plot holes. It was a kid book, but it still was incredibly interesting, and didn't baby the reader. It was also much more funny and creative- the Gorgs did not end up being nice starfish creatures that meant no harm, but also weren't fully one-sided. There's so much this movie cut out: the creepy story of Tip's mom being abducted before anyone really knew what was happening, the long car rides as Tip drove her and Jay-Lo (I refuse to call him "Oh") to Florida, then Arizona. Tip's complicated relationship with her mom, the whole "Happy Mouse Kingdom" mysteries, the supernatural hideouts, the duplicators, the 10 pages of "meow"s. And what's even worse is that almost none of that had to be cut out. Some was more on the dark side, but by cutting out some of the most interesting parts of the book, the movie became boring.
I don't know if you're still active, but I just want to say I was looking for this comment! I am a HUGE fan of the book and have read it multiple times, and I cringe when I compare that masterpiece to this...whatever you'd like to call it. You are truly a person of culture and I salute your comment.
@@DanKuman Op is correct your wrong. disease is a broad term that covers different ailments , some of which are caused by bacteria, viruses and other germs. bacteria can be species specific because you cant necessarily get infected by all the bacteria from a dog for example.

Where the hell were all the military and space agencies throughout the entire movie? There are millions of satellites in orbit around Earth, and at least on of them would have been able to detect the Boov spaceship. Even if they only took action when the Boov took away the gravity, there would have been at least several dozen pilots who were in their planes doing test flights, and they would have at least tried to shoot the mothership

When Oh saves the Boov with the Gorg Superchip, he shouldn’t have the Superchip because he used it to fix the Slushious.

I think they chose earth because it is close to being like there own world. (Also, it is for plot convenience.)
Well to be honest, it had to happen for the movie to happen, they were looking for a world similar to one they could inhabit, and if it wasnt earth, there wouldnt be a movie
Emily Hedt Just imagine the Boov approaching the sun and turning red, yellow, or whatever color their bodies turn into when they feel hot

This came from a book?
Eliana S thank you! I personally love the book, and I think that dreamworks watered it down so much that I barely resembles its source material. And the book gets no credit for its brilliance and the wonderful movie it could've been.
There are remarkably few books that deserve what the movies did to them. If you expect the director to give a fuck about the book fans you'll never enjoy any of them. Which isn't bad, I can't think of any good movies based off novels except a couple by John Grisham, the LOTR movies were semi decent when compared to the novels.
Eliana S That explains the genuinely cool concepts like Oh's brethren herding people into massive colonies because they didn't want to handle them and the big reveal at the end about their "enemies".. hidden amoungst the chatter about dance-induced hypnosis and so much (literal) toilet humor.
thedatatreader Actually, I’m fairly sure that the aforementioned reveal about their “enemies” is not from the book at all.
Governments on earth own militaries. Where were they this whole time the aliens invaded? We own nukes.
“There is no scientific evidence that we are being invaded by aliens.”
How did we not detect their ship as it approached our planet. 3ven if you would argue it's to small. Presumably it's using some kind of energy source. Which would give of a signiture which we constantly monitor IR above the background. Radio noise above the background etc. Because we don't want foreign governments surprise attacking us or spying.
it was explained in the book.
