This episode is such an emotional rollercoaster. The Daleks and Cybermen sassing each other - hilarious. The big fight - scary. Yvonne resisting cyber-conversion to do her duty - tragic but inspiring. The Doctor and Rose being separated and the big goodbye - tragic. A random angry bride appears in the Tardis - funny and puzzling. "What?!" is the correct response.
BTW, Catherine Tate, who plays the bride, was at the time very well known as a comedienne with her own sketch comedy show. So her turning up was sort of equivalent to one of the people from SNL or similar unexpectedly appearing in a more serious show.

When i was a child and saw the first Doctor (William Hartnell ) change in to the 2nd Doctor (Patrick Troughton) I was very sad and I told my DAD that I didn't want him to change..... DAD said "Son sometimes life moves on and things change" .....It was 3 years later that My BEAUTIFUL DAD passed..... So for me this is an AMAZING connection to the DOCTOR who I will always Love

Classic Who fans had always wanted a battle between the Daleks and the Cybermen in classic Who, but either the writers couldn’t come up with a viable story during those years or the BBC’s budget didn’t allow a battle to happen on the scale of what we had in this episode. This was fan fiction at its very best, provided by the show runner himself (and Doctor Who fan) Russell T. Davies, and he provides a satisfying conclusion to the story arc of Rose and her family.
The next episode, The Runaway Bride, is the Christmas Day special for 2006. It’s a great story and I think you’re gonna love guest star’s Catherine Tate’s character in this. Looking forward to your reaction to it.

    • @andrewgwilliam4831
      @andrewgwilliam4831 2 месяца назад +1

Might've been a rights issue. Terry Nation (who created the Daleks) used to be very fussy about what was done with them in the classic era, and mostly wrote the stories himself until he moved to the US.

I have genuinely never seen you so worked up at the start of an episode. It's delightful in a way, reminds me of when I was 11 and had to wait a week, both to see the first ever Dr Who where we had both Daleks AND Cybermen, and also waiting to see if/how Rose 'died'.

Doomsday is the saddest episode for me because Rose is my favorite character. I sobbed when she tried to say I love you and couldn't at first. Billie Piper killed it. David did as well that vacant expression kills me.

I kept watching "New Who" until I lost my source partway through Jodie Whitaker's run and I did embrace a couple of the later Companions, but none have ever truly replaced Rose Tyler in my heart. Two of The Doctor’s greatest foes, the Daleks and the Cybermen, finally together on screen and it was hilarious 😆
Doomsday I’d say is a good showcase of how the show can give you emotional whiplash. One minute you’re laughing at the Daleks and Cybermen insulting each other the next you’re upset about the departure of a Companion. And right after you see The Doctor cry you see a random Catherine Tate in a wedding dress yelling at him about what’s going on

Interesting difference. The cybermen said "You will become identical.", showing no sign of superiority of one cyberman to another. The cyberleader was simply a placeholder, that can be downloaded in another one. But in the next scene, dalek Sec demanded Rose to designate the "least important". Showing that the daleks are exact opposite to the cybermen. That even among their "inferiors", others are higher standing than others

    • @andrewgwilliam4831
      @andrewgwilliam4831 2 месяца назад +6

Yeah, that's an interesting point. I think there's one classic story in which the Cybermen had two different "officer" ranks, but otherwise they've seemed to be mostly interchangeable; whereas the Daleks have been seen to have a hierarchy almost from the beginning.

Remember that scene in Tooth and Claw, when the Doctor was listening through the wall for a monstrous wolf that couldn't break the barrier? During the original airing of this season finale, when The Doctor puts on the glasses, that was a cue to the viewer to put on their glasses for the 3-D special effect that was about to occur.
Sarah Jane had a spin-off series that came out about around this point in the show. It was called The Sarah Jane Adventures, and some of the season finales and guest appearances play into each other.

I was bawling from the pain this scene caused. My grandma run from kitchen to check on me because she thought I get harmed or traumatized (which was true, but not physically). 3:09 - Imagine if the Cybermen had first gone to retirement homes, or places where people are hungry/afraid/hurting. The Cybermen then offer everyone present a chance to be transferred into a new metal body, young, healthy, strong, and never hungry ever again. How many people would be willing to give up their current lives in exchange for having potentially centuries of life ahead of them?
5:10 - notice how fast the Dalek denied the alliance. No consideration of tactical or strategic benefits. No consideration of the Cybermen as a threat. Not even a counter-proposal of you stay on this planet we take the rest of the universe. Just immediate denial. Tells you a bit about the Dalek mindset.
12:23 - most of the Doctor's adventures are of picking the lesser of two evils while trying to do good. As a result, the Doctor can't complain when Mickey does the same.
17:15 - and then there were 20:10, 21:04, and 24:53 where the Doctor showed his emotions
18:08 - remember when the Doctor referred to the void as 'hell'? Here the Doctor is telling Rose to set all the coordinates to '6'.

A Daleks Vs Cybermen story was first considered in the 1960s, but was up against the rather powerful interests of the Dalek creator, Terry Nation. But I guess even he wouldn't have predicted that their first confrontation would be bitchy. For fans of the Cybes, it was a bit of a let-down to see them knocked over so easily. But there can only be one boss monster in this series and it's always been the pepperpots.

The thing with Daleks is that they're subject to the same laws as the Conservation of Ninjitsu. Just as one ninja is a deadly force and a horde of them are cannon fodder, a single Dalek takes an entire episode to bring down, and it usually takes highly specialised tools and an army or two. A million Daleks also takes an entire episode to bring down, and it's usually by flicking a switch.

Great reaction 🤣 I cried right along with you for the millionth time watching this episode. And yeah 😅 I agree seeing Donna right after that heartbreak was uncalled for 😅 I don't like it when the pain is undercut by humor, as much as I like Donna.

My question about there being a Torchwood in the other universe is; what was the inciting incident that caused it to be formed in that universe. We saw earlier in the season that Queen Victoria formed one version Torchwood after the werewolf incident, but specifically cited the Doctor as the main reason and enemy of Torchwood. Theoretically there isn't a Doctor in the other universe, so what was their mandate?

If someone new was going to start the show, but don't know of the whole regeneration thing...would you inform them? OR would you rather not do that and have them reach a Doctor's end only to see the body change to the next incarnation?

I didn’t like Rose’s line about this is when she’d pass on but it ended up being more metaphorical. I’d rather they had actually taken her out, or left that line out all together. Anyway, it was a great two episode ending of the season outside of that. Enjoyed your reaction as usual.

Bigger on the inside timelord science, always likely a prison, death as in other world, a metaphor they do that with writing, they tease us a lot XD the shopping weights get use, good mix of Daleks and Cybermen, and parallel worlds. Very touching episode for sure tissue worthy. I assumed the 3D glasess were for like particles/radiation or something, yep was that scene.

I love Dalek Sec (the black one). The Daleks are all independant beings but most Daleks very rarely can or will think outside of the "Dalek Imperative" which is essentially that Daleks are supreme and must destroy every other living thing in the universe that isnt a Dalek.
Dalek Sec is still driven by the urge to fullfill the Dalek Imperative but were most Daleks will be predictable and just go "exterminate", he is open to anything even smacktalking and ragebaiting. Sec is so interesting because it is pretty much the only Dalek that is different and is suppose to be and think different.

I'm not saying that on the first viewing this occurred to me, but her telling the story of how she died might have been a clue that it wasn't literal death.
Also, if you haven't guessed, there will be a lot of very emotional episodes as you watch this series.

Cyberleader: Daleks, be warned. You have declared war upon the Cybermen.
Dalek Sec: This is not war. This is pest control.
Cyberleader: We have five million Cybermen. How many are you?
    Dalek Sec: Four.
Cyberleader: You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?
Dalek Sec: We would destroy the Cybermen with one Dalek. You are superior in only one respect.
    Cyberleader: What is that?
Dalek Sec: You are better at dying. Raise communications barrier!
The conversation between The Daleks and The Cybermen never fails to make me laugh. Who knew Daleks could be so sassy lol. 🤣
    ROSE: I, I love you.
DOCTOR: Quite right, too. And I suppose, if it's one last chance to say it, Rose Tyler

It was Time Lord technology. The Daleks needed someone has the *other* background radiation travelling in a Tardis gives you (artron energy? Something like that). Which is why Mickey could activate it. Any of Rose, Mickey, Jackie or the Doctor would have worked to activate the Ark as it would recognize them as Time Lord given they've all travelled in the Tardis - which normally only Time Lords could ever do, the rest of them would never pick up hitchhikers like the Doctor does.
