    The GM for the Falcons will either look like a genius for the pick and have their QB (Penix Jr.) for the future, or not and will not only lose his job, but set the franchise back at least a couple of years because it’s usually these types of decisions that gets General Managers fired.

    • @stephenpatrick2535
      @stephenpatrick2535 16 дней назад +4

      The thing is the franchise has been set back since Matt Ryan left because they had no plan at QB. Now they have a plan and people are still complaining. They are bringing in a good QB for now and can trade after his guarantees run out and have somebody to build up they actually believe in. It’s a solid roster and they been 7-9/7-10….with Kirk can they make a couple of playoff runs and turn it over to Penix while the core is still all in their 20s.

    • @Bman32x
      @Bman32x 16 дней назад +2

      Seeing as Raheem Morris got absolutely screwed when it came to QBs or a franchise guy before, they have a long term plan. Falcons could have made the playoffs with better QB play. They have it now, and they’re developing a successor. If the O-line holds and the draft picks work out, Fontenot looks like a genius.

    • @woodygetty4727
      @woodygetty4727 16 дней назад

      They should fire the Falcons GM right now. The falcons made an incredibly dumb move. They have all that money invested in Cousins who is a good QB. The Falcons have great weapons on offense and now a good qb. The falcons should have trade down and collected a bunch of players to improve the defense and win that weak division pretty easy. I would also be worried about Penix injury tendencies. I can see why up until now the falcons are not a very good organization.

The GM saying he can sit 5 years until he plays, he will be pushing 30! Dumbest move ever. You are wasting one of your asests no matter what. No they didn’t. They created a difficult situation for Kirk Cousins 😂😂😂 huge difference!!! While he’s shocked and disappointed he needs to just focus on help getting them to the playoffs. This is the most talented roster he’s ever been on and they are young with a rising defense that’s just missing edge rushers. He literally has weapons at RB, WR, TE & they are versatile. Of course there’s no JJ on the team but as far as the offense and then having a nice O-line they better make the post season. Where Kirk fails at is the playoffs. ATL might enter season with Kirk starting but Penix Jr. Starting come postseason 🤷🏾‍♂️

    Penix is going to be a top-15 guy.. like Kirk is/was.. but spending $50mill the next two years & killing cap space when they could have brought in someone cheaper (like Minshew or Russell Wilson) and use that $$ on other needs would have been the play. They've always had the #8 pick, and Penix was -120 to be a 1st rounder up until the week before the draft.. he was ALWAYS going to be there at #8

    I’m a Falcons fan and while it’s not the pick I would’ve made given you gave Cousins $100 million.
    However the whole “you gotta have a good rookie QB on a rookie deal to compete bla bla bla. That’s a LUXURY! You hope to be able to hit on a rookie QB his first few years. That’s nice and all but the main thing is you FIND A FRANCHISE QB. That’s hard enough to do. It’s ridiculous hearing these media guys get picky and tell everyone how exactly they have to find that QB. If you find one and he’s a star from year one then great. But the main thing is you gotta GET HIM IN THE BUILDING. All the maximize contract value is a luxury.

  • @AaronWood-zy3mj

    Pretty sure the most important part of the draft is finding players that will make your team successful. Kirk also didn't "move his family from Minnesota where they were happy" his wife's family already lived here and they spent their offseasons there anyways. I'm sure they would've ended up there after he retires anyways. You can spout whatever nonsense you want right now though, we'll replay it when it all works out great later.

    i dont think the maximizing the value of ur draft is anywhere near as important as ensuring you have a franchise qb for multiple years. as a saints fan, just look at our 2017 draft where the saints hit on every pick and even tho we had drew brees, not trading up for mahomes (even tho they liked him a lot) would end up haunting them to this day and that holds up true even tho that 2017 draft class for the saints was beyond phenomenal.

    7:03 Harry Douglas gets it and is trying to not say the quiet part out loud. It’s not just Cousins coming off a pretty significant injury, the type of injury it is has a very high probability of either re-tearing the same Achilles or tearing the other one due to overcompensation. QB “market” dictated that his contract was going to be expensive, so they did what they could going from no viable starters to one now and for the future. They’re following the packers model and the longer Penix Jr goes not getting injured (2 years) is a good thing.

He is going to be in Atlanta for at least two years, and if he doesn't get the job done, they have a replacement waiting in the wings. I don't blame the Falcons one bit becaue A) Cousins is coming off an Achilles tear and B) you know they have watched what the Packers have done, drafting QBs four years before the current starter leaves. It helped the Packers stay out of the situation the Jets, Steelers and others have found themselves in with no QB to take over.

    Pretty simple. You need a QB. Kirk is a available. So you sign him. But would you like 4 years of Cousins or ideally cut it down to 2? (because as long as Cousins is QB you won't win a playoff game). So you draft a QB that might be able to win a playoff game. Because that is the goal of the season in the first place. To position yourself to advance + win playoff games. After 12 years Kirk isn't going to change. So no, he won't win any playoff games regardless of what team he is on. But he can keep the seat warm until you find someone that can.

    Is ESPN trying to fabricate another QB controversy story again?

    Harry is a lame he is to bias towards his falcons he a weak link on ESPN way to predictable... drafting a rookie QB after signing one doesn't help Falcons win now! Just like cousins can get hurt so can Penix who is himself.

    I think it shows a lack of faith in heinicke nit cousins. But still, picking a backup qb at eight is a reach 😂
