I just watched that video yesterday, I enjoy watching how creative he is. So I’m a bit of a neat freak and always hate how my stovetop looks after I fry something, but a couple of weeks ago I realized that SPRAY AWAY works wonders on appliances, not just on glass!

Watching you move through the mathematical segment, gives an even deeper respect for your abilities. Who would suspect this level of math would be required for furniture repair. This is another beacon touting your competence. I did not go forward because I wanted to see what this process would require. I know I am not comfortable to even consider this kind of repair.

30:25 Congrats Trena! I'm so happy for you that everything worked out fine with the glass. Math... I'm from Germany and we are using the metric system. Every time I'm watching wood worker videos from Canada or the US, I'm so glad that I don't have to deal with inches. Math has never been my favorite subject but inches probably would have kill me. Can't wait to see you working in the new shop. Thanks for sharing ❤

As a furniture maker in the US, I use both systems but for distinct tasks. Inch 1:02 fractions are easy to mentally halve or double which is useful for centering.

Modern Makeovers (ON resident) just yesterday did a piece similar to this one. He broke the glass😢 and couldn't afford the glass replacement. Good thing for him he owned it. I think he's a good novice likely self taught. I'm so blessed to have subscribed to you and see what a true restoration done by a talented professional (with several years under her belt) taught by an expert with decades of experience. This is my first time seeing curved glass replaced. I appreciate your education and I now know if I ever know anyone has this problem I know who they should hire. I picked up a pie(?) cabinet out of the garbage about 15 years ago. The date on back lumber was late 1890s. Has 2 doors exactly like the door in the video. I figured I could get more pleasure from burning it on a bon fire than let it go directly to the dump. But, my sister had other plans! She just hasn't gotten around to it yet. I tried to steer her towards your videos because I know she is very capable of refurbishing it. I already researched making curved glass from plexi glass. But, saved this video just in case. I love Geometry by the way. I picked up another single door(with curved glass) cabinet a few years ago at an estate sale. It was newer but I couldn't ignore $1 for the cabinet and about 30 dolls. Gave it to my sister.

Really enjoyed this episode. Years ago my aunt purchased an antique oak china cabinet with a curved glass front for me. She sent it out to be refinished. When it was finished the refinishers sat it on her back porch and the wind blew it over. Back then it was difficult to locate specialty glass craftspeople and we were never able to get it fixed. I finally sold the carcass. Wish now I had kept it.

A coincidence to share. Modern Makeovers. another Canadian youtube channel just worked on the exact same piece of furniture (but was in very poor shape). While filming, he accidentally dropped the curved glass! Distressed, and knowing of the expense of replacement, he came up with a "modern" solution that made the new version beautiful in its own right. Having seen the process and expense of replacing curved glass you had to do, I understand why he had to use wood instead!

In the past when I had to nail trim to support glass I predrilled the trim and nailed the trim down with your cardboard method and some brads that were just slightly longer than the trim pieces. I am guessing that you opted to saw the 1/8 inch off the frame with a circular saw and and edge guide. Another viable option. I agree that removing wood is much easier than wet sanding the edge of the curved glass. Thank you for sharing.

Trena, over 50 years ago at the beginning of my construction career, I worked in a wood window shop. When nailing stops in, we always laid the hammer flat on the glass. The hammering motion was really just sliding the hammer. We had a couple of special hammers for glazing points. They were square steel blocks about 2.5” square with an articulating handle. You just set the block flat on the glass and used that sliding motion. Worked fine for those glazing points. Great video on the curved glass and review of the shop drawings.

I recall my dad was once asked to build a new cabinet that made use of a legacy piece of curved beveled glass from an "heirloom" cabinet that had literally fallen (and rotted) apart. Rather than rebuilding the old cabinet, the owners wanted a new cabinet with the old glass (🙄).

Shipping glass - that's scary! The fireplace looks absolutely amazing. You worked really hard on that thing. You are always a magician. Who would have thought you would need to use Algebra in your business? That was a great video on replacing curved glass! I sure hope you get heat in the new shop very soon!! The weather here in Northeast Ohio has been terrible for a month now! Snow, rain, sleet, icy, and very cold temperatures due to the polar vortex! It just started sleeting again and has been dreary outside all day! Luckily it was dry and sunny yesterday! Stay warm!!

Great job as usual Sprayway is the best glass cleaner I have ever found. Used it religiously when I had my own glass company.

No one told me I would have to math for this video. However, did learn how to replace the glass if needed. Thank you.
Shop is coming along. Sucks that you have to wait for the thermostat.

If you can figure out the math and how to repair a curved glass cabinet door, then I’m guessing you can fix ANYTHING! Great vid!

Love learning from you! Also Bruening Glass Works near Cleveland, Ohio. He made a curved piece of glass for me for a very similar cabinet.

I don't know why I was very nervous for you. If you were nervous, you hid it very well. Great work and thanks for the idea of silicone.

This one gave me such anxiety! Not only because of the glass, but the MATH! Ugh! lol. Glad to see this one completed without incident 😅
    God Bless you Trena.😉
