I have several friends who work/have worked in hospitality, and you HAVE to love it, because if you don't it is BRUTAL.
Good news is - if you can work hospitality, you can be an amazing employee pretty much anywhere else afterwards.

So true! I'm in software now but in my early 20s I was working in a number of hotels. During COVID, one of my old managers needed help at a hotel and reached out to me. He said he only needed someone that didn't need a lot of hours, and he knew I had a full-time remote job, could I do 1 day a week for him? I said sure. Now I've been there 1 day a week (sometimes only 2x a month) for two years. I get a FANTASTIC travel discount and I get to work out my customer service muscle, which has made me better at my day job. I even got into technology because I was hired for my personality and taught the tech side. Hospitality is a great industry to get into! My teenager is now working with me at the hotel, making $15/hr, more than most of her friends, for a relatively easy job that will look great on her resume for college and beyond.

I was in a similar role (managing large shopping centers) and it is extremely stressful. It is a 24/7 job. I could be at the movies and get calls multiple times through that someone got injured on-site/ valet was full and customers were upset/ the food court flooded. And you are responsible for managing so many people. I had to leave the industry entirely a couple of years ago because I literally couldn’t enjoy my life. I gained some good experience but operations and management in retail/hospitality is not for the faint of heart
