Minecraft 1.21 is BIGGER than you think! Here's Why.

  • Really on my "here's why" trend lately.
    Today, I discuss what I think is the single biggest change to Minecraft in actual years, and why it is so sad to see hardly anybody talk about it. Minecraft 1.21 really changes how content will be made for minecraft and I don't think people fully understand the tools Mojang is giving us with this update.

      I love your content 😊. Can't wait for the next videos!
      I want to ask something about the minecraft updates. Do you think there is not much content for the other dimensions? Like most updates seem to emphasize on the Overworld, whereas the other dimensions are left on the shelf, even though the Nether and End are there own unique worlds to explore. It's the Overworld gets all the attention.

    People don’t realize 1.21 is probably close to comparable in quality and number of features to 1.14. 1.14’s features were a lot more wide-spread throughout the world and was something you were forced to interact with more while 1.21’s features aren’t that way, which could be a strength or weakness. You could argue 1.14’s texture overhaul was bigger but 1.21’s datapack overhaul is probably comprable. And 1.21 adds more balance to the game rather than breaking it like 1.14 did.

      Honestly the two updates are really similar when you sit down and think about it. Both are themed entirely around a single structure, they both have their own ominous event that is really challenging but equally rewarding, both expanded the block pools for some really lackluster building blocks, both have new functional blocks can completely change how the games future updates work, etc.

    • @EmperorPenguin1217
      @EmperorPenguin1217 26 дней назад

      Those two updates aren't even close. A huge portion of 1.21 are just item variants and didn't include a biome and 1.21 didn't have seven mobs.

      I don't agree, I was pretty disappointed by this update until they added the Ominous Potions and The Mace and all that, I do think these features will have a bigger impact on the future of Minecraft and could be much deeper features but 1.20 just had more features and introduced more new systems, with Archaeology, Smithing Trims, and mob heads playing the mobs audio, and I feel 1.20 offered more options for all types of players while this update is mostly just focused on people who like fighting mobs

    • @hhff8534
      @hhff8534 Месяц назад +10

      @@norman6524 i actually think the opposite. 1.20 only focused on aesthetic things and builders(no combat, minimal redstone), while 1.21 added stuff for everyone. new tuff set, copper set, paintings, banner patterns and sherds for builders, crafter and copper bulb for redstone, trial chambers, breeze and bogged for people that like combat, mace for pvp, and reworked datapacks for modders

    • @norman6524
      @norman6524 Месяц назад +3

      @hhff8534 1.20 and 1.21 had around the same number of new Redstone Features even if 1.21 will affect the game more; 1.20 also focused a lot on exploration and quality of life changes that made the game more consistent. 1.20 felt like it was introducing features that can affect you at multiple places in the game while 1.21 just focuses on one structure so it feels like it doesn't really affect the game as much. This is probably a better for modders due to the datapack changes but I'm not a modder so those changes don't really affect me.

    I personally see infinite potential with trial spawners and vaults.
    I’m not sure this would ever come to vanilla, but I can see most of the loot containers in most structures being fully or partially replaced with vaults, and all old monster spawners being replaced with the new trial spawner.
    The trial spawner has a number of properties that makes it intrinsically superior to the regular spawner. It cannot be accidentally destroyed. It cannot be abused as a mob grinder because it has a cool down. It functions as a container with a built in challenge that is never depleted. And it scales its mob spawns to the number of players in multiplayer.
    There’s no reason why every spawner containing structure shouldn’t have its spawners function this way. It’s inherently better game design.
    The only thing that is missing from trial spawners is that it cannot be deactivated by light like the original spawner. This is a somewhat iconic feature of the original spawner and is intuitive as light prevents natural mob spawns.
    But light sensitivity is something that could easily be added and would go good with certain structures where spawners have always worked that way, such as classic mob dungeons or the Mineshaft. It can have the effect of pausing the challenge until the spawner is reactivated by darkness.
    Come to think of it, why not play around with spawner deactivation mechanics too? Some spawners can be impossible to deactivate like the current trial spawner. Other spawners could be light sensitive like the classic mob spawner. Maybe spawners in the nether are temperature sensitive and will not spawn mobs if it’s too cold. Maybe spawners in aquatic dungeons can only spawn mobs in water. Maybe spawners in jungle and desert dungeons are sensitive to redstone power. Maybe there are spawners that are sensitive to vibrations. So many possibilities.

    • @donutstudios6353
      @donutstudios6353 Месяц назад +3

      this would actually make vault loot a lot worse- lemme explain
      trial chambers are good because vaults give you great loot like diamonds and enchanted golden apples
      but if vaults were renewable those items would be renewable (diamond and notch apple farms)
      of course, this cannot be allowed, that would be overpowered, so mojang would have to severely nerf vaults

      @Spaghetti0426 Месяц назад

      @@donutstudios6353Actually you need keys, the only way to get keys is Trial spawners and pots and chests. So it still requires a grind / fight or search for the key to open just makes it better so you don’t have to search for multiple structures with the chance of getting the same loot as the one before it. Having a cool down that is understandable would let you use keys you earned kinds like a hub system or a store ig.

    Another thing that's worth noting is that they are trying a lot harder to make the actual ride towards release consistently hype, which allows them to make almost free marketing. For instance they chose to release the 5 paintings first, get us excited for that, and then add 15 more immediately after. They teased a new music disc and then we got 3. The mace was revealed in advance with a series of small clues, before actually getting to play with it. There has not been many dull snapshots in 2024, as every week they introduce some major new future even closing in on the end. Unlike before, 1.21 really does make me want to play Minecraft in a way some prior updates have failed to for very long.

    I’ve been developing minigames with datapacks for just about 4 years now. MCStacker has both helped me learn how commands are formatted, and has also sped up my development process drastically. Absolutely worth checking out for anyone interested in commands
    I also wanna echo just how huge the item formatting changes have been. It’s simpler, cleaner, and way more dynamic. Same with the enchantment rework, though I haven’t had too much time to mess with that one yet, sadly.
    I think Mojang are currently working towards adding the ability to add your own items with datapacks, which I am beyond excited for. Gone will be the days of retexturing iron horse armor for custom weapons 😆 I really hope I’m right about this, I’m hyping myself up so much over it

This is a great update for customization and multiplayer especially because datapacks will let those doing their own servers to curate the experience to be more personal. We are also likely getting custom items and blocks because of current bug fixes and component changes (there was a bug fix from 2014 that was about blocks not retaining enchantments or a rename in an anvil when placed and broken that was marked as won’t fixed and now it’s reopened) this update is good and shows more promise than the previous 2 for future updates.
