Dr. Strange is the reason why I fell in love with the MCU! The Sling Ring is my favorite weapon!

Some trivia and a personal story about this movie, the day of Stephen’s car accident can be scene on his watch. It occurs on February 2nd, Groundhog Day, which is very fitting since he ends up saving the world with a time loop.
One of my favorite actors playing one of my favorite Marvel characters, It holds a special place in my heart because around the time it came out on Blu Ray, I had to have some (relatively minor) hand surgery. I watched this a lot while recovering. I’m also an amateur sleight of hand artist and my birthday… is February 2nd. Fun little connections to find. Glad you didn’t skip this, it’s good stuff.

Benedict Cumberbatch, who plays Dr. Strange, also did the voice and motion capture for Dormammu.

I also love the ending. Dr. Strange defeating a cosmic being (in his very first movie, especially) would have been silly and would have made him look way too overpowered, so we would struggle to take any threat after this seriously.
Instead, he wins by doing something unconventional and as you noted against his character at the start of the movie. The Steven Strange of the opening scene would have never done something this self-sacrificing.
Also, Thanos appeared before Guardians Vol. 1 in the MCU; he was briefly seen in the first Avengers.

FUN FACT: This is the first film to show the (now famous) MCU Opening Credits that all fans look forward to.

I think they weren't talking about Rhodey, they were talking about the guy in the suit that Hammer was trying to develop. He claimed that that pilot survived.

"That email doesn't start with 'I'm sorry. Just delete it." 😂 He is such an ass but I was surprised how much I liked this one, not being much of a MCU fan. It is a very trippy movie, and I actually laughed at the inclusion of Interstellar Overdrive by Pink Floyd during the crash scene. The original trippy meets modern film effects. Thanks for not skipping this one but I am also keen to see your Guardians 2 reaction.

The person we know as Rachel McAdams is a time traveler from the 31st century. Her real name is Margeret O'Leary, a bio-chemist on Venus Orbital Platform 9. Turns out the woman, Shae Yastrimski, that invents time travel will grow up a McAdams superfan and become a doctor because of this very film. Scientists in the future determined, after reading he published works, that they could find no record of a Rachel McAdams or the films she referred to often.
After finding a movie poster for the Notebook in an old photograph of Shae, they understood that their own scientist, Ms. O'Leary, was in fact a time traveler that will go back and make these movies just to inspire Ms. Yastrimski. Just a typical causal time loop, but it might explain why our 'Rachel McAdams' tends to take so many time traveler's love interest roles.....
Thanks for the reaction, that was fun!

5:55 "Seems like a dangerous speed."
Yeah, but he probably could've handled it if he had driven without distractions. This movie has a curious moral: "If you want cool, mystical powers, go recklessly speeding through the countryside without devoting all your attention to what you're doing. Things will come together in _just_ the right way." 🤷‍♂

Everyone in the universe is trying to kill us. Welcome to Marvel 616. That's why you only get a few Avengers movies and a few odd team ups. Everyone has their own business to attend to. Tony with technological menaces, Steve with more classical menaces like fascism, Nazis, anarchists (more like nihilists) same for Widow and Buck, Spider-Man threats to the neighborhood, the Guardians the galaxy of course, same for Captain Marvel. Thor the nine realms, the Hulk? He's interesting because he kinda doesn't fit into a neat box like the rest of them. His specialty I think usually is those people and beings that seek absolute power.

shadowcat, i like the song in the end credits, you skipped over it, it is by michael Giachino? playing some sort of harpsichord or organ , he did the music theme for the movie, the Batman from 2022 and also he directed the Marvel special halloween presentation, WereWolf By Night , that was on disney plus recently

shadowcat , besides the 1978 Dr Strange movie , there are other marvel movies before iron man, like
    Spiderman (1980)
    Howard the Duck (1986)
    Adventures in Babysitting (1987?)
    Fantastic Four (1994)
    Generation X (1995)
    Blade (1998)
Nick Fury : Agent of SHIELD (1998)
    X-men (2000)
    Spiderman (2002)
    HULK (2003)
    Daredevil (2003)
    X2 (2003)
    Spiderman 2 (2004)
    Punisher (2004)
    Fantastic Four (2005)
    Elektra (2005)
    Xmen the Last Stand (2006)
    Ghost Rider (2007)
Fantastic Four Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)
the Xmen films go on from here, up to the New Mutants, but Generation X (1995) would follow that movie time wise
and the Spiderman films go on from here up to Morbius or Venom 2, whichever is latest

Some of the TV stuff is absolutely worth watching, FWIW... (Both MCU and Netflix stuff, anyway... Agents of Shield/Peggy Carter are fun, but largely skippable for plot reasons). Some of which is recommended/necessary for some of the later movies. Would recommend catching up on Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and The Punisher before getting too far into Phase 4 (some of them are just legitimately really good, some will have payoffs when you get into the later phases).

Hey Shadowcat! I TOTALLY don't blame you for wanting to skip ahead to GotG Vol. 2, but this movie is still worth watching! Is it the best Marvel movie? Not by a long shot. But it's fun, and it's weird. And sometimes that's enough. :P
Steven Strange is an interesting character. He's basically a somewhat less-charismatic Tony Stark. He's still got the whole arrogant asshole thing in spades, but doesn't quite have the charm that Tony does. :P But one thing I do appreciate about him is that, as a doctor, he is committed to his oath to help people and to kill no one(Even if he does make exceptions for the REALLY bad guys occasionally, lol).
Also, I agree with you, immortality would be a curse. It might be cool for a while. Would I want to live for a few hundred years if I could? Maybe. But eventually I'd probably just be tired of it and want to die. If I could opt out at some point, sure, give me eternal life. :P
I must say, Mads Mikkelsen was kind of wasted in this movie. He is an incredible actor, and plays one HELL of a villain in general, but Marvel has already used him up as a C-list villain in the first Dr. Strange movie! He's basically the Raditz to Dr. Strange! (IDK if that reference will make sense to you, LOL) :P Just feels like so much wasted potential there.
It's good you watched this movie though! Dr. Strange is going to be pretty crucial to the Marvel universe going forward, so it's better that you know his deal when he shows up again!

Hi Shai!😊 I wasn't crazy about the Dr. Strange character at first. We already have an arrogant character in the MCU, Tony Stark. I think Stark is better at that type of character, with more of a likeability. But, the film as a whole is very well made with some very interesting CGI. Great reactions to your first Dr. Drange film, Shai!!!!🎬👏👏👏👏

    REACT SUGGESTION:
    (No Spoilers of course)
Having finished season 2, I would honestly, strongly suggest that you just go straight into season 2 of Loki.
One can watch both seasons back-to-back if reacting for the first time. It doesn’t “hurt” anything. “Loki” is unique. With this being the MCU’s first show to release a season 2, I now see that it should all be watched as “one thing” before moving to the next project.
I say this as an MCU fan, who believes in watching it in release order. This is an exception!
