  • Battery Operated Orchestra (BOO) have a nice collection of instruments, we had a glimpse when we shot an interview with them for the launch of their album "Yesterday, Tomorrow and You"
    Chris from the band kindly recorded this session to give us all a flavour of what it can sound like - which as it happens is pretty tasty.
    The Teisco 110F is a two oscillator instrument with lovely Low Pass resonant filter that keeps the low end with high resonance, a fixed filter bank and an interesting architecture.
    Its capable of some pretty tasty sounds, we think you'll agree.

    It's a good synth. The character is sort of a cross between roland and moog.
    1. The VCO's are discrete uA726-based.
    2. The VCF is a 24dB transistor ladder moog-style.
    3. The analog filter bank is actually useful and has lots of range.
    4. Like other old analogs the pots go bad and get scratchy and intermittent and it becomes a pain in the ass because they are obsolete - there is no modern compatible part for the slide pots. You have to open them up and clean & lube them and even then they may not last too long. Alternatively you would have to design an adapter board to install modern slide pots (the circuitry is on one board.. so there isn't a separate 'panel board' that could be redesigned or replaced). Don't forget this if looking to buy one.

    Dear Sonic State, please let the text sit for a while longer. When you edit, read it out loud like a voice over to see how long the text needs to be in view. Everything else you do is amazing.

    I've just added one of these to my arsenal, been looking for a long time. It's sitting nicely between my S60f and SX400, I finally have all three grey Teiscos!

    Severely underrated synth, with a bit of Korg 800dv flair (another underrated one), not only in its coloured sliders but in its original duophonic signal flow and multiple ossibilities: ring mod, criss-crossed stacked modulations between VCOs, LFO and envelopes...

    Electric guitars were banned for minors in Japan? Why?

    • @sonicstate
      @sonicstate  3 года назад +1

      In 1965, apparently..."Parents thought electric guitars were a symbol of delinquency. So, electric guitars were no longer allowed for minors".
      it led to a big drop in sales of electric guitars, and soon after, Teisco went bankrupt and were bought by Kawai

    Probably the best non digital synth I've heard.
    Most of the others kinda suck for me. Too expensive for what they do and such.
    Lot's of classic keyboards are really lame sounding compared to this.
