Love is only eternal if that love is recorded and continue to propagate throughout human history, like Romeo and Juliet, but who's to say humanity will live til the end of time and continue to tell your love story to other, human and nonhuman. You can say love is infinite, but eternal...nah. But then again, if you are speaking in terms of fairy tale, then don't mind this pessimist. JAJAJA

    Just in case: here are the dialogue choices you need to make to get Rachel to meet Sera without the bracelet:
    - you know my name
    - know about what?
    - I dont understand
    - she deserves to meet you
    - everyone is broken
    - I lost my father
    - rachel needs you
    - I thought my dad was perfect
    - dont you want to see her
    - dont leave
    - Tell Rachel Everything
    This is the only way to get it without Rachel's bracelet.

      @Kyizen 7 лет назад +6

      I chose to lie to her, so it made sense she wouldn't leave. But if you tell her the truth I don't see why she wouldn't leave with Chloe, it just doesn't make sense for her to stay when she was 100% decided on going.

    • @Woeismyhoe
      @Woeismyhoe 3 года назад +1

      @@Kyizen the only logical explanation is Chloe. Rachel’s been wanting leave even before meeting Chloe while Chloe was hesitant the entire time even though she always wanted to leave. The fandom nowadays believes that Rachel was going to leave with or without Chloe, but Rachel already left for a trip in 2011 and was assumed by Max to have taken a roadtrip with Frank, yet Rachel still came back. Why? Because she doesn’t want to leave WITHOUT Chloe.... and that ultimately got her killed :’(
      *edit: No matter which decision you choose in BtS, the truth eventually comes out because in LiS1 the Ambers aren’t even looking for Rachel anymore and Rachel lived in the Blackwell dorms so they had a fall out after the truth was revealed.

  • @Mr._Du
    @Mr._Du 7 лет назад +66

    Add me to the list of people who absolutely love this episode. It was a huge thematic triumph for a video game, I think, and the whole "truth versus lie" concept not only tied the entire episode together, but did so much to explain a lot of episodes 1 and 2. I feel like the ending truly has no correct choice. Once you think you know your decision, you think of a reason to doubt yourself. It's an impossible decision, but (and this is what makes it so good) it's an impossible decision real people really have to make every day, and that's heartbreaking.
    I feel like I fundamentally disagree with a lot of the people who say they dislike this one, and, in reading a lot of comments, I feel like we may have played a different game altogether. Maybe people were expecting something different, I dunno. But I feel like I got exactly what I was expecting, in many ways. It was never intended to link the two games together, which is why the devs set it three years before the original. I also didn't mind the absence of Rachel (if you can even call it that. She's on screen for pretty much half the episode, though people like to imply that she disappears completely once she's in the hospital). It's a game about Chloe, who we got to see grow as a character and tackle an impossible situation alone. Rachel is really there, however, the whole episode, because the entire thing is about acting for her sake. Whether she is there physically or not, the entire episode is *intimately about her.*
    I also feel like everything that "wasn't explained" didn't need to be explained. Some situations can be resolved by simple inference using info in the game, and overloading the story with explanatory elements would distract from the main story the game was telling. Like what happens to James since he tried to have Sera killed? Doesn't matter. He's the DA, he covers it up, I dunno. Imagine your own scenario. Since you can meet Sera at the end, she clearly didn't get a lethal dose from Damon before Frank showed up to step in. So did Chloe meet her, or was it a dream? The scene works in different ways and carries different meaning if you think of it as a dream versus thinking of it as real. I'm glad it's ambiguous.
    The same goes for Rachel's "powers". Would the game have been better if it had told you that she was a fire witch from a long line of fire witches who have long inhabited Arcadia Bay? Also Rachel *was* the storm, and Max is a Time Lord? And also, there are now a dozen separate canon timelines where all your favorite ships are alive and happy. No. Because all of that is stupid. The powers and the supernatural in Arcadia Bay function mainly as metaphors. Max's time powers reflected her timidity and inability to make choices. Rachel's link to fire reflects her thinly disguised anger and mania. You explain them, you ruin them.
    Blah, blah, blah. Differences in opinion and all that.
    tl;dr - I'm sad that not everyone loved this episode like I did, because it's hella amazing.

    • @tothnorbertstudio7993
      @tothnorbertstudio7993 7 лет назад +4

      pbnjpeg Dude! Reading your comment was such a relief for me! I completely and totally agree with you. And I'm not saying because I want people to agree with me or I only like to read what I think but because I feel like your way of seeing and understanding this masterpiece is really mature and highly intellectual. This game resonated with me so much and I'm glad that people like you are able to see it for what it is and really process what moral dilemmas it wanted you to think about. I'm so glad the devs kept the mystical elements on the periphery amd behind curtains. They are just there for analogies and metaphores as you said. Otherwise they would be just cheap attention baits. I don't think they left anything out that needed explaining. These stories can be so compelling becase they leave room for imagination and free interpretation. Everything has so much and sometimes different meaning and it leaves you wanting for more.
      To write an example the scene on the roadside where Chloe talks to his William the first time while awake pretty much startled me, especially because later she writes im her letter that it was the first time for that to happen while not sleeping. I thought that her symptoms having PTSD are starting to develop as she shows signs for that im the first game as well. Pretty sad if you ask me.
      I was surprised too that Eurogamer guys were so sure that James actions are so one-sidedly bad. I don't think it's that easy to understand what he's doing, Sara has all the valid points too at the table and it is absolutely polarizing what to do at the end. There is no good or bad or morally/ethically good choice I think, it depends what kind of world you want for Rachel.
      All in all, a great ending to a great whole season, the narrative was just genius, no surprise it generates these discussions...

    • @Mr._Du
      @Mr._Du 7 лет назад +3

      Thanks for the thoughtful response, man. I know there are plenty of people out there who are enjoying the episode as much as we did. We're just quieter, at the moment, than the people who were upset or let down by it, I think.
      I also really loved the final decision because of how much the game screws with you and creates cognitive dissonance regarding what choice you should make. For instance, Johnny and Aoife told William by the roadside that it was better to not know the truth about if he had lied. They didn't want to hear it. But then, only a few minutes later, when they were Chloe trying to decide whether to tell Rachel the truth or not, they were so strongly leaning the *exact opposite* direction. They didn't want to *hear* the truth, but when put into the position of someone who *knew* the truth, they felt they couldn't keep it a secret.
      I had the exact opposite thought process. I told William I would want to know the truth, but then when I was faced with telling the truth to Rachel, the only thing that convinced me to go through with it was the fact that I couldn't stand knowing that Chloe would be yet another person who had lied to Rachel. The desire to protect is strong.
      There really, truly is no right choice.

    • @tothnorbertstudio7993
      @tothnorbertstudio7993 7 лет назад +3

      Yeah right?! When I first played I found myself always in doubt and wondering what to do in the given situation, without thinking some time back what happened in conversations. Then when I replayed the episode I instantly noticed all the little details the writers put in the characters mouth in order for you to think from different sides about the final decision. For example when we're lying on Rachel's bed we're talking about the starts and at first Rachel is disenchanted because they're beautiful but ultimately fake. Then a few minutes later of talking with Chloe she changes his mind and says as long as we can see them they are THERE for us and they are indeed real to US. Just like her family if you keep the truth hidden. This conversation is already about the final choice so early in the episode!
      To get back more on the scene with William on the side of the road, it was the second most emotional moment for me. I actually stopped and thought about my family and my father, I put myself into that situation where Chloe imagined herself. What if I don't know something painful about my past or childhood? Would I want to know and be broken about it? Would I love my own father less because he didn't wanted to cause me pain? I felt no. I told William I wouldn't love him less if I found out he lyed about something hurtful. This decision felt personal to me. I think the line between truth and protective lie is so thin or even blurred that we can't really differentiate them. When William said that as a father the risk that your child would love you even just a little less because of something you did is so terrifying that he'd probably avoid it, he convinced me. I think after a point the truth becomes so terrible that it's maybe better to protect the other person's emotional integrity. If you feel it reached that point and you choose to lie it doesn't mean you don't love or respect the other, on the contrary, you love that person so deely that you're willing to carry the burden of the truth for your loved one, so she doesn't have to suffer from it. It can be a kind of self-sacrifice. It's not neccessarily the better choice but the other person can still trust you 100% because you would never let anything bad happen to her. At least this is one argument.
      Funny because I told William to tell me the truth, I won't love him less for it, but he couldn't, then at the end I didn't tell Rachel the truth. I think both ending decisions fit the story of the girls so well. I can imagine both outcomes and their continued life until the events of the original game.
      If you think about how their relationship continues, which you know from the first game, Rachel also lied to Chloe on many occasions in order to protect their relationship and Chloe's feelings. She had feelings for Frank and Jefferson too but she choose to not let Chloe know because she knew it would just break her heart, which in the end happened anyway...

    I've watched a few LP's of LiS and it seems strange to me that everyone is always so quick to forgive the fact that David is an abuser. Everyone forgets that David smacks Chloe around in ep. 1 if you don't take the blame, and the way she reacts it seems a lot like this was not the first time. Sure he might save Max and be sad the Chloe died, but that doesn't make up for _beating_ your stepchild when she talks back.

      Just like in this game, there's a way for Rachel to drug Victoria ACTIVELY (Rachel is out of the play bc you didn't take the blame but wants to be in it) and most people wouldn't notice because they took the blame but it would color whether you viewed her character as toxic / manipulative / dangerous or not.

    The thing I hate absolutely the most in relationships of any kind, is that dumb idea of "protecting" someone with a lie. No matter how hard and cruel the truth is, people MUST know it. Everyone deserve to know. Have to know. There is always a way to handle the truth, no matter how long it takes and how draining it is. No truth is so hard that a lie is a valid option.

    • @mochiisyum123
      @mochiisyum123 7 лет назад +5

      And overcoming those difficult truths is what makes you grow as a person and adapt. It's a nice idea wanting to protect someone you love and I liked the fact that William in that scene (aka her conscience) introduced the idea/question about loving someone the same or any less if they told a lie to protect you, which is out at its core out of love. And you have the other side of the coin where everyone has been lying and Rachel states "No more lies", it's a huge motif throughout BtS as a whole. And in LIS: "Everybody lies, no exceptions"

    • @DanaBanana94
      @DanaBanana94 7 лет назад +5

      Well, I mean, if someone says they don't want to know the truth, that's fine. Their decision.
      But here, Rachel wants to know. And she trusts only Chloe. How in the world would anyone in Chloe's shoes abuse that trust and lie to her? Especially when the "father in question" hired an assassin to murder another person ???

    • @faziradread

      (Dont look at my grammar, English is not my mother tongue.)
      He dont hired an assassin to murder Sera. He hired a psycho to shoot up her to making her addicted again, so no court would let her to her daugther.
      But I'm with you. Rachel deserves the truth. She'll find a way to handle it.

    In all honesty, Eliot sends a chill down my spine. Did you pick up on the implication that he stalked Chloe to the junk yard and that's why he knew to write the truck graffiti in his book of creepy poetry?

    I think this was a good ending to a fantastic game, it wasn't as good as EP2, but still good. I loved this series so much and it really has impacted me. That final cut scene, after showing them so happy together, crushed me too, that was a gut punch. I would have loved to have a BTS 2 with playable Rachel, but with those cut scenes, it'll probably never happen. I really will miss Chloe and Rachel in these games.

      If you take a wide enough perspective, what is considered a happy ending in a life or a relationship? We all die eventually and are limited to a certain amount of time of happiness in our life. Rachel and Chloe had about 3 amazing years together and then it all ended in tragedy... but that's what makes it so valuable and unique, because it ended. Such is life!

    That needed more kissing. Could we take out that final horrible reminder about the dark room and add more kissing please. Just more moments of Rachel and Chloe being adorable girlfriends.
    Still masses of questions needing to be angered but I'm glad you went the tell her route. In the end it would of been Chloe making the same choice everyone else had and Rachel not being given a choice in her own life. And what if she had found out you'd lied. She'd of felt totally betrayed.
    I like that they did the Elliot scene. It made me feel sick but I think it was kind of brave decide to show that what people brush off as harmless every time can actually turn terrifying and dangerous.
    So if Frank killed Daemon like he think, could that be a reason for him to act like his does in life is strange.
    So many questions! Genuinely sad that there's on the farewell episode left of these videos with Chloe. Enjoyed them so much, thank you both!

    If you guys play this again on your own time you should think about telling Mr. North to ask Drew about what's been going on. That was the choice I made in my game, and Chloe isn't passive aggressive at all. I thought she was actually very kind in that response. She's not just throwing Drew under the bus.

      @GiRayne I agree that they def should have cut the final scene and let them be happy + it feels like the women of this game never get to be happy + go through too much trauma, but I will say this game and its ending plays entirely differently if you picked Bae > Bay (and I didn't pick it for the ship...I actually thought through the implications of sacrificing the Bay character by character [I think my Ep 2 ending heavily influenced my choice along with not wanting to put Joyce through the loss of Chloe]). Literally if they'd been like "sacrifice Max" as an option, I love her but I would have picked Arcadia Bay. For me it was just like "Chloe deserves better than to die in a bathroom thinking everyone she loves abandoned her or died and that 'nobody would even miss her punk ass, would they?'" Before the storm just confirmed that decision for me (she acts hard & angry but she's soft as fuck). Plus, there's the "we fucked with time and there were consequences, what did we learn if we just go back and undo everything" + "max never asked for these powers, if chloe was actually meant to die it should have just happened the first time" arguments.

      Close, but it was more about destroying her legal credibility and thus torching Sera's court case by putting drugs in her system and thus undeniable evidence of drug use and her unfitness to be a parent/ have custody rights. James is a DA (law degree), he knows he doesn't have to murder her to get her gone, if not by her own will as actually ended up happening, then by that of the law/ legal system.

    Chloe Price must be the most stylish character in gaming. Her outfits are so well put together. Deck Nine have used her clothes to explain her character and show her story. Almost no other games bother doing that. We all express our personalities through what we wear and more developers should follow Deck Nine's example. The likes of say BioWare and Bethesda create fantastical universes but they're so sartorially drab. Would it be so hard for them to employ at least one fashion nerd.

    I don't understand the hate for Warren. Granted, in my playthrough, I didn't see him through Max's window, sort of spying on her. And yes, that is fairly creepy. In my playthrough, he just seemed like someone who was trying too hard and couldn't take a hint, but not in a scary way. And at the end, at the Vortex Club party, Warren seemed to get it and was totally willing to back off with no hard feelings. Eliot, by comparison... I found nothing redeeming about him. Even in the very first interaction, something felt off about him. First, he seemed overly clingy, then he seemed possessive, and then he seriously crossed the line. Between Warren and Eliot? Warren, every time.

    [Spoilerish warning]
    It seems like there's definite space left in the chronology for another 3 episodes before LIS.. I suppose we will find out how much is left to tie up after Farewell, but hopefully they'll allow for enough gaps to spend a bit more time either with a happy Chloe & Rachel, or to see them from a third person perspective with another playable character. I want them to have had a really good [period of time] before the inevitable happens, & don't think we got much meat on the bones of that in this epilogue.
    Thanks, as ever, for the Let's Play. You made most of the same decisions I would have, except that I jumped the gun on the gnome-tossing.

    Loved the playthrough again (barely finished the episode myself). Others have already covered some of the things you guys may have missed but I haven't seen anyone mention the conversation that the firefighters have in the hospital (you guys didn't listen to it). They talk about how the fire just stopped on its own and they've never seen anything like it. It seemed to coincide with when Rachel was stabbed. There's probably nothing there and it's probably just Deck Nine screwing with us with a MacGuffin but it's a throwaway piece of dialogue that adds to the mystery.

    @Eurogamer There is one thing you misunderstood about James motives: He didn't pay Damon to kill Sera, but to fix her up. Sera wanted to go to court for Rachel. After now she is not clean anymore, if she still tries to, James just could ask the judge to do a drug screening on her. Since she would be tested positive and her story seems to be too crazy to be true - the word of a Junkie is not trustworthy, the word of the DA is - James would figure that he would win the case. It is still messed up, though

    He’s planning to continue the game/story w/ his little brother. What kind of build do you think he would choose? Maybe since the first/last/only campaign he was in saw his character used as a blunt instrument (LITERALLY thrown “like a football”) at the problem/boss/*cough*DAMON, he might be focused on his weaknesses & missteps. After the dialogue w/ Chloe, do you think Drew might be considering a different approach? Maybe a more balanced/nuanced take on things?

    Oh, that engagement ring, I did not expect this! So great that you guys put the money into Joyce's purse. It was a blessed moment when I noticed she didn't sell it. You are the best :)

    Disappointing final episode. I had hoped for more Amberprice smooching and the pacing was all over the shop. Why was Rachel not involved at all for the second half of the whole episode? Why was it all about Sera and Damon Merrick instead of focusing on Rachel and Chloe's relationship? Why wasn't there any explanation as to Rachel's supposed Black Canary shouty powers at the end of episode 1? Are we supposed to believe the wind visual effects were just a coincidence?
    On the other hand, there was a lot I loved about this episode. The scene with Eliot in Mr Amber's office, the character development for David Madson and The Tempest dream sequence were all excellent.
    They fucked up that conversation between Chloe and Sera though. Chloe just woke up on the floor and Sera didn't help her or anything? That scene had eerie reverb and felt like a dream sequence which was so confusing. I only realised it was a real conversation by the time they finished talking. Felt so unusual.

      It's true, Rachels powers were left unexplained (I belive one of the developers actually said she had powers and that those were because of her mother also having powers) I really hoped for that to be explained, I don't know if it's just my stubbornness but I do not belive Rachel is dead (in Life is Strange) because in the 1st episode Chloe says Rachels parents are in denial, her dad being the D.A, and both her mothers loving her so much it's impossible that none looked for her, or Frank has he loved her so much (also her relationship with him also doesn't make sense in this game), the fact that only Chloe and Max actually cared enougth to go find her never made sense, to me at least, and hoped some kind of explanation for that too.
      Their relationship was left at the point of the kiss, I hoped at least for the final scenes to change through the way you played the game, or some indication something happend in the night they spent together.
      I didn't think that bad of Rachel being in the hospital because she was stabbed.
      Some other things I think needed more explanation at the end like Drew's father situation maby.
      But over all I like this game much more than the first one, Life is Strange (the first game) could have been much better if the ending was different (by that I meen more choices), the developers really threw away what could have been a really good game, I guess they though they had more money to spend on the game and in the end just had to figure something out quick.

      You made some fair points, its true life is strange, with the endings I guess you can take it that way but I keep my opinion.
      I did like the original, I just like this one more.
      But please tell me your opinion on the Rachel is not dead "theory" I have more to add. It's not just what wrote, I do have other points to it, and it's not like those other theories on youtube, those are just desperat tries to keep her alive, I just think there is an enormous plot whole there.

      V. Knoxville It's not exactly cheap fan service if we had more Rachel in scenes. Would you say the same about Max and Chloe? That was appropriately paced in LIS when they were without the other throughout the game. But to have the finale when the first two episodes focused a lot on building their friendship OR relationship was kind of odd conceptually for this last episode. Especially since Rachel was the one to develop and influence Chloe's character throughout the entirety of the prequel.
      Also it's been said that Rachel is the storm once she dies, which makes more sense now that we have an inclination about her supernatural moments like the wind and definitely the fire. How it suddenly extinguished itself once she got stabbed. I've read skme good theories that the storm was her after death wanting to get back at Arcadia Bay and getting Chloe to be with her which is why Chloe always died and the storm was present in every timeline.

      You should have never expected Rachels possible powers getting a focus. They implied it pretty heavily for the viewers, especially with the firefighters mentioning that the fire just suddenly went out without any actual help from them at the same time Rachel went to the hospital, but couldn't make it so obvious that Chloe would seem like an idiot for not knowing since it'd be weird if Chloe knew and didn't tell Max.

      yeah well the game is revolving around their relationship and the third episode felt rushed and left many things unexplained. Also: you could just meet the mother if you picked the bracelet. And your other choiced didn't matter. They didnt feel like important choices the ending was the same for everyone after all (with just little differences in the dialogue). Even though I love before the storm with all my heart I have to admit that episode 3 didn't feel as well written as the other episodes.

    These games are so good at making you dread the “right” choice and consider accepting the emotional burden that comes with choosing the “happy” ending.
    I couldn’t bring myself to lie to her either, but I’m glad that they were still happy for a while before Rachel got got.

    When you look at the e-mail from Sera to James Amber, the e-mail address that you comment on, ArcadiaoDA.or.us, the "or" is the abbreviation for Oregon and is how state government offices in the US are designated (note, though, that a real e-mail address would be .or.gov here, though, not .or.us). Just thought you would like to know. Also, a breezeway is usually an open storage space in a US home, having a roof but often no side walls, usually connecting a garage to the main house structure.

    All that crap they talked about people lying to Rachel and then they take forever to decide. It should of been their easiest decision.
