Thousands of Turkish people are under buildings waiting for help in freezing weather due to one of the biggest earthquakes; the Government left people to death; please; I’m begging share this with your followers. People are not dying due to earthquakes but dying because of not adequate help (and because of that, the government hides the number of deaths); they are still alive, screaming for help under buildings, their relatives hear their screams, but no rescuer is there to help them :( Anyone who Googles it and reads it 5 min can understand our desperation :(

Judith Curry was the first person I found on the internet when I went looking for contrarian scientists a few years ago. The reason I went looking for contrarian scientists was because my own little data set saw no impact of climate change. And I began to doubt the narrative and the so called science of climate change. Thanks Dr Curry!

    • @saticharlie
      @saticharlie Год назад +27

Since 2010, i begin to doubt because i discuss with people who had made their homework. Then i was sceptic about the fact that we were using «low emission» for «green». Finally, myy own research in official canadian papers showed me that canadian climate has never been seriously studied, that we have no idea (canadian paper's are based on IPCC prediction and not on factual proxy) AND i saw by myself that some data had been «corrected».
I work 50 km away from home. In 10 years, around the highway, i saw the land being massively changed, a lot of parking lot, shopping mail, even small city's, . SO no evaporation from trees (no more trees), no albedo and massive heat accumulation during the days. So on that 50 km alone, where the temperature use to be 2,3, or 4 colder than the the closest city (MTL), it is often the same. But you go 10 km north and it is STILL colder, as before.
My point, whit these fact alone, you have «warming», but is it cause by CO2, i doubt it. Albedo is much more plausible (green trees VS black higway...)
Guess what, where there is an official meteo station, that uses to be surround by forests, the is now a suburb...

Every decade or so, "Experts" would give the grift a new name. After several decades went by (I'm 50), and nothing really changed, I did a little digging. Humans Occupy roughly 5 percent of the earths surface. 5 PERCENT! They tell us that we produce to much co2. You know what needs co2 to grow? The Plants that provide us with oxygen. Guess what happens when there is no CO2?. They have convinced the masses, that the 5% of area that humans occupy on the Earths surface, can effect the earth's climate. LOL Humans have the same effect on the earth's climate, as a fart in a hurricane.

From June to September, we live in the dark. The winegrowers water the grape. Never seen. But water is rationed.

"If climate models are to be believed, reducing emissions will do little to improve the 21st century climate, with effects only occurring in the 22nd century and beyond."

Hurricanes are not greater in size or frequency than they were 100 years ago either. Regional changes in weather patterns do not constitute a global climate emergency. The climate is always changing. Always has. And where on earth did you read 0.3 C per decade. That is patently false. According to HADCRUT4 (the longest standing global temperature record) we have gone up about 0.7 C since the 1940s (the period where mass production and rapid industrialization began) and about 0.5 C the 70 years prior to that.
Saying that Judith Curry is out of her area of expertise along with your idiotic lack of knowledge of even basic climate related data clearly shows you don't a have clue what you are talking about. Curry is a Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the School of Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Georgia Institute of Technology and currently runs the Climate Forecast Applications Network, a climate-risk consulting company. You each make excellent points on what’s likely to happen and what isn’t, and to what degree we should be concerned about which scenarios. Speaking of Lomborg, I reckon you should invite him to do a four-way podcast between you two, him and Michael Shellenberger; you’d all make pertinent points on how people should see climate change the topic and what policymakers should do in which parts of the world and how. According to Brenda Cossman, a professor of law at the University of Toronto, Peterson is “fundamentally mischaracterizing” Bill C-16.
“I don’t know if he’s misunderstanding it, but he’s mischaracterizing it,” Cossman says.
(Brenda Cossman spoke to Torontoist about this, but you can find what else she’s said on the issue here.)
Cossman says it seems Peterson is trying to argue that the misuse of pronouns could constitute hate speech.
“I don’t think there’s any legal expert that would say that [this] would meet the threshold for hate speech in Canada,” she says.
Our courts have a very high threshold for what kind of comments actually constitutes hate speech, and the nature of speech would have to be much more extreme than simply pronoun misuse, according to Cossman.
“The misuse of pronouns is not equivalent to advocating genocide in any conceivable manner,” she continues. “If he advocated genocide against trans people, he would be in violation, but misusing pronouns is not what that provision of the code is about.”
Cossman, who has participated in a debate with Peterson, takes issue with the way he uses the language to describe what could happen if he was found in violation of the Ontario Human Rights Code.
“If he was found guilty by the Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, he would have been doing something illegal but not criminal,” Cossman says. In other words, he wouldn’t go to jail. Jail is only a punishment for committing a criminal offence-a violation of the Criminal Code.
If Peterson was found to be in violation of the code, there are different possible remedies. He could be ordered to pay money, he could be ordered to correct the behaviour, he could be ordered to go to training, etc.

I was unaware of Dr. Curry before watching this, but it's totally clear that she is a quality scientist that really knows her stuff. Here's something we should all remember: no one is perfect. No person, no group, no organization, etc. And the whole point of having a diversity of minds in a culture is so that when someone makes an error, someone else will point it out. If you start taking the attitude that pointing out a mistake or shortcoming is an act of evil, you're got an entirely wrong mind set going on.
Now, does that mean no one will ever try to use that as a tactic for trying to undermine others? No - it doesn't. There are all kinds of "bad players" in our culture on all sides of every issue. But, when someone does claim an error where there isn't one, someone ELSE will call that out. And so on - it's how the process is SUPPOSED to work.
And to circle back to the start - no one is perfect. And that includes those concerned about the climate.

Going against the vast majority view of climate scientists, she had suggested to newspapers that most of the recent global warming was not human-caused, and had hinted that IPCC scientists are motivated by "funding" even though they are not paid for their contributions.[24] "

What also deserves attention is the fact that her views changed drastically once she started to receive funding from the fossil fuel industry. It’s a very important fact, that Peterson surely just forgot to mention. Before that she agreed with the consensus mostly, that humans are the main cause for global warming and the dangerous threats resulting of that. But once her private company started to generate massive funding from fossil fuel companies, she all of a sudden threw away her former believes. Many of her claims nowadays have been exposed to be wrong, and for good reasons she doesn’t write scientific articles anymore that go through peer-review. Wonder why that is.
(By the way, all of Peterson’s last 3 so called experts on this topic receive fundings from the fossil fuel industry. People have to keep that in mind while listening to those people.) quite interesting how her views changed completely once she received massive amounts of money from such companies, isn’t it

It seems to me that the models are still incomplete thus not useful to predict future climate stable patterns that can validate any strict restrictive new law both for producers as well well as for consumers. Yet if we care about possible catastrophes caused by the oil industry we should demand goverments to stablished though norms, regulations and laws to prevent spills as well as to set VERY high fines if damage to ecosystems happen. In addition we, common people should take action by consuming less "commodities" which are not necessary, use less the car, eat less meat and raise less children - as the Swedes suggested years ago as a formula to reduce stress to our bioesphere.

"I never bought the Gore climate agenda" It isn't the "Gore climate agenda": American scientists have been warning the public about man-made global warming since 1957. LBJ was briefed on the threat of this in the mid-60's. Dr. Hansen briefed Congress on why this was a threat in the late 1980s. IN reality, there are 14 different climate models that have quite accurately predicted how much our emissions would warm the planet, and so of them are more than 20-40+ years. Also, man-made global warming is already causing hundreds of harmful effects for people and the planet, and things will just get worse and more and more expensive the longer we delay taking action to fix this. And we're not just talking about it being a little warmer: Rapid man-made global warming and ocean acidification, if kept up too long, causes ecosystems and the societies that depend on them to unravel. Take care.

@@chrsl3 In regard to the things they've said about the climate in the past, Lindzen in particular. One thing that the deniers, and I use that term advisedly, just cannot get past is the fact that the mainstream predictions for the emissions scenarios which have eventuated have been rather accurate. The deniers keep having to change their angles of attack. Curry is as disingenuous as the rest. She claims that the models can't explain the slight cooling trend from the 40's to the 70's, when the models show exactly that. The trend is so miniscule and within the error range that you can't even say it is real, but Curry pretends the models don't account for it when they do. She plays fast and loose with data, cherry picking away. When it's convenient El NIna and La Nina events are cited as factors but downplayed when not convenient. She makes dubious claim after claim as all deniers do. She has used the standard "warming stopped in XXXX" trope, which is an untruth and any climate scientist knows that using a year when a natural temp forcing is in significant effect as the start of your range is dishonest. If Peterson is really willing to live by the ethos of willingness to entertain error then he would give a platform to some of the vast majority of scientists who accept the "narrative" because the evidence overwhelmingly leads that way. What would be the use of the "consensus" taking fringe views into account when those views contradict the overwhelming body of evidence? The most glaringly obvious reason why self-styled "skeptics" and contrarians give credence to the fringe is that they find the majority conclusion unpalatable. Most of the usual suspects of climate contrarianism are know to have religious motivations, ideological/economic motivations or a love of notoriety and money.
TBH Peterson is becoming ever more arrogant and self-important, sternly lecturing society on things he knows nothing about. He should stick to psychology (without the Jungian cr*p) because he seems to have something useful to say there.

As she states herself, after her publication that coincided with the aftermath of Katrina, only then did she become aware of the complexity of fields touching hers and how she needs to be well versed in those fields in order to truly start to understand it.
The key now is to recognize that some are able to stay on course and many that are put in places of power are just there because of their ego and our own laziness. We put them there.
And being aware of that, you start to understand there is a necessity for checks and balances. Because there are so many more that are not easily shaken by outside influences. Or at least to the point where their world view shifts. Simply because they can recover from the pain of feeling judged and are able to let their need to understand prevail.
