There's a strong link between preparedness and ham radio. Food, communication, the ability to barter and trade, and self-defense are all critically important. If you're planning to expand the channel and focus more on some of these other areas as well, I say, bring it!

Good video Bob. I agree 💯!!! I want get my Ham radio license this year. I have a GMRS Radio licence. I got the GMRS Licence and want to get a Ham Licence because I think it's not a matter of if but when cell towers go down and we loose that way of communications. I listen to your channel and I'm subscribed because I'm trying to learn everything I can about Ham Radios.
I started out way back in the early seventies with a CB radio I joined the channel 9 react unit to help people here and there and now I got my gmrs license and I'm setting up a repeater system here in the small town of Wayne north of Idaho and hopefully I can help people here with through my repeater to communicate with each other so folks don't tell this man he's delusional he is spot on he's telling you the truth you need to watch your backs because we have been invaded from the southern border and there are sleeper cells here in the United States you need to be thankful of us people who have radios to communicate with each other because that's what's going to help you when a shtf happens in your neighborhood

Okay, channel exploration:... For prep and Ham, I haven't found much about D-Star simplex and it's use. Would be nice... no voice callsign ID needed because every transmission is displayed with your callsign (legal for FCC)... and digital simplex travels farther than FM simplex before dropping off. Maybe there is stuff to look at already about this? Haven't heard anything while RV'ing or camping out here in Arizona, so that's why I ask. Cheers! Pete in Arizona - KI7LIL
I’ve done a few DStar videos over the years but I’ll take this one on. One thing about a digital signal is when it hits the distance wall, it’s a brick wall. The signal will not trigger the receiver. Analog signals on the other hand can still be heard by the receiver simply by opening up the squelch.
@@K6UDA Yes, I've heard the same thing about signal performance differences between the two. One plus D-Star has is analog radios can't recieve digital transmissions... so it's sort of encrypted to them... if you want that. I have watched your videos in the past, enjoyed them, and that's why I keep coming back periodically for updates. Take care, and I'll be curious what's coming up.

Bob, thanks for this video. I need your advice on ham equipment for EMCOMM. I've had a general license a couple of years ago with a close friend who has moved away; afterwards I sold my Kenmore H/T and mobile. My buddy was my technical mentor. What radios and accessories would you advise for a nontechnical guy like me?
+@scottromans3708 go buy a couple of baofeng UV5r on amazon or a set of GMRS HTs. Play with them and learn how to program some local repeaters in them. Then decide if you want to study up and get your ham license or simply pay up and use the GMRS radios. BTW, Kenmore never made radios. They made killer washing machines though.
Toys cost money. Rather spend that toy money on preps.
