Yes good for straight hair too. It will give more of a flipped out feel. You may need to texture it a bit more to soften the disconnect. It will work great for round brushed volume style on strait hair
1-3 yes it will enhance volume and movement . The sides and back will collapse In and be flippy , the top will have more lift and volume. On pattern 4 be less aggressive with the texturing . Maybe gently Channel cut instead of soft sheer

When I do a straight out layers I make it shorter at the crown then do short to long from that guide.
