  • My unofficial trailer of "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford", based on the Red Dead Redemption 2: Official Trailer #3.
Brad Pitt's personal favorite role, and one of Casey Affleck's best performances. It may not be everyone's cup of tea. The film is considered slow, has long dialogues, and few action scenes. However, it's beautifully shot, nice soundtrack, great acting, and ranks among the best modern Westerns.
1881, Robert Ford, who's idolized Jesse James since childhood, tries hard to join the reforming gang of the Missouri outlaw, but gradually becomes resentful of the bandit leader.

Brad Pitts best film in my opinion. I can't believe it failed at the box office. I've seen it easily 10 times and will watch it again!! Top notch film on Jesse James and the COWARD Robert Ford. The best!!!

t's like some lost 70s revisionist Western, the little brother of McCabe & Mrs Miller perhaps. It's almost amazing how Dominik got away with making such a slow and moody film. Probably he wouldn't have without Brad Pitt in the lead role. Who's good, but the film still belongs to Casey Affleck. And is it the most beautiful, most Terrence Malicky Western ever made? Roger Deakins' cinematography is some kind of wonder. Possibly the film drags a tiny bit in the middle, but then it gets even more interesting after the death of Jesse James, when we follow Robert Ford who has to live with the conscience and regret of his act. It's one of the few films where a narrative voice actually works. And I like how muted the gunshots are, sounding almost as sad as the sound effects in a Chris Ware comic.

Until I watched TAoJJ I could never quite put my finger on what film (or type of film) had specifically inspired RDR2. But once I had finally got around to watching it then it became so obvious. From the blatant such as the train robbery scene and narrated, slow-motion transitions to the more subtle tonal and musical inspirations. Not to mention that both are more so historical period fiction than they are traditional "westerns". It's a film that must be seen if you like RDR2 in any major way (directed to anyone who reads this that has not).

Hardly a coward. Yes he was shot from behind but Jesse James was a horrible killer. By killing James, he may have saved lives.

Still you don't shoot someone in the back. That's a cowards move! If he had shot him say, maybe between his eyes Robert Ford's life would have had a different outcome. Neither one of them were right! You are not supposed to murder anyone. Robert Ford was a murderer and bank and train robber too! He was in the James Gang. He didn't deserve one bit of credit for anything! He looked for fame only. Not too bright!!

@@MelMel-hu2ui People tend to forget that Jesse shot people in the back, like Ed. He was a veteran and experienced shooter and still did it. Bob wasn't a criminal nor a shooter.
