Didn't know this! I don't have a jog wheel keyboard. So I am conquering like you. Thanks so much Jason!
WHAT?!?! WOW!!
I did not know this - always love a quick tip Tuesday 😁
Amazing as always, Jason 😁
It’s one of those things that’s always there but I never think to use it. 😜
I have the Speed editor seldem use it (Don't do the CUT pg) Other devices I've owened had two parts to the Jog wheel. An outer Spring loaded Ring with the Jog wheel o the inside. moving the Ring Counter clockwise moved the play head lft Backwards Clock wise Forward but as apposed to the Center wheel the farther Counter Clockwise/Clock wise the faster you moved foward or back. It was Veriable speed both ways. Rough movements with outer ring and fine adjustment of the play head was with the wheel. the old outer ring/inner jog is much better. But my Speed Editor was FREE with $295 for Studio. Now it will cost $395 for Studio & Speed Editor.
Interesting about the 2 ring jog wheel. The Fairlight Console i just tried out had a jog wheel, just a single thought. It worked good from the bit that I used it.
I have the Speed Editor and absolutely LOVE it. Admittedly, I do not use all of its capabilities, but that jog wheel (three modes!) is totally awesome!🙂
Nice!
♥ Have the Speed editor, bought it for the Jog Wheel, (I know, it's a bit pricey just for a jog wheel, right?) Weel, actually bought it for that, AND, the Studio upgrade which saved like $300 I think it was, so it was a 2 birds with one stone purchase. Now 6+ months in, OMG! So glad I made the purchase. The Jog wheel helps speed up and refine timeline workflows more than I expected in not only the Cut page, but the Edit page, Fairlight, Color page, Fusion page, etc. Then there is the split/blade button, ripple delete, transition insert tool, large IN and OUT buttons, use those ALL the time! THEN... throw in the multicam capabilities!?!?! ZOMG! My wife speaks at entrepreneurs events all over North and central America, we record her multi day events typically with 3 cameras and a screen recording of her PowerPoint slide deck. Taking all 4 cameras, (will take copy of 1 or two of the other cameras set at a greater zoom level creates an extra camera angle at the higher zoom/close up, or 2 all with different angles zooms without having to manually "zoom" within the edit at each time I want to, just press one button for that camera that is the zoomed in cam, WALA!), and utilizing Davinci Resolves AMAZING Multicam workflow WITH the Speed editor!?!?! 🔥That alone makes the purchase the of the speed editor TOTALLY worth it! As the video plays in the timeline on the Edit page just hit the camera you want to switch to, BOOM! no need to pause to switch, it does it real time while playing the video! Touch the Trans button immediately after and BOOM, your favorite default transition was just added to that cam switch if you want it!
What about Davinci on the iPad?! Guess what, the Speed editor works on it as well and the iPad has a 95% of ALL the desktop Davinci functionality, (ALL the pages are available, they are hidden, but fully available), and the speed editor works with that! I use my iPad while at her events for quick editing while at the event or on the flight back home! The ONLY down side to the speed editor is when it comes to syncing back and forth between the iPAd and desktop. A little clunky. Actually ready to the pull the trigger on a second speed editor just for the iPad to eliminate that problem. Once synced with a machine, the Speed editor just turns on works, no fuss no muss! 🔥The Speed Editor is THAT useful once engrained in your workflow.
Nice, sounds like it's working out awesome! You should get an ATEM to use with all those cameras for events. You can get one that will record every input (computer screen too) and give you a fully cut file that you can make a multicam clips, plus full res originals ready to go in an already created DaVinci Resolve file. 😜 I've been using and HD8 ISO for the last 2 months, the thing is awasome.
Been wanting to get and Atem Mini for exactly that. Your input is helping raise that priority, thank you.. @@JasonYadlovski
Would be awesome if the jog wheel icon could be mapped to the mouse wheel; use a SHIFT + Mouse Wheel.
That would be cool. I haven't been able to find a shortcut for it yet.
Thanks for this video. It seems that the jog wheel is quite sensitive; a small jog moves the play head a lot. I wonder if there's a sensitivity adjustment for allowing finer moves.
I’m not sure if there is a finer adjustment.
You can also hover over it and use the mouse wheel to change frames. I do that all the time.
Thanks for the awesome tip on the jog wheel😀! I didn't know there was a Davinci Resolve keyboard... It looks like it would definatly speed things up!
You’re welcome, thank you for watching! The resolve keyboard does look pretty cool, I haven’t tried it yet though.
Is there prhaps a button you can hold to activate the jog wheel, or do you have to be over the symbol? Whould be a nice feature if you could activate it with a button on the keyboard to activate it
Jason thank you for the quick tips they help.
One day i would love to get the full keyboard i think it would help a ton aswell
You’re welcome! I saw the keyboard once, it was bigger than I expected and heaved too.
@JasonYadlovski I haven't got to see it in person yet. Eaither keyboard would be nice I just think as a beginner that uses most of the shortcuts as is the regular keyboard would be a nice addition.... so would studio at some point lol.
Thanks again and thanks for responding.
It's even on the iPad version............still working out why I would need it though.
Interesting. I haven't tried the iPad version. My iPad is too old. 😜
@@JasonYadlovski Yes it even works on the edit page if you open it. I am still not too sure why I would want it though as it seems to be doubling up on the keyboard and timeline scrolling. Maybe I am missing something.
Tourbox neo, small, infinitely customizable. Great little product!
Nice! I’ve heard of it, had the chance to test it out but I didn’t think it was something I’d use or the audience would be interested in.
There’s no difference between using the jog wheel as you just showed us or the Timeline indicator, as I like to call it. Matter fact the timeline indicator is even faster and more accurate.
But now you know what that button is that you never paid any attention to. 😁
Would be really useful to know if there's a keyboard shortcut for the jog wheel. Any ideas? Thanks!
There might be, but I haven't been able to find it yet. 😜
nice. just use e to speed the time line up. :) cheers
Wow,I didn't know it existed!🤔
got the speed editor . Love it ! also because studio version came free with it. mostly use it on the cut page. that wheel is awesome . and the keys have multiple fuctions.
Hi, to me, it is useless. But I have a question: How can I zoom in on the preview panel like Premier Pro? I want to mark my In and Out precisely, but when you have a long video clip, you cannot use the mouse and move it around. you have to just use arrows. Is there any way to zoom in?
I have the Speed Editor
I have the editor keyboard- I love it as as an editing aid..esp with the jog wheel. Makes editing so efficient if all you do on your computer is edit..so used to it.but man,,Its absolutely horrible to type with..
Interesting that it’s no good for typing. Sounds like it makes it tough to go from emails or typing docs to editing. Something to keep in mind for sure.
I have had the keyboard for a year or so. I am working with digitized 8mm video and it is fantastic for removing bad frames between shots - in fact I don't know how I would work without it. All the extra function buttons are great as well. As for typing text etc. I have given up and keep my regular keyboard next to the Black Magic one. I have been unable to use the keys for changing the brightness and volume even when following the BM instructions so having the regular keyboard fixes that problem. The typing issue is due to the squishy action and hitting the up arrow key on the right side instead of the shift key. (The regular right shift key is split into two keys.)
@@davidnoble1485 yup I did the same , I have a regular typing keyboard on a keyboard tray under my desk.
Speed Editor user here Jason.
Awesome bit of kit especially if you use the source tape in resolve.
I bought it because I was going to buy the Studio version of resolve and it wasn't much more money than just the licence on it's own. 😉
Nice, thanks for sharing!
Thanks for this tip❗ That built-in is so easy to use- and no keyboard shortcuts to remember. I do have a jog-knob on my ASUS ProArt Studiobook 16 just below the keyboard and slightly left of the touchpad. Rotate it to choose the target, then jog it to apply it. I suppose you could get good/fast with it over time but it is not as easy as the Resolve built-in jog tool, especially since my hand is always on a mouse. This is an excellent Tuesday Tip, thanks.
I’m selling my speed editor FR. Don’t need it now haha
Haha! Keep it if it was "free" with a studio license. 😜
@@JasonYadlovski it was $100 with a studio license but I mean … it’s faster to edit with “trim-to-end” commands than the editor itself 😂 but buying it did force me to stick with switching to resolve! It’s just most useful in the cut tab which I never really use anyway 🤷♂️ oh well!
Got ya. 😜👍 I’m never in the cut tab either. Love me the edit tab. 😁
Unrelated. Jason, forgive me but I couldn't see a place on your home page to send you a question, so here it is. I put a rode ntg on my a74 and a dji2 lav on me, and one on my wife in the other room. I started recording in my office, then walked through the house to where my wife was talking on the phone. I dumped it in Davinci and hit "Sync audio and append to clip" and her audio was not recognized. When I started recording in the same room as her (where all 3 mic's were present.) it synced just fine. Is there something I'm doing wrong or is that the way it is supposed to work?
Hi! From what you described, I think you might just need a better sync point like a loud clap in the beginning or something. You can sync it manually in the Media tab, here's a video on how to do that: ruclips.net/video/o_YsfqEkaKQ/видео.html Let me know if that works. The other option is to just sync it in the timeline. Even if you have to do it manually, it should be pretty quick if it's just one clip.
Awesome!
Thanks!
Ive had the keyboard for about 2 years now and the jog wheel is my favorite feature. Real handy for finding an exact point or going back and forth over a section to closely inspect what’s going on. I have no regrets buying the keyboard.
Nice! The keyboard looks great.
So, why don't you simply click and drag on the playhead??
By the way, even when I found the audio match and put it on the timeline next to the shotgun recording, it wouldn't sync. I don't get it.
Which method were you using to sync in the timeline? Sometimes Resolve has trouble if there aren't good sync points.....🤔
🆒
Thanks!
Hi I just up dated my resolve to the latest update and now it keeps crashing every time I try to anything from scrolling through my time line to adding something to my time line or just looking around it. Please help
Hey! That’s interesting, I wonder if something got messed up with the install. I would try installing it again and see if that helps. Also try a few different projects just to see if it’s any different.
Thank you for the reply, I have not yet retried an instal but it happens on all projects
